How to fix this 90s haircut?

I had a long blunt cut - fell to below my boobs. Asked for a trim and a ‘little’ shaping around my face, and ended up losing about 6 inches and with some sort of feathered flicky layers and with a lot of body lost. I feel like I’m back in the 90s.

I really hate it - I have a lot of hair, but it’s very fine; so losing any weight from it makes it behave crazily. It’s really short and choppy at the front but long and quite straight at the back. Pics attached to show.

I’ve booked a cut at another salon to fix it, but I’m not sure what to ask for: I guess I will need to go shorter and blunter, but the layers at the front are so short and flicky, so I’m worried it’ll be chin length.

I’m not interested in going back to the salon I went to - it wasn’t my usual one, only had one stylist (and an expensive one at that!) and I’m now regretting it sorely.

A couple of people have told me it looks weird from the sides, so I don’t think it’s just me imagining things 🙁

I think she gave you exactly what you asked for. it's nice, don't see the problem.

It looks great Op. the face framing layers really suit your face shape and it looks bouncy. But if you dont like it you might need to take it up to the shortest layer length.

TonkaBean22 · 23/04/2022 19:04

Thanks for all the nice messages guys. Surprised people don’t think it’s so bad!

I use Label M Honey + Oat shampoo and conditioner if anyone interested in the supposed shiny!

But I really can’t get on board with the layers: I am going away tomorrow for two weeks, then I’ll get it done recut when I’m back. I’m okay with losing some length (I had a bob for years and had just finished growing it out…grrrr).

The shorter bits at the front are flopping about and curling up everywhere and driving me nuts. I can just about pull them back into a ponytail for now.

I will probably ask for something like the attached image. Do people think that will work?

Yes, OP, I think that would be lovely!

I seem to be on my own but I think the layers are awful, you have lots of mismatched lengths. I don't either see the glossiness that everyone else is raving about.

It really needs a good cut and shape.

The difference between yours and that picture is that yours is surely much longer

Come now, the OP’s hair has a lovely satin sheen of a follicle unravaged through heavy bleaching, heat or dye.

It’s in lovely, natural condition. Anything shinier than this could only be from the addition of a fake silicone-soaked spray of some description.

I do agree the cut is terrible, though. It looks like lots of different length chunks.

The long Bob you have planned will be lovely and a good point from which to grow it back.

I think that’s the cut she’s going to get to get rid of the weirdly chunky different lengths she has now.

I don't know if you need to lose that much length. You just need to get rid of the bottom couple of inches to make it blunt again. That would still leave the front bits, but they should be able to be blended in after a few weeks.

Have you washed it yet? Has that made any difference to how it sits?
