What does Botox feel like?

I’m on the brink of getting Botox but I’m worried it’ll feel really strange and I’ll hate it! So what does it feel like after it’s done I’m not bothered by the injection bit.

It really doesn't feel like anything to be honest. It's not that dramatic and won't radically change your face. If I was to describe how it felt I'd say if you try and frown you won't be able to. If you try and bring your eyebrows together into a frown it's impossible. So you'll really only feel something even you try and use your frown muscles. You won't feel a thing at any other point.

jaffacakes16 · 08/05/2022 17:29

Thanks, that’s good I think I’m going to go for it. Frowning is my big issue I have permanent frown lines and frown so much I give myself headaches doing it sometimes!

It feels like a plaster has been put across your face.

😁

Skin is smoother and glowy.

(it can make you feel heavy- if you get forehead treated and naturally have heavy brows. )

jaffacakes16 · 08/05/2022 19:52

Aghh why am I too scared to book it!? I’ve been thinking of it for a couple of years now but couldn’t as I was always pregnant or breastfeeding now the time is right and I’ve got jitters!

Not sure if you mean you want to do forehead wrinkles or just your 'number 11s' but if the latter, it's such a tiny procedure on a very small part of your face and very unlikely to feel heavy. I am reluctant to do anything more than this but very pleased with the results and it's very subtle.

Has nobody else experienced the crackling noise then, that I had when my Botox was injected into my forehead? Blush

Isabelle70 · 08/05/2022 21:30

I have been having 11's, crows feet and forehead for the last 5 years every 4-5 months. I look fresher as I had permanent 11 even with my resting face.
Last time I went I only had crows feet and 11 done as I felt my eyes were not as open as they could be but that could also be age 😀 I am really pleased with the last session and will have the 2 locations again.

It can feel a bit tight in the first couple of weeks, or longer if they’ve overdone it, and you might get a slight headache. Sometimes you don’t feel anything at all though (after the initial injections). It’s nothing major and I wouldn’t let it put you off.

Yes I get a sort of cracking/popping noise when the needle pierces the skin at certain points.

You can just have one area done or light Botox/sprinkles if you just want to try it.

LyTinWheedle · 08/05/2022 21:36

Well someone I haven't seen for a while (and this is pretty outing if they read this Grin ) saw me in Tesco yesterday and said 'I thought it was you but then thought no because you looked about 26' (I'm 47) then it feels pretty awesome Smile Grin Smile

Sometimes I lose my ability to do a sardonic eyebrow but normally the brilliant technician does a low amount and I go back 2 weeks later for tiny top ups anywhere that needs it. I still have a mobile forehead but smaller range of movement IYSWIM?

Tigofigo · 08/05/2022 21:39

It feels weird the first few days - a bit heavy and achy and I did have a little bit of heavy eyelids as it settled.

But then you don't really notice it.

I only have my 11s done (which aren't bad in the first place) and it's really made a difference for me. Doubt anyone else even notices, but I feel more confident and it stops me from squinting.

That is the needle piercing the skin tissues. If it crackles it usually means you have good strong skin. Older and weaker skins just allow the needle to slip in easily

Yes it makes me think of a melon getting injected for some reason 😂

RitaFaircloughsWig · 08/05/2022 23:43

After I have had it my eyes instantly feel a bit more open as I get it to open and lift my eyes a bit. As it takes hold over several days it just feels tighter than before.

seperatedmum · 09/05/2022 08:30

mine was expertly done by a dentist which mumsnet hatesI felt like I could hear it more than feel it. I loved the result

jaffacakes16 · 09/05/2022 08:57

Thank you all, I’ve sent an email asking for an appointment. Not sure about the crackling watermelon thing but I’m sure it’ll be fine! Quite excited now!

OP posts:
seperatedmum · 09/05/2022 09:08

be excited! it makes a real difference, be aware that the more you sweat the shorter it'll last tho, I do exercise a lot and mine is really gone from late December but no new lines have formed. need to book more

5128gap · 09/05/2022 09:40

When it goes in it feels sharp and you hear a little crunch sound. It reminds me of treading on snow, but quieter. It hurts less than getting your eyebrows plucked.
Depending on the area there can be more injections than you expect. 5 for 11s alone.
You get little raised bumps where the needle has gone in that last about an hour. Don't rub them!
You may feel a tension like headache later on during the day and maybe a bit heavy eyed.
Its best to not lie flat for about 5 hours afterwards.
Over the next 3-5 days you get a gradual tightening sensation like a face mask. This wears off as you get used to it.
Most people are delighted with the results.
Wearing frownies at night really extends the results, but wait a week for it to settle before using them.

Yes, and one big bruise!

Isonthecase · 09/05/2022 10:14

Can anyone how has had good results recommend who they used please? Another very tempted one but no idea where to even start looking!

ArabeI · 09/05/2022 10:14

I don't like not being able to exercise for two days. Do people find that necessary?

I have light botox, so have movement in eyebrows, etc. Though have to concentrate to do a deep frown.

You need to be careful about migration which can be caused by strenuous excercise. Personally for a few days its not worth the risk of ending up looking lopsided or frozen in an odd place for the next 6 months.

ArabeI · 09/05/2022 10:42

Yes, you're probably right @5128gap I'll continue to be sensible!

mummysnetadmin · 09/05/2022 10:43

put it this way, there wont be many raised eyebrows
