What do you think about this Boden dress?

For reference, I'm 35 with a toddler and a small baby.

This would be my first Boden dress and they are not cheap.

My husband said it looks beautiful and classy, but I'm worried that it just looks great on the model. This would be my first Boden dress and they are not cheap.

I prefer the denim version. Much more practical with young kids too.

summerdrinks · 30/04/2022 13:19

I really like it - buy it. If you don't like once you've tried it on, simply return it.

isthismylifenow · 30/04/2022 13:26

I prefer the blue one, but it's a lovely dress of you have the shape for it. I definitely don't use this style, I think it would make me look big on the hips.

Think about cost per wear. Would you be buying it for an occasion or to wear more frequently?

3peassuit · 30/04/2022 13:28

I like the detail on the waist and the length is good but the neckline wouldn’t work on anyone over a 34b.

bluebell34567 · 30/04/2022 13:35

reviews dont look very good.

NotMeNoNo · 30/04/2022 13:43

It's a lovely dress, just check if you need a different/racerback bra with the narrow shoulders. You could always swap for a different belt.
Well done for finding a cotton dress in a plain colour!

Clymene · 30/04/2022 13:45

When would you wear it? It just looks like something you'd wear to a garden party or for a grown up afternoon going to a gallery and afternoon tea.

It's not something you could wear on a trip to the park or the beach. It would make me really stressed wearing that with a toddler and baby about.

nearlyspringyay · 30/04/2022 13:51

What's it for? I think if you are looking at Boden, you'll regret it.

ArabeI · 30/04/2022 14:11

The ecru dress is better than the denim. I like the neckline, but the length might be something to consider (I can't see model height) as it looks very long. Reviews seem to suggest sizing down.

ArabeI · 30/04/2022 14:13

I haven't looked at the dresses properly, but it was trying to recommend a navy midi, tie-waisted dress (the navy I like) which might be nice, depending on what you want it for.

josil · 30/04/2022 14:15

I think it's nice OP but a little plain and safe. It is a nice dress though and I agree would look classy - maybe a bright bag or lipstick to make it interesting

KirstenBlest · 30/04/2022 14:50

Beautiful dress but not a great colour if you have a toddler.

I don't like the Uniqlo one.

thenightsky · 30/04/2022 15:59

Ithinkitsadoughnut · 30/04/2022 11:28

That dress is lovely. There is a discount code for 20 percent off - GTPT works, I just tried it. Not buying just like a discount 😀

I just tried that and it rejects the code at the very last part of checkout.

DSGR · 30/04/2022 16:13

I have dozens of Boden dresses and they mostly last a long time after repeated washing. Try it on in two sizes as they can really vary, make sure you’re using a 10-20% off code and get free returns. The returns process is really simple

cormorant5 · 30/04/2022 16:39

What are your upper arms like?
Do you have a short jacket (slightly above waist) in yellow or contrast for cooler evenings?

Carbiesdreamhouse · 30/04/2022 16:42

I guess it disguised baby sick but it'd have sticky finger prints all over it in seconds in this toddler household. The colour would also make me look very washed out.

Candleabra · 30/04/2022 16:42

I think that dress would only work with good quality fabric and quality cut and finish. From what I hear of Boden these days they have none of these.
I like the dress but fear you will be disappointed.

lljkk · 01/05/2022 05:58

Total agree with advice to order, try it on, and send it back if it doesn't suit you.

I'm considered tall (5'8") & slim & that dress would look crap on me... Not right for hour-glass figures. I struggle to imagine it looking good on anyone. it's just about flattering from the back. Borderline horrid from front. I imagine it only suiting someone very petite.

Would it get wrinkled instantly?

SleepPleaseee · 01/05/2022 07:08

Looks OK. They do easy returns, they give you the sticky label etc rather than having to find a printer. I have just returned a few things from there as they made me look incredibly frumpy though.

liveforsummer · 01/05/2022 08:19

Id steer well clear of that colour with a toddler personally. I think it's nice but you'd need a darker skin tone and hair like the model to pull it off and I'm not sure it's an every day dress (again due to colour) which wound out me off at £100. But it, try on and return then get one off eBay if you like it.

Fitterbyfifty · 01/05/2022 08:35

I love it. Quite tempted myself.

Shellingbynight · 01/05/2022 08:52

I love it. The only way to find out if it works for you is to try - you can easily return it if you don't like it.

Nap1983 · 01/05/2022 08:58

To be honest I think it’s horrendous, very old fashioned especially for a 35yr old. Tbf I find all the Boden stuff pretentious, mumsy, boring.

LookItsMeAgain · 01/05/2022 09:05

MrsWateringcan · 30/04/2022 12:02

Uniqlo have some similar things which are cheaper and still cotton, eg

www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/product/women-cotton-shirring-sleeveless-dress-446833.html

That looks nothing like the dress the OP posted....apart from it being...oh...a dress....

sleepwhenyouaredead · 01/05/2022 09:14

The reviews aren't great and Boden design quality is poor - Ok for pyjamas etc but the one dress I bought was so badly cut and frumpy I have never bought another one
