How did I survive without Vinted in my life!?

Very late to the game, but it's bloody wonderful - a Baukjen top for £4, a pure silk Whistles dress for £35, an Esprit top for £1.50, all in excellent condition. Just fantastic!

I bought a Zara winter jacket for £25 but after wearing it once I’ve realised the zip is faulty which is clearly why the seller wanted shot of it

NotMeekNotObedient · 04/04/2022 20:48

Love it. Discover it about 6m ago. Definitely search brands.

Had a few misses - stuff that's stained, ripped.

I got a refund both times and the seller didn't ask me to return but... yer don't feel the buyer protection fee really does much for the buyer!

I still love a charity shop rummage but Vinted is great when you say need a new coat and can have your pick from hundreds!

Really good for kids bits!

inmyslippers · 04/04/2022 21:30

t... yer don't feel the buyer protection fee really does much for the buyer!

^^ I bought some trainers and forgot about them. 10 days later vinted issued me a refund without me asking cause seller hasn't dispatched.

WingBingo · 04/04/2022 22:29

I have a few high-end high street items to sell.

Makes me sad to see something I paid £300 for can sell for £30.

Does, however, make me want to buy stuff.

Tomikka · 04/04/2022 23:10

@NancyPickford

For those of you who have sold on Vinted - how does the payment work? Do you only post the item to the buyer when the money appears in your bank account?
The payment shows as confirmed (it’s not even sold until it’s paid for), but Vinted hold the funds

Once the buyer acknowledges receipt and (does not make any complaints) the money is released

Under eBay the money goes through except for new sellers, in which case the money is held for a period of time in a similar manner to Vinted. But once you are established as an eBay seller your money comes through:

Vinted - buyer buys & pays, but Vinted holds the money
eBay - buyer buys, but might not pay, especially with an auction. Buyer has 2 days to pay. Once paid unless the seller has a restriction the funds are released

Vinted postage - The seller prints off a ‘free’ label, unless the seller has opted to manage their own postage options. The buyer has paid Vinted to cover the postage

eBay postage - the seller has to buy postage. Note that eBay also charge their fee on the postage amount, so the seller needs to have taken into account extra eBay fees

eBay fees - eBay take a cut of the full item and postage amount (this is because sellers used to evade fees by selling the item for 99p and charging the real cost as extra postage)

Vinted fees - Vinted do not take a cut from the seller but from the buyer. I assume that as postage labels are ‘free’ to the buyer that Vinted are paying a bulk contract rate with carriers and may be getting a cut of the postage charged to the buyer

@AHungryCaterpillar

Wow! I can’t believe the prices tbh I’ve seen thing that was sold on eBay for double/triple the price
On Vinted it’s a ‘fixed’ price - but you can offer less

On eBay it’s an auction, unless set for. ‘Buy now’

So on eBay I’ll list for how much I’m willing to sell an item, but perhaps hope to make more when others bid against each other

On Vinted I ‘guess’ a price which recently I might have under priced an item - I listed it, then within a couple of hours I received one query with questions and then half an hour later it was sold to someone else.
Perhaps I sold it at the ‘right’ price and was lucky with a quick sale, or perhaps I could have made more money on it - however I sold that single item for just over the total price of the bundle that I had bought it in - so I had made my money back with profit to follow

NotJustACigar · 05/04/2022 05:43

Love it for both buying and selling. Selling is so much easier than ebay and you actually get the full amount you sell for as fees are paid by the buyer.

RazorstormUnicorn · 05/04/2022 08:30

I've had a jumper, cardigan and three amazing dresses worn for weddings/my birthday meals and got loads of compliments.

The Reiss dress for my birthday was £12 and although clearly worn before it still looked great on me and I can't afford to buy that brand new.

I also got an Adrianna Papell dress for about the same price and it's in great condition. I'd often pay more than what the seller is asking!

Just one irritation that I bought something that had been listed for months and it has been sold elsewhere but I got my money back. It doesn't put me off using Vinted. Its still better for both my pocket and the planet to buy second hand and I don't expect each item will be 100% perfect for me. 5 out of 6 is a good hit rate so far though.

waitingformygirl · 05/04/2022 08:53

I love Vinted as it's much easier to sell on. My new thing is only allowing myself to buy something from my vinted balance so I need to sell a couple of bits first.

BananaPlants · 05/04/2022 09:36

Please can someone explain to me how the postage works, as a seller?

How would I know how much it costs to post a single light item, as compared to a thick jumper/jacket etc? Is it to do with size, as in, I need to wrap it up as small as possible?

I have read through the information on there but just can’t figure it out Blush I like the idea of just printing the label (then I can post it without buying stamps, I think) but can’t figure out how Vinted will know how much the postage will be..

JudgeRindersMinder · 05/04/2022 12:33

This thread has just kicked my butt into action to list a load of things I’d forgotten to return and found in the back of the wardrobe!

cannaethink · 05/04/2022 12:45

I’ve sold a couple of things and found it straightforward. And I like that there’s no seller fees.
As a buyer though, there’s not enough filters! On eBay you can filter by material, whether it’s got a hood, a zip, all sorts, but there’s pretty much just colour on Vinted. Lots of really rubbish photos, and tiny descriptions too. I’ve still bought a few things though, but more filters would make it easier!

skyeisthelimit · 05/04/2022 12:57

Bananaplants you can select the shipping options that you want to use, for example you can turn off ones that don't have a local drop off point to you. I have turned off 2 where the nearest point is 20 miles away.

The buyer pays for postage so they select the option that they want to use.

If you look at the shipping when listing, it will tell you what weight the category goes up to, so for example, Hermes is small up to 0.5kg, medium is up to 1.99kg and large would be over 2kg.

You do have to weigh some things to make sure that you get the correct category. If people select Royal Mail it can be a faff because their small size is different to Hermes. If you use Royal Mail then you do need to take it to the Post Office or it wont be tracked and you have to upload the tracking information to prove you have sent it.

A lot of people choose the cheapest Hermes option which is for them to collect from a collection point, or otherwise people use Hermes to the door. (From my personal experience as a seller).

I find it so easy to send, just print the label and drop to the local shop for Hermes collections.

Well, I have tried and tried to sign up this morning.
No joy.
If the website is this inefficient, Im not excited.

When it asks me to add my phone No for confirmation it won't accept my perfectly valid number. I tried for half an hour then gave up.

beatrixpotterspencil · 05/04/2022 13:17

Attempted it via safari and google chrome, nothing.

No matter what combination i present my phone number, it won't respond, the page simply fades out and nothing actually connects.
If it wants to bully me into signing in via facebook it can suck my big toe.

It's an app. You need to download the app to use it. Don't think they have a website that it works on

AHungryCaterpillar · 05/04/2022 13:34

I use it on the web 🤷‍♀️ I had to put in my phone number as +44 7981000000 (like that otherwise it wouldn’t recognise it)

I am reporting this thread to MNHQ before any other unsuspecting MNers are affected and brainwashed.

Before reading it, I was happily living my life being only vaguely aware of the existence of Vinted.

I started reading the thread a couple of hours ago and I've already spent over £200 on there.

So... thanks Hmm

IEatChocolateForBreakfast · 05/04/2022 13:42

Also meant to ask if anyone has noticed an increase in the amount of fake merchandise on there lately.

Beware of dodgy usernames as well like 'Bozjs17262' I noticed lots of fake Chanel and Dior items on last night. All uploaded to new accounts with 0 feedback. They only upload 1-2 items and then another username is created so it doesn't look like they're flogging unlimited amounts. Crappy descriptions. Prices are more than you'd pay for a replica but far cheaper than the real deal. Not just one type of item like bags etc, but jewellery, shoes and clothes.

It's unlikely someone would chose to buy a Chanel item from there, but I have seen lots of designer fake items on it.

Saying all that I totally love Vinted and have bought and sold loads. Most recently a spur of the moment purchase at 4:30am because my DC woke in the night Confused

BananaPlants · 05/04/2022 16:11

Thank you @skyeisthelimit

MrsSpooner · 05/04/2022 18:31

@IEatChocolateForBreakfast I would never buy the type of brands that attract fakes from Vinted or EBay.

Having said that, I recently bought some Solomon SpeedCross trainers that may have been fakes - they were a bit different from my previous pair & fell apart after about 3 runs!

😂😂😂😂

Today I sold 4 out of the 6 items I listed this morning!

You as the seller choose a suitable size range, and by clicking for more details you get a list of which carriers / methods will be available to the buyer

Therefore you need to make sure that it would fit into the dimensions / weight limits and also that compensation will be suitable

Then once sold you get to print the appropriate label based on the option taken by the buyer

Tomikka · 05/04/2022 19:00

@BananaPlants

Going off on a little diversion ….. note that with Royal Mail you don’t need to buy stamps for normal postage either …. Just buy online and print a label

send.royalmail.com/

They used to be about 10p cheaper online than bought at the counter post office, but now are mostly the same price, with some sizes discounted

But you must make sure that you get your measurements and weight right, otherwise you end up under paying and get a grumpy buyer once they get a bill
If its borderline and you’re not sure then buy it online and print the label, then double check in the post office. If you underpaid then pay again at the counter (covering up your printed label) and cancel the online purchased postage

JudyGemstone · 05/04/2022 19:01

Love it for buying and selling!

I missed out on a Vivienne Westwood tote for £90 at the the weekend as I dithered for a day or two, still pissed off with myself 😒
