Argh.
im needle phobic lol, absolutely rubbish with pain I think. But I’m booked to get fillers on Monday at 3pm.
im having 1ml and going up slowly. I have the smallest top lip that disappears when I smile but I love wearing red lipstick :(

does it really really hurt? Does numbing cream work?

the woman is a qualified nurse/midwife as well.

To pp I think the whole point of people who get their lips done is to be noticeable and for them to look done

they like the ‘done’ look

it can’t be anything other than that as you simply can tell 100% of the time. They never look good no matter how much people deny it.

it is a fake look and people going into it want a fake look otherwise they wouldn’t get them

that upturned lip is unavoidable

op I know a lot of nurses who do lips - they’re no better than beauticians by the way

Why do you want to inject crap into your face? Have you seen what happens when it goes wrong? Google it!

Have you seen what happens when it goes (supposedly ) right?! Some look okay from the front but the side view always looks weird.

it’s just another way that women are told their natural self is unacceptable to society and somehow we convince ourselves that society is right.

Pegasaurus · 13/05/2022 07:07

Do they never dye hair =remove body hair/ wear bras or anything else that doesn't look 100 % like they haven't had anything done?

Big difference between those things and having something injected into a sensitive part of your body.

I also think that a lot if the time they look worse. Out local salon posts before and after photos of some of theirs on Insta and the before are always better.

This. Completely different.
2 of my friends get their lips done, you can see the ridge in profile and just don’t look nice.

Olsi109 · 13/05/2022 07:12

Numbing cream will help, ask them if they have a stress ball you can squeeze, wiggle your toes (sounds weird but was a tip I got and it works).

I've been having mine done for years at least once a year and just some advice, 1ml is not going up slowly at all. If you only want some definition in your top lip and a little bit of plump in both then I absolutely would not go for 1ml - I would go for 0.75 at the most and if anyone tries to upsell you the full 1ml do not go to them as those ones don't care about what you want, just want their pockets lining.

Jinglebellsoncake · 13/05/2022 07:22

You can buy the numbing cream from a pharmacy. It’s called EMLA. Put this on 15 mins Beforehand (Very thickly) and this will help.

I’m sure she will apply more when you arrive too.

let her know you are very sensitive and perhaps ask for a filler that contains lidocaine.

internetpersonme · 13/05/2022 07:25

I thought someone in the tube was sneering at me the other day then realised she'd had that shit done to her face.

pumpkinpie01 · 13/05/2022 07:30

1ml is a lot ! I went with my dd yesterday ( her money her choice ) and she had 0.7 in my opinion she looks absolutely ridiculous but she is an adult so makes her own choices . With regard to the pain she said it hurts when the needle is pulled back out not when going in.

krill · 13/05/2022 09:46

The numbing cream will help somewhat. But I think it's quite painful as far as cosmetic procedures go, the lips being a particular sensitive area, and depending what lip technique will be used.

GeminiTwin · 13/05/2022 10:00

OP, you'll get the usual crowd of 'it always looks crap, you can always tell, you'll look like a duck, stop injecting poising' etc. the saaaaame old. Who probably know nothing about dermal fillers and just see the over filled lips on Instagram.

I've been having my lips done for years. Once a year for about 6 years.
I do it as I have a literal invisible top lip without it. I have a qualified nurse do mine and her results are lovely on me. Not over done. No duck lip. No top shadow.

Make sure you go to someone reputable and look at their work. Preferably someone's medically qualified. Remember it can always eve dissolved.

It does hurt. It's not as bad as you think. The numbing cream is great. The Cupid's bow is the worst but the whole thing ten mins max. Here's mine for all the duck pout army.

I wish people women would stop tearing women down when trying to fix an insecurity.

krill · 13/05/2022 10:11

Just make sure to tell your medical practitioner that you have an aversion to needles. They'll be used to that.

Best of luck

Surely it's just as important to try and make someone feel happy in the body they have rather than change what is there. Self confidence should come from things other than looks. As looks fade. I feel I'm quite lucky in that I have always been very average looking. I've never been very interested in the way I look and now that I am ageing my confidence has grown where is some of my friends who were very pretty and relied on their looks a lot what are now finding it harder to deal with the ageing process as so much of their self worth was wrapped up in their looks. I've got this season for the wonderful women they are but they struggle to do that and worry that they are getting saggy and wrinkly.

Worldgonecrazy · 13/05/2022 10:50

@GeminiTwin you have a lovely smile but your lips still look ‘done’.

Its not about tearing down women trying to fix insecurity. If we want to fix insecurity surely addressing the root cause is the best long term solution? Persuading women they need surgery, fake eyelashes, fake tan, fake nails, and to photoshop every photo before publishing on social media, is massively harmful and just increases the insecurity.

You are still insecure about your lips, that’s why you get them done. If you were able to fix that insecurity you would save a lot of money.

It suits the media and beauty industry to keep women insecure and constantly change the beauty ideal. I dread to think where it will go next, as it seems to have become more mainstream to undergo invasive and extreme techniques.

When I see the photoshopped photos of younger women it makes me feel very sad that they feel the need to do this. It’s almost as if everything that young women do for beauty is focused on what it will look like in photos rather than what it looks like in real life.

AbsoluteShambles · 13/05/2022 11:58

If it's any consolation, it doesn't feel like a needle to me. It's just painful in a unique way (and I've had a lot of shit done - cosmetic and for health reasons). 😂While pain obviously isn't fun, maybe that reduces your concern about the needle itself?

Not going to lie, I'm pretty tough (and vain) and it's the one thing that I hate doing. Again though, not even slightly because it's a needle (or canula). As PPs have said, slather yourself in EMLA.

You've got this.

@GeminiTwin Gorgeous photo.

BeautifulWar · 13/05/2022 12:03

Not even a beauty standard is it? It all revolves around porn and men imagining having a set of plunger lips around their cock.

Attractive.

beguilingeyes · 13/05/2022 12:08

They don't always look ridiculous. You only notice the bad ones.
I had mine done a year or so ago...I have no lips...with ageing it's got much worse.
I loved it, I felt as though I could wear lipstick properly for the first time.
Sadly though it only lasts a few month and I can't afford to keep doing it.

Many people have a minimal amount to counteract age related concerns. I've known people have as little as 0.2ml, which is scarcely detectable if done well.

This is far from some porn aesthetic, which admittedly I'd never heard of in relation to lip filler. Is that overfilled lips? A reputable practitioner would refuse to do that I think.

You have an incredibly warped way of thinking.

I don't get my lips done to look like a pornstar thank you.
I'm not even massively insecure about them pre-filler. I just prefer the look of them when I have them done. Never linked it to porn in my life. How strange.

FlissyPaps · 13/05/2022 12:31

It's not my mindset! Where do you think this 'look' has come from?

But it is your mindset though. A vile one at that.

Women don’t have these procedures done to appear to men. Or to make them more plunge “round men’s cocks” because of porn. (I know plenty of lesbians who have lip fillers who wouldn’t dream of touching a mans cock with their hand, never mind their mouth!)

Lip fillers were first introduced in the 19th century to correct facial deformities. Cosmetic surgery and society has obviously evolved since then but the same happens today. There are a number of reasons why women (and also men) get them. Wether that’s correcting the shape, making them fuller, larger in appearance due to insecurities or just purely cosmetic.

If you don’t like the “look” of them. Then good for you. You do you. But a lot of people do like the look and they don’t deserve to be berated over it.

Pure judgement and nastiness on this thread when the OP was wanting advice regarding the pain and a fear of needles.

If you haven’t had lip fillers or experienced cosmetic procedures that involves injecting then don’t bother commenting.

Thatsplentyjack · 13/05/2022 12:36

Bot sure why everyone is telling the OP not to do it when she didn't ask for an opinion on that. Typical mumsnet. If a woman wants to do something to her own body, who the fuck is anyone else to tell her not to and how ugly and disgusting it is?

Thatsplentyjack · 13/05/2022 12:39

As long as the put on a lot of numbing cream, it will be fine. I hardly felt mine. I only got 0.5ml. Just a sort of tugging sensation and a tiny bit stingy in places.
