Would you have a face lift?

I think I've always been open to the idea of a face lift - am 48 now and think I might be wrinkly enough in a couple of years.

I'm not into fillers or Botox but have always used a good face cream with sun block and wear a cap in summer.

Does anyone else vaguely entertain the idea of getting a face lift when the time is right, or is it something I should be ruling out now and learning to love my crinkles and wrinkles?

Look, if there is something about your body that makes you feel insecure and pissing you off enough to post about it, just do it! - if you can afford it.

life is too short.

absolutelynotfabulous · 13/05/2022 21:06

I would, money permitting. I'm 62. I look after myself so a face lift would just be another means to the same end. And I'm vain🙂

herewegoagainmymy · 13/05/2022 21:08

I would try some light filler first. It scaffolds the face. Makes you look more youthful, less saggy. Go to someone who knows what they’re doing!

MattDamon · 13/05/2022 20:30

@SiobhanSharpe What about a brow lift?

I think there is just too much excess skin on the eyelids, I'd end up looking like Gary Glitter - permanently surprised.😦

SiobhanSharpe · 13/05/2022 21:34

(Although the excessive plastic surgery was the least of his problems.)

Chewbecca · 13/05/2022 21:44

Never.

I have had, and need more surgeries to address medical issues and try to improve chronic pain.

I would never go under anaesthetic for vanity & think it is a real shame and waste of resources tbh.

weekendready · 13/05/2022 21:59

Definitely not. Madonna has so much money and her facelift doesn't look good in my opinion. She's always looked good, what a shame she had that work done.

I's like to get my teeth done, that's about it.

Hbh17 · 13/05/2022 22:00

No, never. We all get old - it is completely normal. People who have facelifts generally don't look younger, they just look like they've had cosmetic surgery. Not at all appealing.

Craftycorvid · 13/05/2022 22:11

Yes. Had a lower face lift and lipo’ last year. Weight loss plus meno’ meant my jawline was sort of melting - I’d always had a double chin and chubby face and losing the fat left a deflated balloon in its wake. No, it shouldn’t matter, but I’d spent most of my adult life unhappy about my looks and I wanted to change that. I’m really happy with the results. Yes, scars are inevitable with surgery, but mine are very discreet and fading well. I do still have some slight numbness around my ears but that is also improving. I am lucky in having good skin in terms of not having too many wrinkles, it was the sagging! I have loose skin everywhere else, too, and am contemplating getting that addressed in time. It’s a very personal choice and not for everyone. I’d say research the surgeon and make sure you don’t feel rushed into anything.

Minimalme · 13/05/2022 22:14

I flip flop about with every different view on here - I basically agree with everyone which rules me out of contributing to the debate.

I am vain I think. I get genuine joy from putting on my make up and dressing in my most loved clothes. I am a minimalist so have under 50 items in my wardrobe, including accessories, shoes, bags etc and like to take good care of them.

I like my face but am struggling to see it age. That's pretty vain I think. I definitely don't just other women in the way I judge myself. So maybe I'm vain and self-obsessed.

I had a crap childhood and was deprived of love, security and nice things. I've addressed a lot of my demons but have a terrible sense of loss - lost decades taken from me by my abusive parents.

Which can't be solved by fewer wrinkles but I can't seem to be at peace with aging either.

@Craftycorvid I'm so pleased it has brought you happiness, that's fantastic.

@AbsoluteShambles thank you! Yes I probably looked nice as I like skincare and did dabble in Botox and fillers but I hated my neck for ages and the more weight I lost the worse it got sadly. It affected the way I felt about myself when I was getting ready and looking in a mirror and I thought that life was too short to feel like that.

@FarFarFarAndAway I'm ever so sorry to read about your partner and that you are having to parent on your own

to be honest I am a huge coward too so I looked for a surgeon who would use a local anaesthetic and I was in on the table for 3 hours approx ( that included waiting for the injections all around my lower face to work ) and when I got up and off the table after surgery I was going home
Within half an hour ( my eldest daughter drove me ).

The only real danger would have been infection I suppose but I was given antibiotics to take and painkillers and they phoned every other day for a week to see how I was so it was the lowest risk I felt out of any surgery ( I won't get a tummy tuck for that reason and lord knows I need one! )

@Workinghardeveryday I agree, i can't afford anymore surgery and my stomach along with several other bits of my body aren't great but I felt the neck thing was the most important to me. Life is definitely too short to feel bad about yourself.

Wagsandclaws · 13/05/2022 22:19

@Craftycorvid so glad you are happy with your results!

Also agree , do your research on your surgeon and always look at their work in relation to what you want done.

Real Self is supposed to be a good resource and surgeon sourceress on Instagram has lots of info.

FarFarFarAndAway · 13/05/2022 22:44

@Wagsandclaws thank you for your lovely message, you do really look fab. I also have a flabby/mum stomach but for some reason I don't worry about that! Perhaps hidden by the large pants I wear...it's funny what bothers us and what doesn't.

Ohchristmastreeohchristmastree · 14/05/2022 07:05

I would. It’s not the wrinkles but the sagging I don’t like. I think men get away with this as they can grow a beard to hide the saggy jawline and despite me having numerous more chin hairs in my middle age I’m not planning on growing a beard.

I’m mid 40’s and don’t have Botox or fillers, but I think I would have a facelift.

Wagsandclaws · 14/05/2022 07:13

@FarFarFarAndAway I hide mine with Spanx but it's still a little evident in clothes so I'm like 🤷‍♀️ some things you just have to accept but it does bother me I'd be fibbing if I said it didn't 😬.

There is another way of looking at it I suppose which is after 5 dc and 30 years of being obese it is a stomach that's done amazing things and been put under amazing pressure so I'll see it like a badge of honour rather than hate it.

@Ohchristmastreeohchristmastree I hear you! I've got a Phillips lumea now that's massively cut down the amount of shaving I have to do ( my facial hair got to a point where id need to shave every other day ) I can highly recommend them!

TabithaTittlemouse · 14/05/2022 07:39

If they guaranteed that I would wake up looking like @Wagsandclaws absolutely hell yes!

but no. I’m a wimp. Others can do whatever they wish but I’m too lazy.

megletthesecond · 14/05/2022 07:43

No. The recovery is grim.

I would have botox though. My frown lines are awful and I get constant stress headaches. It would be nice to wake up not scowling.

CrunchyCarrot · 14/05/2022 07:52

No. I accept myself as I am (I'm mid 60s with hypothyroidism so don't look particularly well). Also I'm a needle-phobe so would never go near those or any surgical options! I'd rather fix my health than my face.

Minimalme · 14/05/2022 07:53

You look beautiful @Wagsandclaws - It was a great decision (and you were brave to just to local anaesthetic).

You can see you have made peace with yourself and fwiw, I definitely agree that life is too short to feel bad about ourselves.

That seems to me to be the one thing we all agree on - feeling good about ourselves, whether via surgery/Botox/fillers or self-acceptance.

Do it. The headache side of things was such a brilliant side effect.

Ginajo · 14/05/2022 08:03

I'm in my late 50s. I've had Botox since my 40s and tried Profilho once. I look ok, but I'm definitely starting to look my age. I wouldn't have a facelift though, for me going under the knife for cosmetic reasons is a step too far. It sounds trite but I'm grateful to be healthy and I'm focussing on skincare and making the best of what I've got.
I'd love a breast reduction, but again, for me unnecessary surgery doesn't feel right. That's just my view though, I don't judge others who feel comfortable with it.

Delatron · 14/05/2022 08:21

I think Madonna has over done the fillers and that is why she looks awful.

Hasn’t Helen Mirram had a facelift? Jane Fonda? A well done face lift eventually looks better once you get to a certain age. I guess you can’t keep putting filler in (I’m also worried about filler migration and I think it last longer than they say as shown on MRIs).

OldWivesTale · 14/05/2022 08:24

No. Mainly because any surgery of this kind ends up making you just look weird. Same with fillers and botox. It doesn't matter how "we'll it's done", your face starts to look odd. I don't think people can see it themselves because they can't see their faces and expressions when they're talking but they don't look younger; just look like an older person who's doing stuff to their face.

OldWivesTale · 14/05/2022 08:29

I think what Wags and Claws did was great though. If you have a specific problem eg loose skin caused by weight loss, then it's very different. Or boob reduction type ops work well. I just think general anti- aging stuff doesn't work.
