First timer here, always swore agains the damn things but gave in due to the look of utter comfort and nice looking fabric, etc. Bought the L&Y in cord sea blue.
I am worried about sizing as new to this, so at 5'4 and uk8 I got the 6 reg.
I don't like the look of those mad rolls at the ankle so could get them trimmed.

So I want to ask the aficionados how easy is it to quickly use the loo?
Do you feel like 'Lulu' from Harry Enfield and Chums?
Are the cord one's too hot for summer?
Will I care? Grin

Anyone else ever totally sworn off a thing then...leapt right in?
I suppose they can always go back if they offend me.
I'm 48 and actually called Lulu. 😬

Well that's it now. You've bought your entry level dungarees, you'll never go back.
I have various pairs, quite a few from L&Y, cord for the winter and cotton and denim for the summer. I blinking love them, I dress them up with lacy Victorian tops or masculine linen shirts or else bright t shirts. They are ridiculously comfortable. In fact, I have worn them with nothing but a sparkly bra underneath for a festival once!
Anyway, welcome to the comfy side, boilersuits next....

RosesandMoonshine · 11/05/2022 12:31

I honestly hated them, not that I judged anyone, obviously seeing others look good led me on to this path..

I tend to wear more fitted stuff generally, so wanted a less rigid waist for casual. DH is terrified now that I am going to buy him a pair.

I swore I’d never wear them. Got a pink pair last year. Now I have 3 and looking for more!

Lifeisforalimitedperiodonly · 11/05/2022 12:51

Blimey it's confession time here. We are Lucy & Yak fanatics. My daughter has 14 pairs and I have 9. I do have my eye on some coming out this month by a company called Jambats as well so I shall branch out. I originally got some Lucy & Yak Alexas which are fab elasticated waist trousers (have 11 pairs of those but that's another story) then I moved onto dungarees. Love them.
Age is just a number. I'm 63 :)

RosesandMoonshine · 11/05/2022 13:14

Just wow, 14 pairs!!!!!!

Don't get them taken up until after you've washed them - L&Y can shrink a bit on first wash, though it's not a given. I live in mine - so, so comfy.

It's really easy to pee in them - just shrug off the shoulder strap and pull them down. You shouldn't have to undo anything to get in and out of them.

I always used to wear fitted clothing (as an hourglass you must show off your waist otherwise you'll look round, broc) but am a total convert to the relaxed look now. I'd go as far as to say I can barely bear a waistband when I need to dress up these days. Fortunately you can, IMO, dress them up and look fab for a night out/smart lunch. Just think more is not enough with sparkly jewellery 😁

Birdie746 · 11/05/2022 13:34

Just looked them up, those turn ups 😆

RosesandMoonshine · 11/05/2022 13:37

@broccolibush Will wash first, thanks!

I just usually feel better in slimmer fit clothes, as long as they're comfy. I don't dress for my figure much but often feel I make relaxed stuff look floppy. The dungarees interest me because I hate bunched up/thick fabric waists, so could just throw on a vest and pull these on over it.

Anyway, welcome to the comfy side, boilersuits next.... yup Grin

I don't like the expectation that women should show off our best bits either. All I wear is dungarees and boilersuits these days.

Gonna check out jambats now Smile

nearlyspringyay · 11/05/2022 13:49

Personally, I look like a bloody giant toddler in them, I am the wrong shape. I wish I wasn't. I work with someone who rocks them.

Cant imagine it's ay worse than going to the loo in a jumpsuit, easier than zipping one up at the back anyway.

Frogsonglue · 11/05/2022 13:51

I've found my people! I've managed to get my dungaree collection back down into single figures after selling a few pairs on eBay, L&Ys hold their value quite well! You'll get people coming along shortly telling you dungarees are for kids only, but ignore them, they are dead inside 😝

broccolibush · 11/05/2022 14:01

I keep doing that @Frogsonglue - I have a 1 out 1 in policy now otherwise my wardrobe would be overrun.

Agree that L&Y hold their value well, and if you get a limited edition pair you can even make money - seeing how much the vulva print ones can fetch has often made me consider selling mine, but I can't bring myself to lose them.

RosesandMoonshine · 11/05/2022 14:04

Vulva print dungarees?
Oh shit what have I done Grin

Dungarees are so comfy- wore them whilst pregnant, but I just don't have the shape now I'm not pregnant. They look so bad on me! Annoying as people that can pull them off always look really nice! Not jealous at all!!!

rainbowandglitter · 11/05/2022 14:13

I just bought my first pair of L&Y too. Not worn them yet though. Pretty excited. Grin

Annexlife · 11/05/2022 14:42

Me too, thought I'd never wear them as I usually need something more form fitting but a linen pair in white company caught my eye and I've been wearing them constantly. I was worried about the "toddler/ cbbc presenter look" but my husband even complimented them do must be ok! I love the versatility, long sleeve, short, flats, heels

Oh I didn't realise White Company did them. Will go have a look!

Annexlife · 11/05/2022 15:02

Navy, black and beige linen ones. I'm 5:5 and they hot just the right point on my leg which is unusual!

RaininginDarling · 11/05/2022 15:08

I love my dungarees. Easy to wear, dress up and down all year round. I have the Clayton dungarees from Fat Face in denim and black cord. Always get compliments, especially from young women (I'm in my 50s). Although go up a size they are not generous.

YouAreRuiningItForTheRestOfTheClass · 11/05/2022 15:09

Lucy and Yak are a gateway dung Grin

I am small and find on me, if the dungarees are loose, a tight fitting top looks better underneath. Slim or close fitting dungarees look good with looser tops (love a bell/flared sleeve).

I love dungarees but know objectively a jumpsuit with a belt is more "flattering". Luckily I couldn't give a fuck about flattering Grin

Fooshufflewickjbannanapants · 11/05/2022 15:22

Run and fly all the way here! Bloody love them so very comfy and don't give two shiny shites what people think.

allfurcoatnoknickers · 11/05/2022 15:29

I love my dungarees. Can't be doing with the baggy ones though. I've got this slim cut pair with cropped legs. I also LOVE my boiler suits and jumpsuits. I'm only 5'3 and I swear they make me look taller.

daisyjgrey · 11/05/2022 17:25

The only way anyone is the "wrong shape" for dungarees is if you have more than 2 legs and you can't physically fit your multiple pairs of legs into them.

There are no other "wrong shapes". Wear the dungarees, waistbands can fuck off.

RosesandMoonshine · 11/05/2022 18:00

'gateway dung' made my day, thank you!

I know this is a dungaree thread but does anyone have any boiler-suit recommendations? I'd love a short arse sized zip up one!
