Dress for a wedding - hate my tummy

Greentomatoes21 · 30/04/2022 17:06

I need a dress for a family wedding. I generally dislike shopping but today was the worst ever...I just hate my tummy area and feel like nothing suits me. I'm a UK size 12/14, always had a bit of a tum but nothing major. Since my c section it has been awful! Anyway, I just feel like I've no idea what to buy that might look OK...

What style of dress helps to 'flatter' this kind of shape?

This kind of shape? phase eight maxi?

Loopytiles · 30/04/2022 17:30

i remember this. Had diastasis recti. Maxi didn’t work for me as looked pregnant in them.

straighter styles worked ok.

just keep trying things on in shops til you find something flattering. ordering online when unsure what will fit and suit just leads to hassle!

Spanx. Trust me.

Spanx. Trust me.

Seconded.

Greentomatoes21 · 30/04/2022 17:40

@welltidy thanks - I can't access the link for some reason!

@loopytiles - not sure if I have that (have heard of it, must Google!) YES, hate maxis. I'm only 5 ft 1 and with the length plus the tummy...well! It is not the best combo! Must look for some straighter styles. Went shopping today and was generally disappointed with the high street stuff I saw 😪

I’m only 5 foot 1 too and my tummy is the biggest part of me. Spanx higher power are a must for me, wouldn’t wear an occasion dress without them. Boden petite is my go to for dresses.

RamsayBoltonsConscience · 30/04/2022 17:42

Spanx thirded!😁

Loopytiles · 30/04/2022 17:57

Spanx do make a difference but there is a high price to pay in discomfort!

Workyticket · 30/04/2022 17:59

Conturve shapewear is great

Greentomatoes21 · 30/04/2022 18:19

Thank you everyone! I'm googling!!

@welltidy there was no link at all that time- sorry! Interested in this particular type of spanx. Never heard of them!!

Yes, shapewear...maybe I need to go shopping with the spanx on?!

OP, it is the maya palm maxi in the navy on the phase eight website. £110.

Scottsforsure281 · 30/04/2022 18:47

I've got the perfect dress for you!! I've suggested it before on here. It's so so flattering, I've got a tummy too and this dress is the most comfortable and flattering I've ever owned. Will be a great midi length on you too. It shows off your waist and they floats over everything else, no spanx needed, eat as much as you want under there!! I'll just go and find the link.

WellTidy · 30/04/2022 18:48

Oh my lord, if it’s good for the OP it will be good for me too. Same shape and height.

StarlightLady · 30/04/2022 18:50

M&S control slip. Wear your own bra with it, comfy and easier than any other shape wear when you need to go for a wee.

Available in other colours too

The tight bit of the dress on the waist sits on your rib cage and then the dress flares out covering a multitude of sins beneath! Lovely and classy for a wedding too. I've got it in navy for a wedding and then I bought it in black aswell because I know that one day I'll have a function to go to and we'll, its just a gorgeous black dress.

Greentomatoes21 · 30/04/2022 18:59

Thank you all so much for the suggestions, I'm actually feeling better about everything by simply having a few options and knowing I'm not the only one with this problem!

@Scottsforsure281 - looks like a lovely dress! Out of interest how does their sizing come up - do their clothes tend to be true to size? 😊

Scottsforsure281 · 30/04/2022 19:06

TuxedoJunction it's a great dress isn't it, even better in real life. If you click on the link you'll see a it says 'whats my size?' Click on that and you put your height and weight in, they then tell you what other women have bought and what size they suggest for you. I'd say they come up a little bit big.

TuxedoJunction · 30/04/2022 19:12

👍 thank you for the tip @Scottsforsure281

TaffyandTeenyTaffy · 30/04/2022 19:22

I was going to suggest a similar style to the boohoo one, which is lovely ... sorry I cant seem to do a link, but have a look on Dolly and Dotty website I have just bought the Darlene which is a very flattering shape.

ittakes2 · 30/04/2022 19:29

I unfort also have a massive tummy after c section for twins. For special occasions I buy dresses that have a dress insert underneath and floaty dress on top. There is one dress I have which has a cape shape over the dress as part of the dress and it drapes over my tummy and hides it.
