Dress for a wedding - hate my tummy

I need a dress for a family wedding. I generally dislike shopping but today was the worst ever...I just hate my tummy area and feel like nothing suits me. I'm a UK size 12/14, always had a bit of a tum but nothing major. Since my c section it has been awful! Anyway, I just feel like I've no idea what to buy that might look OK...

What style of dress helps to 'flatter' this kind of shape?

Like this - I have these in different colours for weddings - if you google the style I have in the past got them for around £110 from other website stores. Gina Bacconi Lariah Chiffon Overlay Shift Dress, Coral at John Lewis & Partners

Bombshell dresses, if you are not flat chested?

Thank you all! I will return to let you know what I get!

Tummy skimming elasticated drop waist dresses, so no digging in?
I wouldn't worry about whether it's a maxi, in some ways that gives you the option of having it shortened to the perfect length to suit you.

Something like this....

I love this too, but you'd need to be feeling brave to wear it!

Have a look on YouTube Melissa Murell. She actually wears a tummy pouch and shows you what to wear to disguise it. Game changer for me. I'm a size 10, narrow shoulders but a wobbly tummy...

Op, as an aside - if you do have diastasis recti - really common after pregnancy, it’s really easy to tell if you look it up. It’s when the abdominal muscles have parted leaving a gap. I had a 3 finger gap 😱 but 6-8 weeks of the right exercises- again nhs website I think - and it was almost gone.

Great thread - I'm 5'3 and have a summer wedding coming up. Can't find anything I like. I hate my knees and my tummy and maxi dresses make me look super short. Wedding is DH family and all the women are super polished blond bombshells. I always feel frumpy/scruffy around them.

PinkPanther50 · 09/05/2022 21:49

Here for the advice! Family wedding in July. I only ever wear jeans or denim shorts and I have to wear a frock for the wedding. I hate my fat tummy and stumpy plump legs! Every dress I’ve tried on so far makes me look frumpy 🙄

Chichi London do dresses fitted at the top, and the skirt comes out at the waist ?
all different styles
get a size UP as they are small made
also DLSB do lovely dresses which are flattering

WeOnlyTalkAboutBruno · 09/05/2022 21:56

Similar issues here 🙋🏻‍♀️ 5’3 with a c section overhang. I also have quite broad shoulders so can’t be doing with this Bardot style everything. And my bingo wings prefer a sleeve…

I do like a skater dress.

Haribo16 · 09/05/2022 23:20

Loopytiles does that mean you fixed your diastatis recti, if so any advice about how to do it? Not up for surgery though. Tia

Ooh, I do like the Boohoo one on P1

Another who has just discovered the M&S shapewear slip - much more comfy for a longer day than the shape pants.

everyonebutme · 10/05/2022 07:09

The dresses you've been recommended look lovely and would suit your shape but I think you might find the length an issue (I'm only 5 ft and this is a major issue for me with dresses).

I think a shutter dress is good at disguising the midriff.
