Would you have a face lift?

I think I've always been open to the idea of a face lift - am 48 now and think I might be wrinkly enough in a couple of years.

I'm not into fillers or Botox but have always used a good face cream with sun block and wear a cap in summer.

Does anyone else vaguely entertain the idea of getting a face lift when the time is right, or is it something I should be ruling out now and learning to love my crinkles and wrinkles?

I think what Wags and Claws did was great though. If you have a specific problem eg loose skin caused by weight loss, then it's very different. Or boob reduction type ops work well. I just think general anti- aging stuff doesn't work.

How can the exact same procedure look good on Wags (which it does, she's beautiful!) because it's for weight loss, but not on someone who has it done for aging? In both cases it's addressing the same problem. The motivation of the woman doesn't dictate the results, its the skill and aesthetic judgment of the surgeon. If you saw Wags in the street you wouldn't know, and there's millions of other women with lovely undetectable work. People just judge by the poor noticeable work.

I'm in my 50s and my approach to ageing is to be the best looking 50 year old i can be! I look after myself, wear make up everyday, good skincare etc
I dress however I want and certainly don't pay attention to any 'rules'
I dye my hair and absolutely love dressing up everyday, I decided many years ago never to save anything for best!
I'm very slim and know that is a bonus at my age.

The people who I know who have had work, don't look any younger, they just look like they have meddled with their faces!
Having fillers or surgery doesn't necessarily make you look any younger, particularly if the person has an ageing hairstyle etc
I think your hairstyle, skincare and clothes make way more of a difference!

CharSiu · 14/05/2022 08:47

No I wouldn’t but for someone such as the poster above who had a huge weight loss well I can see why it’s an issue and why she went ahead, an amazing result @Wagsandclaws. Most people won’t ever gain and lose that much weight in their lifetime and that is very different from tackling just the little droop and natural softening as we age of a jawline.

You said your childhood was abusive, I did a long term project with women who had MH issues of a severe nature and who had abusive childhoods at the extreme end of the scale. They had tipped over in to really dreadful adult lives with addiction issues and violent partners often featuring. So I most certainly don’t underestimate just how damaging a bad childhood can be.

I would look to any positives in your current life, however small and focus on them. Have you ever had therapy at all?

Subbaxeo · 14/05/2022 08:50

No. I’d never voluntarily put myself in a hospital unless it was absolutely necessary. Pain and recovery time so one can pretend they’re not the age they are? Although I’m lucky at 60 not to have sagging face-I out it down to prominent cheekbones and big nose-all the features I hated when I was younger!

whatisthisinhere · 14/05/2022 08:51

No
I'm 54, and quite happy with how I look.
But I won't judge anyone who wants to have one. Plus I am a little afraid of surgery tbh

genie10 · 14/05/2022 08:54

@Wagsandclaws you look great and were wise to opt for local anaesthetic. A full facelift can bmean around 7hours under anaesthetic , in itself a health risk.

rumred · 14/05/2022 08:55

As @Floisme said. I'm disappointed that I'm aging but it's natural and I concentrate instead on the good stuff. Looks don't last, with or without surgery. Integrity, humour and fun matter more. Its social pressure we all face not to age, I'm not surprised people /women feel they have to alter their looks to be acceptable

Aboutdamntime · 14/05/2022 08:56

No it’s never entered my head and I’m in my 50s. I don’t know any real life person who has had one either.

5128gap · 13/05/2022 11:13

I think I will. I'm 52 and in really good shape. Good hair and figure, still petite and youthful hourglass, and I feel my face is getting a little incongruous to the rest of me. I have some light botox and fillers and have had threads, but have got to the point of thinking it would be more cost effective to go for the proper lift rather than fiddling about with tweakments. It's only really my lower face that bothers me, so maybe a mini life.

I could have written this post myself ( except I'm a year older, at 53)
Feel exactly the same and funnily enough, I contacted a clinic a couple of weeks ago and sent over some photos for their surgeons to peruse.
Nobody has got back to me yet 🤔

PandoraP · 14/05/2022 09:01

I am 50. I have botox and have had some fillers to address sagging which has been amasing. I would have a face lift in a few years, but I am too scared. Can totally see why people would and I think it can look amasing when done well. @Wagsandclaws , you look beautiful.

High, prominent cheekbones will often act as scaffolding and you're less likely to ever 'need' a facelift.

Soffit · 14/05/2022 09:11

I probably would. I don't know when or where and I have excellent skin right now. I would not have awful botox and fillers which are always so low budget looking and obvious (unless you use Kate Middleton's surgeon and even she has had a combination of surgical/non surgical with scar tattoos to achieve it).

KalaniM · 14/05/2022 09:15

I would! I’ve been looking into it recently. I think for me it comes down to the neck and jaw line, mainly, so I’d want probably what Wags had. I’ve decided to do a course of clear lift laser treatment, which will remove sun damage and fine lines and tighten skin a bit. I’ll do that this year, then see how I feel. I probably actually need the number of Wags surgeon, sounds ideal, if very expensive…
I’d like to maintain a relaxed relationship with the mirror as I turn into a Senior. I’ll still have varifocals and grey pube like hair to deal with, it’s enough already!

Razbitso · 14/05/2022 09:20

Nah. Stood looking out at the world I feel exactly the same whether I am wrinkly or not. I am not a girl anymore, that phase is gone and that’s fine. If I start to worry I have been looking inwards good much so need to readjust my perspective not my face.

Wagsandclaws · 14/05/2022 09:46

@genie10 thanks 😊 yes you are right there is no way I'd have had it done if under a general as I feel that if I'm going to have a general and all the associated risks that it's got to be for something 'serious' iyswim?

Again I'm not knocking anyone that does though it's a purely personal thing for me as I'm quite scared of GA's.

@Justleaveitblankthen happy to pass on my surgeon's details, they are a clinic in kent so I don't know if that's too far for you? I live in Somerset so stayed nearby the night before due to M25 traffic issues but got home the next day in just under 3 hours post op. He's brilliant and would never suggest anything that wasn't needed. I don't think he's the cheapest but there are loads and loads of examples of his work online which is why I went with him ( he does about 7 facelifts a week lower and full as well as other procedures ). The clinic is lovely and nothing like a hospital although they do have two theatres and bedrooms for overnight stays that have required GA's.

@PandoraP thank you, if you feel it's for you then I wouldn't hesitate. I was scared too but I was amazed at how easy it was and the recovery was really fast at home.

@Soffit Botox and fillers are only 'low rent' if done badly, I'm not saying you can't tell they've been done because often you can but don't correctly they can look really good. I have had no surgical work done to my upper face at all and I'm pretty happy with the ( qualified ) Dr that does mine.

I too have excellent skin ( mostly due to dermatica retinol ) but I wanted to sort out the 'scaffolding' as it were and the surgery and Botox and fillers have done this.

Wagsandclaws · 14/05/2022 09:47

@KalaniM happy to pass on surgeons details if you ever need them Smile

krill · 14/05/2022 09:53

Wags and claws, in my inexpert opinion, looks like an example of a good lower facelift. Though you look younger than I'd expect for such a procedure, but you say you've had it after significant weight loss so that makes sense

LondonQueen · 14/05/2022 09:57

I will in the future, I'm only in my 20s so not really a concern, but I want to look my best for as long as possible.

Wagsandclaws · 14/05/2022 11:43

@krill I'm 50 so I'd say at the beginning of the usual decade to start to explore those options.

Thank you I think he's done an excellent job but there were plenty of ladies to look at that he's done previously so I knew I was in safe hands.

TrufflesForBreakfast · 14/05/2022 11:49

No I don't think I would although I'd consider a lower face thread lift. I have good cheekbones so I don't think I need it for my upper face but I do have a bit of a baggy jawline. I'm only 46 so maybe in five years time.

KalaniM · 14/05/2022 12:18

Wagsandclaws · 14/05/2022 09:47

Thank you! I could easily get to Kent!

krill · 14/05/2022 12:20

I'd have guessed mid 40s! @Wagsandclaws

Blossomtoes · 14/05/2022 13:08

Weird as this may sound, I’m too vain to entertain the idea. I really like my face, always have and the thought of anything spoiling it horrifies me. Having seen the results of tweakments and surgery on other people, I’m sticking with what God gave me.

LKsGrowler · 15/05/2022 10:34

Doesn't sound weird at all Blossomtoes- I agree.

ArabeI · 15/05/2022 10:49

That would be the worry for me (also vain). That something major like a facelift might go wrong, or look slightly odd. I've seen a couple of badly done facelifts.
