Well, you wear it well! Grin

Sickoffamilydrama · 05/04/2022 18:33

Thanks Remus and typo had DS nearly 6 years ago.

What might help OP is if you are happy take a photo (anonymised) it would be easier to work out what suits you.

I don't know really, I'm 45 and would say wear smart black jeans, heels & a pretty / sexy top but I haven't been to a really posh bar or a club since a while pre Covid...

I've seen photos & videos of the student nurses at work (aged 18 to 20s) who go out out (lucky them) and they really dress up in sparkly bodycon dresses & heels, nice hair & makeup... the lot.
This is in a large Southern English coastal town popular with stag n hens & has lots of students.

SommerTen · 05/04/2022 20:18

I really wouldn't wear trainers as certain venues may not let you in.
Also go with smart jeans that don't have any rips or too many faded areas.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 05/04/2022 20:21

I can't think of many/any places in Birmingham that have a no-trainers dress code.

SommerTen · 05/04/2022 20:25

I do have some basic slim fitting ankle grazer black trousers in a size 16 that are stretchy and look good with heels & all kinds of tops, about £15 from M&S trouser section actually.
You could get in anywhere in a pair of those with a good top & heels or even nice flats.

On (what is left of) the high street I find River Island tops are good for going out in.

Online there is so much choice. I like the clothes on the Simply Be app especially as they're shown on curvier models.

SommerTen · 05/04/2022 20:26

It's good that Birmingham has a more relaxed dress code then. Not like my town.

@evilharpy mine are these

They were recommended by another mumsnetter and I really like them.

Mimijamroll · 05/04/2022 20:58

On a night out recently most of the women in the bar were wearing dresses, sometimes with DM type boots, sometimes with heeled boots. And some biker jackets.

I wore jeans and a t shirt and trainers , but I'd say I was in the minority.

Beachlovingirl · 05/04/2022 21:07

I do think a biker jacket is a good investment.

I have this one and I bought it 7 years ago with my first pay check after returning to work, after being a stay at home mum while my children were little.

I’ve worn it so much it’s never been an expensive indulgence but there are loads out there.

I also have a good selection of all saints boots that again I have had for years and I take to the shoe repair shop for soles and heels. Worth every penny.

Sickoffamilydrama · 05/04/2022 21:14

There's a few different faux leather trousers in the next sale including some very reasonable ones there some nice mango ones in a size 18 which would probably fit as they usually come up small.

evilharpy · 05/04/2022 22:39

@Beachlovingirl love them - I might have to treat myself to a pair.

Also we are leather jacket twins, I love my Cargo and my All Saints boots too, perhaps you're my spirit animal.

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone for your tips, and thank you for sharing your wonderful going out outfits.

I bought a long black pleated skirt from H&M, a long pleated dress from there too. I also bought a biker jacket. It's not expensive as I'm not sure I'll like it but it looks nice.

So, what shoes with the dress and skirt??

Sickoffamilydrama · 14/04/2022 23:14

Brogues/ loafers/ boots but I don't do heels love is to short to hobble around when they is dancing to be done 💃

Depending on the skirt a t shirt or cami?

Toponeniceone · 15/04/2022 02:13

I agree! Would a sandal be acceptable?

Sickoffamilydrama · 15/04/2022 09:48

Sandals could work too, when you think about it how often do you notice what friends are wearing on their feet?
