Would you have a face lift?

I think I've always been open to the idea of a face lift - am 48 now and think I might be wrinkly enough in a couple of years.

I'm not into fillers or Botox but have always used a good face cream with sun block and wear a cap in summer.

Does anyone else vaguely entertain the idea of getting a face lift when the time is right, or is it something I should be ruling out now and learning to love my crinkles and wrinkles?

Is face lift the only option for jowls/neck?

JanisMoplin · 13/05/2022 19:22

I have seen Foreo bear mentioned on here for jowls but I have never tried it- am too lazy- and am slowly embracing the bloodhound look.

iklboo · 13/05/2022 19:22

Definitely not. Apart from the cost - which, for me, could be better spent elsewhere - a lot can go wrong, even with UK plastic surgeons (ie not flying abroad because it's cheaper).

It's not about only reserving your thoughts for worthy things like saving the planet! It's about injecting often dangerous stuff into your face/slicing it up. And OP asked why people might or might not consider a face lift. I won't consider it because I think it is dangerous, unnecessary and painful. Hardly comparable to getting a new car.

Which is perfectly reasonable. I just don't see why whether men would do it or not is relevant. I don't feel forced into considering a face lift because I'm a woman, I'm at perfect liberty to take the view of the vast majority of men AND women, and not have a face lift if I so choose. My position, status, worth and contribution to the world don't change either way. It just means I wouldn't have a face that looked older than my body.

LeftFootForward · 13/05/2022 19:26

No.
If others want to I'm happy for them but personally I would rather look old than a bit odd as many people who who have had work do.

JanisMoplin · 13/05/2022 19:28

I disagree entirely with you and think the pressure on women to look young is far greater than that on men, but on reflection yes, best discussed in another forum, not frothy Style and Beauty because it might get heated. Bit unnerved by another similar thread in the same forum, but of course we can't have a TAAT.

JanisMoplin · 13/05/2022 19:29

sorry last comment meant for 5128gap

TitsInAbsentia · 13/05/2022 19:43

Not a whole lift but I would love something done about my droopy eyelids, one is worse than the other so I look a bit pissed most of the time (even when I'm not 😬). I've got a foreo bear mini which I though might help if it lift my temples/forehead a little but no such luck.

RosesandMoonshine · 13/05/2022 11:20

Like tit tape but for jowls.

Such tape exists! I think they’re called Frownies and the old movie stars used to use them, IIRC.

RaraRachael · 13/05/2022 19:48

Never in a million years. I'm very lucky to have virtually no wrinkles, but my mother hardly aged at all so I guess there's a youthful gene somewhere. I realise that other people may not be so fortunate but I find it very sad when I see celebrities whose faces look quite ridiculous.

Each to their own and all that.

AbsoluteShambles · 13/05/2022 19:53

5128gap · 13/05/2022 19:07

To be perfectly honest, I really couldn't care less what men worry about. But if I were to guess, I'd say losing their hair, erectile disfunction, whether their car's as good as the neighbour's and if their brother in law earns more than them. I'm pretty sure they don't reserve their thoughts only for worthy and important things so I'm not sure why women should be compared unfavourably to them for discussing face lifts on a style and beauty board.

Totally agree!

LKsGrowler · 13/05/2022 17:20

No.

The thought of slicing my face open and readjusting it for aesthetics terrifies me on many levels.

...and I now feel I want a t-lift. I had no idea there are so many different types of face lift.

😂 So many options!

Wagsandclaws · 13/05/2022 20:11

I would and have done.

I'm 50 and in my late 40's lost 6 stone so was left with significant sagging ( everywhere ) but I hated my neck as it was very saggy indeed.

My surgeon recommend a neck lift in conjunction with a lower face lift. I do use Botox and fillers so he said the upper part of my face was fine ( didn't need touching ).

The thing is i really get it when you just want to grow older with your own face and I do but by the same token I also feel why shouldn't people have done what they wish If it makes them happy?

I'm not talking obsessive constant surgeries I'm taking about rectifying certain issues if they make you unhappy.

I hated my neck so saved for my surgery. I love using retinol and will still use Botox and fillers to feel good about myself.

Just because it works for me doesn't mean it does for everyone though. Nothing wrong with a face with wrinkles it's just not for me just yet as is keeping the grey hairs at bag as best I can.

I've attached a photo of my before and after so that you can see that it's a nice natural result. It's made a huge difference to my self esteem and I'm much happier as a result and would say to anyone considering it to go ahead if you can afford it and you think it might make you feel happier about yourself.

The before and after photo was taken in the morning just before the surgery then the one next to it is me travelling home about 1.4 hrs after my surgery ( all done under a local ) as you can see my profile is much improved.

The last pic is of me now. I really don't mind looking my age I just didn't want a saggy neck and I do love looking more refreshed and less shattered Smile

Wow what happened to all the paragraphs?? HmmShock

MyBottomDecides · 13/05/2022 20:17

I would. I'm 54 and have no idea who this jowly battleaxe in the mirror is. But I have no idea how to go about it....

SiobhanSharpe · 13/05/2022 20:18

I can see your paragraphs ok (on an ipad).

Wallabyone · 13/05/2022 20:22

@Wagsandclaws you look fab-congratulations on your weight loss too.

I agree, that if people have a problem area that makes them unhappy and they want to change it-go for it!

I am nearing 40, have fines lines and a big nose, but I don't want surgery, so I won't have it! I've never had Botox or anything, and I'm not sure if I'll ever bother.

As I've got older, I care less of what people think and feel more confident than I ever have really. I have a wrinkly belly and separated tummy muscles which I don't love, but again, I'm not sure that I'd bother to change it.

SiobhanSharpe · 13/05/2022 20:27

My eyelids are the problem for me, so saggy and droopy, and getting worse. I think it's starting to affect my vision, my actual eye area is decreasing and, worse still, one eye is much more affected than the other, so i look even weirder. I have private health insurance (through work) but they won't cover blepharoplasty at all, cosmetic or medically necessary.
It's four grand per eye , upper lids only, as a day procedure under local anaesthetic. I couldn't cope with a general, I had a knee op last year, with a spinal block and that was bad enoigh.

MattDamon · 13/05/2022 20:30

@SiobhanSharpe What about a brow lift?

ArabeI · 13/05/2022 20:36

I don't think so, but who knows. I'd always thought it was a line I wouldn't cross, but recently thought upper blepharoplasty might be something I'd consider one day, if needed.

At the moment I'm happy with botox, Foreo bear and tret to keep the signs of ageing at bay. That sounds like a lot, reading back!

I remember your thread and you have probably the best results I’ve seen generally

I’d still be too scared but well done to anyone getting great results

AbsoluteShambles · 13/05/2022 20:53

@Wagsandclaws You look fabulous. I’m sure you did before too but you know what I mean.

How much?! I'll not be having that then! I might just get some sticky tape....

FarFarFarAndAway · 13/05/2022 21:01

When I see @Wagsandclaws results I do think, ooh I would like that. I have a saggy neck. But I'm a giant coward. Plus my children have lost one parent and have made me promise I won't have any surgery that would put me at risk in any way, so for me, for now, it's a no.
