Boat shoes - yay or nay?

Boat shoes

Saw these and really liked them. Thought they’d be a good alternative to the white trainer trend (which I’ve not totally got onboard with).

What do people think?

Can't believe Crew are still flogging stuff like this that looked dated 20 years ago. Clothes for Kate Middleton during the St Andrews years, fine but in 2022??

You are lagging behind I'm afraid. They've been creeping back since about 2019 since Prada did them again

God these take me back, not seen boat shoes for years!

I wear tan leather ones a lot as a kind of seasonal cross over shoe. I do live in Cowes and am regularly on and around boats though so am not out of place 😂

I can't stand deck shoes. All the collars up rugby boys and hockey girls in 90s Dublin wore these, so for me they're permanently bleurgh.

Boat shoes are great casual shoes, easy to wear and look good with most things. Buy them!!

I like them, and I often wear Timberland boat shoes with shorts in summer. I’m the last person you would ever want to take fashion advice from, though.

I don't mind a boat shoe but prefer the ones that look like 'kit' as opposed to a 'fashion' version of the original

White turned up jeans, tan or navy deck shoes and a navy T-shirt with maybe a Ralph Lauren style blazer over is a very stereotypical look but it's a preppy look and whilst not fashionable I quite like it.

Those two tone bangers though ... no.

Where I am from these are called 'Dubes', short for Dubarry, the maker of choice for all the trendy young 'uns back in the day. In fact, I think plenty of Rock Boys still wear them??

Yeah, but they’re a Ross O’Carroll Kelly joke these days!

I live near a sailing town and all the rich, yachties wear boat shoes so they will not be going anywhere near my tootsies as they fit a bit of a stereotype here.

They are a wardrobe staple in Devon and Cornwall

Not my style op so a no from me, BUT if you like em..
I suppose they just scream middle aged and matronly and why not add a jaunty scarf to match. Good thing we are all different…

That’s what I was wondering. I’ve seen them everywhere this year.

Moshalu and Crew Clothing are not really places that people who are into fashion would shop at.

I love boat shoes especially Timberlands, I get seasick on a wet pavement but I love the look.
Ignore the doom mongers, if you like them go for it!

I'm not a massive boat shoe fan but also have the timberlands, they are a lovely light tan and really comfortable.

Do those saying they aren't in fashion why do so many shops sell them .

Not all shops sell high fashion. Some sell classics. Boat/deck shoes are preppy and there are always people looking for preppy.

These look a bit more sleek, with a less clunky sole, imo.

i couldn't get on board with the white trainer look either OP

Report
midsomermurderess · 14/05/2022 19:49

If preppy is the look you want, go for them. If nothing else, it’s different to the endless parade of white trainers. There is a great deal of uniformity on this site.

happygolurkey · 14/05/2022 19:49

absolutely love them. Used to have a dark blue pair that Flit Flop did and looked on their site recently to find they no longer do them.
I especially like those lilac ones
