Sandals to walk in all day

60 replies

AssignedBlobbyAtBirth · 14/05/2022 09:31

I am going away and need something that looks good as is comfortable. When I say look good my usual style would be something chunky like a doc sandal
I walk around 10-20,000 steps in a day and I'm not finding docs comfortable. The straps start to rub. I have fairly wide feet and ideally need an arch support
I was wondering if fit flop or skechers might fit the bill. Some of the Croc sandals look good too. I have limited funds and it's frustrating when they start out comfortable but can't last the day

Team Merrell sandals here. I have a pair similar to those posted above and have walked miles in them without any problems.

mnahmnah · 14/05/2022 21:00

Hotter and Merrell both look like what my mum would wear!

I’m eyeing up a few from Heavenly Feet. Great reviews.

WobblyLondoner · 14/05/2022 21:50

@mnahmnah Thanks for that suggestion - I'd not heard of them before. But there aren't any reviews for any of the sandals I looked at which always makes me nervous...

mnahmnah · 14/05/2022 21:52

@WobblyLondoner

I’ve been looking at them on Next and Amazon and the reviews on there

I’ve recently bought some Merrell walking sandals. I’ve not worn them for any huge length of time but they’ve certainly been comfy and in the grand scheme of “ugly” sandals I think they’re actually not bad looking!

They are lovely…am going to order a pair now 😊

WobblyLondoner · 14/05/2022 21:53

@mnahmnah Ah, thanks!

mnahmnah · 14/05/2022 21:55

@WobblyLondoner

ebay has them cheaper once you find a pair you like!

EeeByeGummieBear · 14/05/2022 21:58

I've got some el naturalista sandals- not cheap, not to everyone's style, but very comfy:

Merrell

Teva's are really comfortable and apparently hugely fashionable this year. I have noticed lots of people wearing them in recent weeks and also a few fashion accounts I follow on Instagram.

usernotfound0000 · 14/05/2022 22:14

Not at all stylish but proper walking sandals are the way to go. I've just done 5 days at Disney, walking 25k steps a day and not so much as a blister.

cloudylemonade13 · 14/05/2022 22:25

Agree about el naturalista, haven't tried sandals but their heeled shoes are really comfy.

Birkenstock sandals are bliss to wear and I can walk all day in them.

Gardeningfool · 14/05/2022 22:36

I've got the classic black Teva www.office.co.uk/view/product/office_catalog/2,60/3493800000 and they're v. comfortable. I also saw them in Arket earlier today, so obviously seen as being a bit stylish. I've also now realised they come in rainbow colours, and am v. tempted to buy as well!

lljkk · 14/05/2022 22:45

My (beloved) Merrells have been called Fugly on MN, don't think OP wants Fugly.

I would like OP to post pics of what look she's after.

eurochick · 14/05/2022 22:49

All sandals shred my feet but I have a pair of Air and Grace that are amazing.

I can only wear fit flop sandals as I have plantar fasciitis and they are brilliant.

I really recommend this stretch for PF- stand on the bottom stair with the balls of your feet. Let your body weight drop your heels below the level of your toes. No bouncing. Just stay there for a couple of minutes. 3 or 4 times a day. Really helps. 😊

Yes I knew they must be in fashion when I went on ASOS and they had 55 pairs to choose from! I normally buy direct from Teva but got my newest pair off ASOS when they had 20%.

Lovemusic33 · 15/05/2022 09:11

I have just bought some Keen sandals, I am slightly worried I will look like my mother wearing them, they look comfortable but not that stylish 😬, I walk a lot and my walking boots are just too warm for summer walking.

WobblyLondoner · 19/05/2022 22:09

Thanks to this thread I just got these Merrells. Am pretty pleased / I think they look ok and they are super comfy. Haven't walked any distance yet though ...

wondabar · 20/05/2022 03:05

I'm not sure if they still do them but I got a pair of Merriell Terran Cross sandals a few years ago. They looked beautiful and I loved them until I had the worst accident ever due to their unevenness. I know it could happen in any shoe but after three years of a huge metal plate and nine screws inside my foot, I will never purchase a Merrell sandal again due to my experience with them and their aftercare of when I told them about the potential flaw.

WhereAreWeNow · 20/05/2022 09:33

Fitflop for me. Not the toe post styles. I prefer the strappier styles like Gracie.

Notagoodnight · 20/05/2022 09:38

Vionics. Proper supportive/walking sandals that do no look like proper walking sandals.

I love my crocs flip flops and can do miles and miles in them. I actually find them very supportive. Crocs sandals with backs tend to be super comfortable and practical initially then suddenly start destroying your heels for no good reason with no notice.

Are you pleased with the fit? They look a size too big to me 🙂

Serenity45 · 20/05/2022 10:50

Another Birkenstock fan here - walked about 16km around London in a day in mine last weekend with no problem. I've got about 20 pairs in different colours 😁

Though for country walks / hiking I'd usually wear 'proper' trail shoes / hiking boots depending on the conditions.

Movinghouseatlast · 20/05/2022 10:51

You can walk for miles in fit flops and I have! They are wonderful.
