Can this be dressed up for a wedding?

Struggling to find anything I like. Square necks suit me and I like this colour/pattern. Can I make it look smart enough for a wedding guest outfit? It’s a uk hotel wedding if that makes a difference.

Lots of women wearing similar at the last wedding I went to. I’d wear it.

PlayingGrownUp · 17/04/2022 15:09

Looks great! I don’t see any issue with it at all.

JillPole123 · 17/04/2022 15:11

I hope so as I am also wearing something similar as a wedding guest this summer!

Unrelated to your dress selection - I am hoping that weddings in general are going to become more casual. Seems that many people, who probably usually look lovely, struggle with the specific type of formal wear expected at weddings - I know I definitely do! Avoiding white should be the end of the matter Grin

LookItsMeAgain · 17/04/2022 15:37

It does look a bit on the casual side, if I'm honest.

I've done a quick search on the Next website and think that these might be more wedding guest attire. None of them are terribly expensive either.

I think it's fine. Decent shoes and bag, it will look great.

SillySallySassySausage · 17/04/2022 15:46

I went to a hotel based wedding last week (around 80 guests) and most women were wearing similar, lots in flat shoes, not a single full hat and only three were wearing fascinators. The rest had nothing in their hair at all.
Even bride and groom's mothers were wearing much more casual attire than the traditional MOTB get ups.
Groomsmen/male family were all in matching suits but several ditched them as soon as the wedding breakfast was over. Other male attendees gave suit jackets and ties a miss.

I like this new world order!

Hairybaker · 17/04/2022 16:10

Thanks all. And thanks for the Next recommendations but they are all a bit clingy for me, I want something a bit looser/more forgiving around the tummy!

It's a bit drab imo. Have you seen it in real life? Maybe with some bright sandals or a bright bag?

I don't like any of those Next ones - they look quite old fashioned to me.

NeedleNoodle3 · 17/04/2022 16:48

I think it would look nice and it looks very comfortable too. You could add a necklace, lipstick and paint your nails etc.

anotherbrewplease · 17/04/2022 16:53

I like it OP - will look great!

EmergencyPoncho · 17/04/2022 16:58

I just did a quick Google for square necked dresses, there are some nice ones on there. I can't upload photos for some reason. I think gold accessories would liven up that one though. And I agree with pp about the Next ones, I'm not keen.

lisavanderpumpscloset · 17/04/2022 17:00

It does look abit casual but you can dress it up with bag, shoes, hair, makeup etc

ColdSeptember · 17/04/2022 17:06

Those Next ones all look tight and uncomfortable to me; I'd feel miserable and self-conscious all day if I was wearing one of them. OP the dress you've chosen is lovely.

Goldengoosey · 17/04/2022 18:51

What about this. Bags of choice with what colour shoes and bags to team with polka dots

I have been browsing at M&S and found this: www.marksandspencer.com/polka-dot-square-neck-shirred-midaxi-dress/p/clp60542786?intid=mobile_app_pdp_share

Housetreecar · 17/04/2022 18:56

The Next dresses are awful. OP I love those kinds of dresses you posted and I think that they’re fine for a wedding. However, I don’t like the length of that one. I think you need it to be a bit longer, midaxi (awful name). With some strappy sandals on a slightly longer dress would be lovely

It's ok but it's a bit drab for a wedding imo

TolkiensFallow · 17/04/2022 20:18

I think it’ll be lovely. Those next ones are very figure hugging and not at all similar to the dress you’ve chosen. I always think a brand new dress looks a bit glammer than one that’s been through the wash aswell 😂

Nice accessories, hair and make up done, jobs a goodun!

aibutohavethisusername · 17/04/2022 20:34

I really like it.

NeedleNoodle3 · 17/04/2022 20:42

Plus you’ll be able to wear it often after the wedding.

Newmum110 · 17/04/2022 20:50

With your hair and makeup done (not presuming professionally or anything) and nice shoes the dress will be lovely.

BlueBellsArePretty · 17/04/2022 21:00

It's a lovely dress, what about adding a belt for a little definition in the waist area?

stevalnamechanger · 17/04/2022 21:04

Yes ! Get a hat band

nzeire · 17/04/2022 21:24

Love it!!!

Germolenequeen · 17/04/2022 21:39

I think it's a bit drab too OP 😏
