How to fix this 90s haircut?

TonkaBean22 · 23/04/2022 14:25

I had a long blunt cut - fell to below my boobs. Asked for a trim and a ‘little’ shaping around my face, and ended up losing about 6 inches and with some sort of feathered flicky layers and with a lot of body lost. I feel like I’m back in the 90s.

I really hate it - I have a lot of hair, but it’s very fine; so losing any weight from it makes it behave crazily. It’s really short and choppy at the front but long and quite straight at the back. Pics attached to show.

I’ve booked a cut at another salon to fix it, but I’m not sure what to ask for: I guess I will need to go shorter and blunter, but the layers at the front are so short and flicky, so I’m worried it’ll be chin length.

I’m not interested in going back to the salon I went to - it wasn’t my usual one, only had one stylist (and an expensive one at that!) and I’m now regretting it sorely.

A couple of people have told me it looks weird from the sides, so I don’t think it’s just me imagining things 🙁

Well the fabulous condition should get you through but could you bear to have it levelled up?

Justkeeppedaling · 23/04/2022 16:46

I have to say it just looks like long hair to me. It's fine. If you really hate it, though I really can't see what there is to hate, can you tie it up until it's grown a bit and you can have it cut again?

orangeisthenewpuce · 23/04/2022 16:51

Nothing 90's about it. It looks nice.

TonkaTruckduck · 23/04/2022 16:52

Sure it's grand, not 90s at all. By the time you've washed it it'll be completely different anyway.

Oblomov22 · 23/04/2022 16:55

It looks fabulous. Healthy and shiny.

PinktoothbrushBluetoothbrush · 23/04/2022 16:58

It looks fine, leave it rather than loosing any more length. Beautiful hair

hairdisaster22 · 23/04/2022 16:59

I honestly think it’s beautiful OP - it just looks like lovely glossy long hair in good condition… nothing 90s about it at all! The front layers will grown out soon enough and then you can just get a blunt trim.

Fedupsotired · 23/04/2022 17:00

I'll swap you my fizzy mess! Looks fine to me

ClafoutisSurprise · 23/04/2022 17:00

Looks good and I don’t see the 90s thing at all. I think it’s just more layered than you were expecting? If that’s it, I’d just wait - in a few more months/trims you can get it to where you wanted it without doing anything drastic now.

Bagelsandbrie · 23/04/2022 17:00

Nothing wrong or 90s about that at all (90s are back in fashion anyway!)…! Just looks like lovely smooth long hair.

Fedupsotired · 23/04/2022 17:01

If you really don't like it then take a couple of inches off the bottom. Does your hair grow quickly, The front of my hair never seems to 🙄

Echobelly · 23/04/2022 17:01

It may not be what you're used to, but it's not short or especially 90s. But I get it can be annoying to have loose bits around the front (got my husband to cut mine from boob length to collarbone in lockdown, but he managed to cut it to shoulder length!) so you may have to get some clips/slides to deal with that if you like to tie your hair back.

WhatsitWiggle · 23/04/2022 17:07

The choppy bits are current shaping trends, my hairdresser does this too. I'm used to a more blended diagonal from shortest point to longest point so if this is what you were expecting too, then you'll need to explain to the new salon.

Organictangerine · 23/04/2022 17:10

It looks lovely OP. From what you said I was expecting something like this 😆

Same here! Or the famous Rachel from friends layered lob thing.

hoomae · 23/04/2022 17:17

It looks really nice.
Doesn't look 90's at all.

artisanbread · 23/04/2022 17:21

I think it looks nice but then my hair looks like this so I might be biased!

EarringsandLipstick · 23/04/2022 17:52

Sorry to be direct OP but I can't agree with PPs

That cut is entirely shapeless, weirdly layered & looks flat.

It needs to be cut shorter, with more defined layers I think.

Cstring · 23/04/2022 18:10

Honestly it’s lovely, it’s not90’s at all.
Now I had a 90’s cut that I didn’t ask for, that was completely a very short flicky Rachel cut, yours isn’t at all like that.

ThackeryBinks · 23/04/2022 18:16

Your hair looks beautiful!

ChrisPriss · 23/04/2022 18:21

Your hair looks lovely!

ImFree2doasiwant · 23/04/2022 18:28

Have you washed and dried ityourself? Id do that first. Your hair is lovely, great condition.

LadyCatStark · 23/04/2022 18:32

It looks great, I’d leave it to grow out a bit before you get it fixed. I was also expecting the Rachel cut 😂

GreenClock · 23/04/2022 18:40

I was expecting Rachel from Friends or Ginger Spice. I’m not seeing 1990s. And your hair is in such good condition too!

LetitiaLeghorn · 23/04/2022 18:45

Your hair looks long, healthy and shiny. I don't see the problem. But if you don't like it, it's well long enough to have a couple of inches off to level up and no one will notice.
