Do any hairdresser cut hair properly?

I got my hair cut last week. I've long hair and she just brushed it and cut it. No sections, just one line of cutting. It's all uneven and looks like shite. Is this normal?

I am very happy with the walk in unisex barbers I go to. He does an excellent job all for £8 dry cut even includes layering so I always give the pound tip. I am also impatient with hairdressers and do not enjoy the time it takes. I prefer to spend the money on a monthly back massage and pedicure instead.

@ClaudiusTheGod

I found that once my hair went white at a relatively young age, my hairdresser wasn’t bothered any more. There’s no interest in helping my dry, coarse, slightly curly hair to look its best. Ive been consigned to the Old Lady demographic.
I feel your pain! I also have silver white, slightly curly hair. Up until now my hairdresser of 4 years has given me some good cuts, until Friday. He was also working on a clients head of foils, so washed, trimmed mine and dried mine in under 20 mins. A disaster! When I rewashed it the curl drying hid one side layered shorted than the other and the back longer than the front not the other way round. I’m really upset, he’s likely to be offended if I complain and that would be goodbye to any future good cuts. I’ve 8 weeks to think about it.

@ClaudiusTheGod Oh dear that's very annoying. I've been in that position where they get either complacent or bored with doing your hair - I have grey wavy curly hair too. I sometimes just won't go back to the stylist. But how can you tell you'll find someone else who'll give you a good cut?

You could go back and discuss it with him ask him what went wrong - was it "not his day" etc
You could spend the next few weeks putting your efforts into looking for someone else - ask around. Ask people who seem to have a good cut where they go. I look at the websites of salons - do they talk about cutting hair or is it mainly about colour and techniques. Reviews are a good indicator but they can also be deceptive

Good luck with it

That was for @Beebumble2 too.

Thanks, it’s difficult as friends also go to him and he mixes socially in the local area!

@Beebumble2 it sounds like you need to discuss it with him. Or just say you want a change of hair salon for a while.

I'm a qualified hairdresser trained over 40 years ago in accurate and precise cutting.
I'm totally baffled by the cutting these days. I can't seem to get anyone that can cut even layers or make sure the outline dosent have graduation .
I see they just chops bits off here and there then curl it to hide the mess.
