Does anyone else think natural hair colour is the best?

I was sat in a hospital waiting room this morning for hours. Did a lot of people watching. I'm thinking of getting balayage on my light brown hair so was looking at what other women had done.

There was a lot of box dyes, either a redish colour or unnaturally black and lots of women with my colour hair plus highlights/balayage. I dont think any of them looked better. The women who's hair looked best were the ones with natural, shiny hair and a good cut. I didn't see anyone who looked improved with dye. I'm thinking I'll save my money and stick with my natural colour.

No, totally disagree. How do you know the 'natural' hair colours were natural?
The other ones were probably badly done home hair dyes (probably more popular after the pandemic) or a bad choice of colour.

"Yep- this too. I know a few people whose hair is a gorgeous colour, matches their brows, and is 100% not natural. I would never have guessed in a million years it wasnt natural."

My hair doesn't match my brows and the roots show a bit after a few weeks, but still loads of people think it's natural. The exception is when I've just had it done when many people can easily spot it's artificial. I dye it red and people make comments about redheads' passionate nature, etc.

I started going grey in my 20s so have coloured for years - now late 40s and quit last October. My hairdresser says I am only about 5% grey which is a shock. I have two streaks at the sides, and some through the top, and actually I feel good for it. I have a sharp cut, trimmed every five weeks, and I think that helps carry it off. I don’t think it looks “better”, it’s just a lot less work to keep up.

@Scandiscandic292 bless you, I am calm and I didn’t say that you are a bad person, I said that it wasn’t very nice. ‘Calm down’ Wink

I highlight my own hair in a way that looks pretty natural - balayage/ombre. It looks better than my natural dark brown/reddish hair. The highlights come out coppery.

I am in my 50s and have had every hair colour and cut except a green pixie crop. This isn't an exaggeration. I was persuaded to grow out my natural colour by my current hairdresser and it looks lovely and is so low maintenance: I wish I'd done it years ago.

A friend has neon pink long wavy hair with purple ends. It's shiny & beautiful.

I'm very lucky with mine. I was a red head and now have a lot of grey but it looks blond. I'm 54 and have never dyed my hair.

“There was a lot of box dyes, either a redish colour or unnaturally black and lots of women with my colour hair plus highlights/balayage. I dont think any of them looked better.”

But how on earth could you know, unless you’ve seen all of them previously with their natural colour hair? Also what you think might be a natural hair colour may just be a good dye job. Unless you surveyed everyone I’m not sure you can really be sure.

I think some dyed hair looks great and some natural looks great, a friend has her hair pink and it looks so much better than her natural hair colour.

I tend to agree people suit their natural colour - except for that very mousey dark blonde/light brown which I think looks almost grey, and very flat somehow. I think those colours always look in need of a lift, either with high or low lights. I also think people with that mouse colouring tend to suit lots of other colours.

I have exactly this colour hair although when I was younger I had more coppery mid brown. Now it is a horribly dull, aging colour. White or grey hair can look amazing but the ditchwater dullness of light brown is to be resisted!

Thought the same today
colour looks nice when it’s freshly done after 3 weeks starts looking rough

Shmithecat2 · 07/05/2022 20:48

I get my hair coloured regularly and love it. It depends on your skin though - not all colours suit all skin tones, and no one, but NO ONE looks good with dyed black hair. No one. It always looks like a wig.

I died my hair for decades and enjoyed the variety that gave me. Then for a few years I noticed that my relatively newly grey hair was consistently white (rather than mixed grey) at the front and I thought that might look good as is. Against my hairdressers advice, I went for it, had it cropped very short. I have loved my white grey hair (there are some streaks of darker grey at the back) ever since. I immediately noticed my hair was in much better condition. I feel it looks great and it saves me a fortune!

Dyed 🙄
