What does a size 16, 45 year old wear out out these days?

OP- a flattering style is based on your shape. Are you apple, pear, hourglass, invert triangle or other? Any features you'd like to accentuate? What features are you wanting to hide? This will determine what styles will flatter the most.

Thank you so much for taking the time. I don't like any of those clothes at all . I am clearly not fashionable at all. I am a pear shape, so big bum and now thanks to c sections a horrible stomach too. Aaarggghhh. Why did I eat all the food???

Birmingham is very varied. What’s the venue? Somewhere like The Jam House will be very different to Digbeth for example.

I like smart black jeggings and those long "shirred" tops? Area over boobs is like elasticated then the bottom flows. I like the look on me as I'm too heavy, so anything that doesn't pull in under the boob makes me look even huger than I am, yet I don't want tight over my stomach either.

I usually wear them with a light blazer, a long necklace and flat shoes.

I can't say I'm the trendiest of people, but I get comments that I look nice and I feel comfortable in that sort of outfit

Interesting you say this. I have wanted a maxi dress for a while but they all just seem to make me look pregnant and like a ship in full sale. I saw one at the weekend and it had that sort of top which I thought would hate but I loved the print so thought I would try it with a view to wearing a cardigan over the top half. It's actually really flattering!

No venues in mind. Just a bar crawl and end up somewhere. Just need to not stand out or look frumpy.

You need to know the area you’re out in as PP said Birmingham has a lot of different areas to go out and people dress differently in all of them;

I'm the same size as you, I recently wore out a pair of black, boot cut jeans with a mid heel boot and a nice black, sparkly bat wing jumper. Not sure it would be classed as 'fashionable' but it suited and complimented my figure without looking like mutton.

I can’t move on from jeans (maybe jeggings) and a nice top either. It is so easy, comfy & suits me.

I feel if I go all floral dressy that I am just being a sheep, it doesn’t actually suit me (being short and wide). I have tried many and now reverted to finding flattering nice tops.

I think I agree! April is a funny time. Not quite warm enough. Might have to get a new jacket.

I am interested in the fact you wear bodysuits and yet they don’t look super tight - which is one of the reasons I would have avoided them.

Thanks bagels the peach one is very stretchy I have tried bodysuits that don't work apparently other stories do and Reiss if I'm between a M and L say I will always size up.
It could be my body length is average who knows 🤷‍♀️ my legs whilst not massively long 31 " could be what makes me slightly taller???

I'll have to measure the length of the Bodysuits see if there's an optimum length, I've done that with Jean/trouser rise and know what suits me ( can see I'll be carrying a tape measure round when shopping).

I have a pair of black magic trousers and these go with anything and everything but are more dressy than jeans - and are very slimming. I also have a pair of leather look magic trousers which are more “dressy”.

What about trousers or jeans or leather joggers (like the ones from hush) and a silky top and a blazer? You can remove the blazer when you want to but if you keep it on it’s not like keeping a coat on.

Where did you get your leather look magic trousers? I have "normal" magic trousers but have never seen leather ones.

I was dubious about those shirred tops at first but now I'm an absolute convert. I've always liked the look of tops that pull in under the boob (empire line?), but as I'm quite big chested I've never found ones that fit. The shirred bit stretches, so no worry about fitting, then it gives me a nice shape too

OP - if you don't know the venue, then jeans would be fine almost everywhere. I generally prefer a dress though, maybe a shortish one with black tights and trainers, or a longer one with bare legs or nude fishnets and trainers or boots.

I most definitely am in the worst place as well around my belly button, I need to loose at least 5 inches off to be healthy since I had nearly Ds 6 years ago but haven't tried hard enough can't shift it.
