Side parting - totally out??

Workinghardeveryday · 04/05/2022 20:22

So I have tried. And tried. I look, how do I put it - horrible and a bit of a twat with a centre parting 😔.

I suit a slightly off centre parting, but I keep reading this is totally unfashionable.

is it??!

No

TulipsGarden · 04/05/2022 20:24

I think this is only really important if you're 14. If you're a grown adult you can and should have your hair however you like it and it suits you.

(I don't know why we're supposed to care what Gen Z are doing...)

SugarMiceInTheRain · 04/05/2022 20:24

Unfashionable or not, my hair is very thin round the centre so I have to do a side parting if I don't want to look like I'm balding 😭 My hair naturally falls to a centre parting though. So annoying.

PeekAtYou · 04/05/2022 20:25

Dd is Gen Z so anti-middle parting which is apparently the sign of being a Millenial.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 04/05/2022 20:25

I don't care if it is or not - I look like Severus Snape with a dead centre parting, so I'll be keeping it slightly to one side like you.

Pipperleen · 04/05/2022 20:25

I suit a side parting so much more than a centre one. I’m keeping it.

ImInStealthMode · 04/05/2022 20:26

I couldn't care what some wanker at a magazine has declared is in fashion or not. A centre parting makes me look like a knob, so I wear a side parting. Always have, always will.

dementedpixie · 04/05/2022 20:26

Who cares?
My hair has always had a side parting as it doesn't sit right in any other parting
It's what suits you and your hair

Same! I never think about what’s in or out with my hair and makeup (or clothes) - just what suits me! I look terrible with a middle parting though. Terrible.

FlibbertyGiblets · 04/05/2022 20:27

My hair parts dead centre and will flip back to dead centre in a flash - but also my fringe grows a bit sideways out of my hairline, you can imagine how fashionable I look (not)

FlibbertyGiblets · 04/05/2022 20:28

Actually it was super fash dahlings in that short period where zig zag partings were all the rage (Sunset Beach, anyone?)

mogtheexcellent · 04/05/2022 20:29

Ive had a side parting dor 45 years. Didnt realise it wasnt allowed Confused

IvorCutler · 04/05/2022 22:32

Seriously who gives a shit? I’m all for trends and fashion but I’m not going to make myself look shit by parting my hair in a style that doesn’t suit me. As it happens a centre part looks ok on me but slightly off centre is much better.

Sorry if I sound ranty, bloody football is on and I want to watch Ozark. Gin involved.

Sunset beach!

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 04/05/2022 22:50

I was looking at photos of this ridonculously ostentatious and fashiony Getty wedding that took place last autumn. All her (many, many) bridesmaids had side-partings. So maybe the centre-parting is already old news and the side parting is actually uber trendy.

Who can keep up!

Sunset beach!

Showing my age (Annie had the most extreme zig zag parting)

Pinklimey · 05/05/2022 00:35

I don't think it matters. I would be glad if side partings are out. I have spent most of my life battling hair dressers who were convinced it was essential I had a side parting.

AuntTwacky · 05/05/2022 00:55

Part where you like!

Workinghardeveryday · 05/05/2022 07:15

Thank you all. I will go with the side parting 😁

Centre parting only suits winsome teenagers. Don't even try.

TheChosenTwo · 05/05/2022 07:18

Surely your hair parts where it parts? I can sort of flip mine to one side but it just goes back to a centre parting when I’m not looking!

evilharpy · 05/05/2022 11:55

I dry mine into a centre parting and by 10am it's back in a side parting, it refuses to stay.

This is exactly what I was going to say. I tried a centre parting and saw Alan Rickman staring back from the mirror and decided to stick to the side parting after all Grin

napody · 05/05/2022 12:22

Laughed out loud at the Severus Snape comparisons: me too although I didn’t realise it til now!

1nightinparis · 05/05/2022 14:27

Side parting. I look like one of the Founding Fathers with a centre parting.
