Where on earth can I find a lovely dress or jumpsuit or whatever?

I have a healthy budget, size 10, young 36 and slightly 'alternative' (cringe) taste.

Aibu to ask for help! Please

How much do you want to spend? What sort of colours do you like?

Cakecakecheese · 01/04/2022 09:29

Popsy, Collectif, Lady Vintage London. Or look at vintage shops?

Starlitexpress · 01/04/2022 09:31

Nancymac?

Get Cutie? Lots of lovely dresses there.

ethelredonagoodday · 01/04/2022 09:32

Go vintage?
I did see a lovely floral jumpsuit in an email yest, think it was phase 8 at John Lewis?

Lemonlemon88 · 01/04/2022 09:34

What do you like? Alternative could mean anything! Colourful? Interesting lines? 50s? Sparkly? Full skirts? Tight?

Lemonlemon88 · 01/04/2022 09:35

Also what type of event is it? Backyard casual or super formal or somewhere in between?

TheVeryHungryTortoise · 01/04/2022 09:35

Have you looked on Anthropologie? Not sure if their style is your kind of thing.

MargosKaftan · 01/04/2022 09:56

Look at designer dress rentals.

ikeepseeingit · 01/04/2022 09:56

I’m 24 and I’m having the exact same problem OP. No idea who is buying this stuff! What kind of alternative style do you like?

SilverHairedCat · 01/04/2022 09:57

Wolf and Badger have some great things too

Inyourhonor · 01/04/2022 10:00

Im 32 and bought a dress this morning for a wedding from wantthattrend

But it is probably one of the ones you hate Grin

Rainallnight · 01/04/2022 10:20

What do you mean by alternative?

LDB1985 · 01/04/2022 10:23

Try stitch fix! You could ask for 5 outfits for the wedding and pick the one you like and send everything else back. If you don’t like anything it will only cost £10. I’ve done it a few times and got lovely stuff (including 2 jumpsuits) each time that I wouldn’t have found/tried on otherwise.

mountainofdreams · 01/04/2022 10:24

Sister Jane.

Jubaju · 01/04/2022 10:26

Some lovely dresses and jumpsuits… but alternative is pretty vague

Try ebay or vinted. Maybe spend an afternoon browsing charity & vintage stores.

Most of the high street shops are full of poorly made shite these days. Pretty much the same stuff on every shop too.

Whatsthestoryboringglory · 01/04/2022 10:29

I second Nancymac. Gorgeous jumpsuits!

A Parachute Club local to us has a range of different coloured jump-suits. If there is one near you perhaps you could borrow one for the day?
(I wouldn't use the helmet though, as it may make you look a bit silly rather than 'alternative')

Vapeyvapevape · 01/04/2022 10:36

I'm in the same boat Op , scoured Oxford Street and came home with nothing. I've just ordered loads from Next and managed to find one I like from Lipsy , I don't love it but it'll have to do .

Shurl · 01/04/2022 10:38

Firstly, I'd ask for this to be moved to style and beauty. And also define what you mean by lovely and alternative? Perhaps give some photos for examples of your style?

streamee · 01/04/2022 10:38

@CruCru

How much do you want to spend? What sort of colours do you like?
Maybe up to £500?
