Where do people get nice tops for jeans now?

I could really do with some nice new tops but can’t find much that is loose, hangs nice and long enough to cover my tummy-why is everything cropped!!
oasis used to be my go to but there’s nothing that’s jumping out. I’m underwhelmed by the Next options too. Mango, crap. Few possibilities in New Look but have to sift through the crop tops and teenage type stuff lol.
any recommendations?

I found a few in Next - I don't do cropped and I don't like tucked in! I was sick of wearing plain, long sleeved tops.

ImSoMagical · 05/05/2022 07:47

Sorry just saw you've tried Next! How about H and M? I've also found a few in Tescos of all places!

Carpediem15 · 05/05/2022 07:47

Try Matalan, I got 3 nice ones in there last week-end.

Sniffypete · 05/05/2022 07:49

When you find out, please tell me! So fed up of crop tops!

SallyWD · 05/05/2022 07:49

I like Fat Face

Procrastatron · 05/05/2022 07:50

hey, I think we need more info on what makes a top nice to you. I bought some lovely deep V and slightly oversized cotton Ts from Cos recently only £17 each. But these may be too plain.

coodawoodashooda · 05/05/2022 07:51

Tu in Sainsburys

A nice basic tee for daytime would be good so I’ll check those out thanks. Also thinking about something I’d wear going out for a meal type thing, but not a dressy meal…does that make sense lol.

Watching this because I'm also struggling. I bought a few strappy tops from fat face which I am hoping will be nice under a cardigan but I'd also like some tops with sleeves for the summer.

WeeM · 05/05/2022 07:55

or something for holiday/summer that’s short sleeved/strappy but still loose over the belly. I have a few from Asda but feel like that’s the only ones I wear!!

Lovemusic33 · 05/05/2022 07:55

Following, I’m looking for the same, some tops to go with jeans or with denim shorts for the summer, I like basic but good quality.

JanisMoplin · 05/05/2022 08:06

Have recommended Esprit so often on here that people will think I work for them, but I don't! I just like that they are less "trendy" than some other places, so not so many puff sleeves or smocking.

I also bought this top at Thought recently and am quite happy with it for drinks and dinner. www.wearethought.com/products/allis-tencel%E2%84%A2-satin-gathered-neck-detail-top-1?variant=41130698866871&gclid=CjwKCAjw682TBhATEiwA9crl3zGzQNh4jXCFEKRdMJjNGmlEZ56pTn55rYiX_FHTIdYswcHLpSN1zhoCvmoQAvD_BwE

Worth checking at places like Thought, Pure Collection....

WeeM · 05/05/2022 08:09

Matalan/Tu- will have a look there. There’s a Matalan not far from me.

thanks for the fatface recommendation too, couple there look nice. Right type of shape I’m thinking of.

Wandered in to M and S last night. Their range has definantly improved and is worth considering.

Crew Clothing company have a good range (txt maxx often have their range at discount prices) (not all stripey clothes)

Not popular on mn but I like brands such as Fatface, and seasalt.

Lily and me is another nice brand.

Also, Izabel London and friends have brought nice stuff from Sosander.

What look are you going for? What body shape? V neck or round neck? Maybe we can post some ideas.

Margotshypotheticaldog · 05/05/2022 08:17

What is the fit and quality like on those Thought and fatface t shirts? I bought some nice looking ts from Hush last year and they completely stretched and lost shape after washing. The material was pretty poor

JanisMoplin · 05/05/2022 08:23

I haven't washed my Thought top yet but looks good enough quality for the price. M and S also has some nice pure cotton tops online. I am not keen on polyester or thin viscose.

hellcatspanglelalala · 05/05/2022 08:30

If it's a particular type of top you like (e.g. Tie front, wrap, longline) just google it and see what comes up. I ended up with some from less obvious places that I wouldn't have thought to look (Dorothy Perkins online, freemans)

Crinklecuts · 05/05/2022 08:44

I feel your pain! I think it’s because high waisted jeans are most popular cut now.

uggmum · 05/05/2022 08:47

I bought this from M&S. it's a nice length and covers my stomach.

Good cut and hangs well. Available in 3 patterns.

It's really comfortable.

I think you’re right-even the long tops are always tucked in at the front, that is the last thing I want to do with my top….I wish I could!

I've given up with jeans and a nice top for evenings, and now wear dresses.

Its hard if you don't want to tuck things in.

BarbaraofSeville · 05/05/2022 09:09

I feel your pain. It seems that you're supposed to tuck it in now whatever you look like because 'body positivity' but it's a hell of a mindset change for those of us used to wearing looser tops that skim over tummies and hips.

I agree that Oasis were great for this once you get over paying £40 for a scrap of polyester. I have a couple of tops that are my 'going out tops' from there that I wear with skinny jeans and they're probably about 5-10 years old and I'll be really sad if they wear out.

But Oasis are still going online and mine are similar to this one:

Margotshypotheticaldog · 05/05/2022 09:30

As a brief online buying guide, is it simply
*Polyester and viscose = non breathable and bad
*Cotton and natural fibres = good?
Or should cotton tshirts/ tops have a little mix of something else to retain shape?
And what about tencel which I'm seeing on clothing increasingly?

Crimeismymiddlename · 05/05/2022 09:30

River Island always have some nice flattering tops in, Matalan has a few nice bits as well. Peacocks has been surprisingly good recently.
