Wearing two watches

cashmerecardigans · 28/04/2022 21:00

want to start wearing a smartwatch of some sort, either apple or Fitbit, so I can track exercise, heart etc.
The thing is I have a really lovely proper watch that I wear all the time. I can't work out how to wear both without looking ridiculous.
Does anyone do this? Or have any ideas how to make it look less weird?

I do this! I don't care it if looks odd.

Fluckle · 28/04/2022 21:05

I do it for exactly the same reasons. Slim fitbit worn with face inside my wrist and watch on the outside. In the few years I've been doing it, only one person has commented. I don't particularly like trackers but they serve a purpose and my watch has sentimental value.

cashmerecardigans · 28/04/2022 21:06

Ok so this is sounding positive. So you wear on the same wrist?

I wouldn’t really. I have a daily watch which I wear to work etc and a lovely watch mil gave me which I keep for when I’m having a day out/going out somewhere nice. It makes me feel dressed up whenever I wear it!

Buy the Oura Ring, problem solved
ouraring.com

cashmerecardigans · 28/04/2022 21:14

@MatchaTea thank you, that looks interesting. I've not heard of that so will have a look

I have an Oura ring - they’re fab!

Tinkletwat · 28/04/2022 21:18

One on each wrist, makes it handy when I need to check the time and I can use either wrist Smile

RoseDog · 28/04/2022 21:20

I wear a Fitbit on one wrist and a watch and bracelet on the other, I always wore a Fitbit but got a pretty watch and bracelet as 40th birthday presents earlier this year so wear them all, I don't care if it looks odd!

MatchaTea · 28/04/2022 21:21

A new features will come out soon that measures oxygen levels as well.

It looks really nice too.
I alternate between middle (night) and index finger (day) . I remove it for boxing , weightlifting and then add the activity on the app. Plenty of features, including period prediction.

You can't unless you wear long sleeves.

givememarmite · 28/04/2022 21:26

I also have a slim Fitbit on one wrist and a watch on the other. Not had anyone comment on it yet 😬

Coriandersucks · 28/04/2022 21:28

That oura ring looks great - I wear a chunky ugly garmin watch and desperate to wear my lovely silver and gold watches now just sat in my jewellery box.

AlternativePerspective · 28/04/2022 21:32

I have an Apple Watch on my right hand and an analogue tactile watch on my left hand (I am VI).

I use my Apple Watch primarily as a fitness tracker/alert device etc etc etc and my analogue watch to tell the time. Plus my Apple Watch is on my right hand because I have an ICD and. Where possible it is advised to keep such devices as far away from them as possible.

People can think what they like. I don’t care.

ColonelNobbyNobbs · 28/04/2022 21:34

Alternative I have an ICD and didn’t know that! I wear my fit bit on left wrist should I change??

It looks amazing. I have the silver one.

They send you a free sizing kit, so you test/wear a plastic ring for a few days, then once you have decided, they ring arrive very quickly.
The ring needs to be snug so that it doesn't turn or come off when you wash hands, but not so tight that you can't remove it without struggling.

cashmerecardigans · 28/04/2022 21:50

Thanks so much everyone. IM's EDI is you going to look at the ring. I only really want the watch for health reasons as opposed to a watch/text messages etc so if a ring can do that, that's great.
Equally so good to hear so many people wear two and no one comments on it Wink

That should read I'm definitely going to....

I wear Fitbit on one wrist and proper watch on the other (Fitbit screen is too small to read with my bad eyesight so I need a watch to tell the time!). I doubt anyone notices

MatchaTea · 28/04/2022 22:22

A warning for the UK based MNetters. Thanks to Brexit , there is now a custom tax if you buy the Oura Ring, roughly 50-60 pounds, so take it into account.

Fluckle · 29/04/2022 07:23

I wear both on the same wrist tbh. I've generally got hair bobbles on the other one.

I've looked at Oura rings, i could have one on my right hand. However they look pretty chunky and I like to lift weights so firstly I'm worried about damaging it, though I do wear gloves anyway. Secondly I already have to take my eternity ring off because it's snug and my fingers swell after big lifts. Wouldn't Oura, which has to be quite snug from the sound of it, do the same? Does anyone who has one on here lift with it on? @MatchaTea any insight here please?

MatchaTea · 29/04/2022 07:57

@Fluckle I remove the ring for weightlifting, boxing and sauna (very hot 94-96 degrees) , but when I get to the changing room, I put it back on and add the workout on app. Depending on the feel, I will put it on middle or index finger.
I keep it on for the HIIT classes, usually in the middle finger, and lifting the weights isn't an issue.

There are people in the oura community who keep it on for weightlifting .

The ring is obviously bigger than a wedding band, but it doesn't feel chunky to me.

Fluckle · 29/04/2022 08:42

Thanks @MatchaTea, that's really helpful. I will investigate further.

chloechloe · 29/04/2022 09:55

The Oura ring is very sturdy so I doubt weightlifting with gloves would damage it. I find mine difficult to get off in the morning when my fingers are a little swollen after sleeping (same with wedding and engagement rings). But like a PP said, they send you a free sizing kit so you can try out different sizes on different fingers and see what works best for you.

Charrin10 · 29/04/2022 15:22

I'm also interested in the oura ring after seeing the comments. I've had a Fitbit and an Apple Watch and I just don't like wearing them ( I like nice pretty watches) so this does sound idea. Reviews look good but mostly say it's a sleeping monitor (which tbh I don't have any trouble with my asleep) but I do want to track more my activity / worried abit about my heart rate and actually motivate myself to do more exercise. Will this ring actually do that? I do like swimming and I believe you can wear it whilst swimming but not sure how it would monitor that?
