How did I survive without Vinted in my life!?

Very late to the game, but it's bloody wonderful - a Baukjen top for £4, a pure silk Whistles dress for £35, an Esprit top for £1.50, all in excellent condition. Just fantastic!

You just made me look on there again. Saw a dress that looked nice but was £30. The company it came from had dresses for less. I have had some bargains though.

SnowfallSnowball · 04/04/2022 14:07

I have purchased and sold stuff on there, it's pretty straightforward. I recently managed to bag some brand new ankle boots from Office for £10. However it is always best to use the filters and select 'new with tags' and select the brands. That is likely to throw out the 'tat'!

TruffleNoir · 04/04/2022 14:09

I was going to comment as above. I usually filter my results to "new with tags" or "new without tags" then sometimes very good depending on what I'm looking for.

I've sold a few things then used my balance to pay for new things.

I’m a big fan too. It is completely spoiling me for any other form of shopping - fancying a top in a certain colour and bringing up 100s of options to choose from feels like the way all shopping should be. I’ve bought way too much over the past couple of months but all for less than a couple of new things and often better quality than brands I can afford. My barely worn white stan smiths delivered for £7.50 and a chunky mustard cardigan I’ve worn every second day for weeks have been highlights.

NancyPickford · 04/04/2022 14:31

For those of you who have sold on Vinted - how does the payment work? Do you only post the item to the buyer when the money appears in your bank account?

BodgertheJogger · 04/04/2022 14:32

I'm very impressed with Vinted.
I've bought cashmere for £10 and handmade liberty needlework skirt for £3. I haven't had many regrets to be fair.

TruffleNoir · 04/04/2022 14:51

@5329871e

I’ve gotten some designer handbags from Vinted for a fraction of the RRP. They’re in great condition - better than if I’d bought them new and used them for a week, anyway! Yep I love Vinted.
@5329871e can you share what kind of bags you got? I keep looking but not sure what is actually a bargain or not!
ZittiEBuoni · 04/04/2022 14:56

No NancyPickford payment isn't received until the buyer has the item.

GandalfTheWhite · 04/04/2022 15:22

I just downloaded it last night and have already spent a small fortune on there

longtompot · 04/04/2022 15:26

I have been thinking about looking into this app and now have not only installed it, I have bought my first item and have several other items favourited! Could get expensive 😬

Frazzlerock · 04/04/2022 15:35

I dunno, as a seller I've used it recently and find it quite annoying. One item in particular got loads of 'favourites'. I was notified daily of someone else who had favourited it for weeks and weeks. I was going to remove it completely and give it to charity because selling for less wouldn't have been worth the trip to the post office (PO not local). But thankfully someone finally snapped it up eventually. I also kept getting queries to reduce an already mega cheap item by a £1 or £2, which annoyed me due to the aforementioned post office journey vs reducing an item to practically zero.
I haven't given it a huge chance, to be honest, apart from that.

I've tried searching for things I like as a buyer (filtering etc), but not found anything yet. Most things I have found are quite pricey still, but they seller is probably thinking the same as me "is selling this for less worth the trip to the PO" Grin

NancyPickford · 04/04/2022 16:25

@ZittiEBuoni

No NancyPickford payment isn't received until the buyer has the item.
So you have to trust the buyer to pay up?
LadyOfTheCanyon · 04/04/2022 16:30

I'm fairly new to it but have loved what I've got so far -amongst other stuff, found a brand new dress from Phase Eight for ten quid which I'll wear for a wedding I've got coming up.

There's a lot of ASOS regret for sale, but if you pick your labels carefully ( especially if you're familiar with the brand's sizing) the disappointment factor is smaller.

I do wish sellers would put more photos up though, or at least a slightly longer description of the item. It would save a lot of back and forth to find out what the material is, has it got a zip etc. No idea if they charge you per photo, and if they do I understand why you wouldn't want to post loads, but so many are blurry out of focus pictures of an item on a hanger on a wardrobe that I just don't bother with them. Or a snap of a random part like the armpit!

HowFascinating · 04/04/2022 16:43

I'm fed up to the back teeth with those irritating Vinted adverts. Prissy annoying people chirruping about how simple it is. Read Trust Pilot to get the full story.

anon2022anon · 04/04/2022 16:49

@NancyPickford the buyer pays for the item, postage & protection fee upfront. Normally, this is through my Hermes/ vinted, so it sends the seller a shipping label. The money goes into the sellers 'pending' balance. When the buyer marks as received, all okay, the money is moved to your available balance. The only pain is if its a royal mail postage item, the postage money also goes into your pending balance, so you have to lay that out.

Lineofconcepcion · 04/04/2022 16:51

Yes me too, have bought a few Cos things and I love altering clothes if they aren't quite right so they aren't wasted.

Lineofconcepcion · 04/04/2022 16:53

Have sold quite a few things too!

Darklane · 04/04/2022 16:54

It sounds far better for the buyer than the seller. You have to trust that the buyer will actually pay as NancyPickford said plus from the sounds of the really cheap prices paid for new or nearly new quality items hardly seems worth it from the sellers point.

5329871e · 04/04/2022 16:56

I got two Strathberry evening bags which were just under half RRP and like new / used once or twice. Then I got a Mulberry Bayswater for £100 which was in “terrible condition” but I managed to revive it to a decent state - this took a few hours of work though. Finally a Kate Spade crossbody for £50 which looked new as far as I could see, but no tags or dust bag.

5329871e · 04/04/2022 16:57

Sorry, that was in reply to @TruffleNoir and I meant to quote but failed

leccybill · 04/04/2022 17:00

I absolutely love it. Get all picky DD 12's clothes on there - just let her scroll. DH gets golf clothing and I get all kinds of everything. In fact, I haven't bought anything in a shop since before Christmas.

microbius · 04/04/2022 17:03

I find that second hand clothes shopping just got quite bad. Apps like Vinted removed all individual (not business) sellers from eBay and now I can't find anything on eBay cheaper than £60-70. You used to be able to get decent stuff for £20 or sometimes £10, but this layer is completely removed.

However, it hasn't moved to Vinted, as stuff I want is just not available there.

Similar with selling, I seem not to be able to sell anything through eBay anymore. Vinted is a bit better, but it seems that an old demographics of eBay buyers and sellers has just dissipated.

Where have old ebayers gone?

Wouldntitbenicetobeinyourshoes · 04/04/2022 17:06

Everything I look at is either tat or overpriced. I can’t seem to find the bargains.

I’ve bought one thing but do keep looking.

Hasselhoffsheadband · 04/04/2022 17:09

I buy loads from ebay and Depop, but have never seemed to find anything I like on Vinted? I don't know why really?

5329871e · 04/04/2022 17:09

I think the eBay commission is too high?

Also worth saying, I got loads of kids stuff from Vinted. I tend to search for the more expensive brands which I can’t justify the cost of buying new: Boden, Frugi, etc.

Also got a Hobbs Saskia trench for £80 brand new with tags. There are a couple of beige ones cheaper, but I wanted navy. Really pleased because RRP is £199.

I wouldn’t buy anything I didn’t already want/need. But if I wanted something then I’d look on Vinted first.
