Can I ask what works for you if you have dark circles under eyes?

I’ve been using the eclait highlighter, but it doesn’t really seem to do much now.

What works for you?

Tear trough filler once a year. Doesn't take away the dark circles but reduces the hollows making it easier to cover discolouration. They're becoming fairly commonplace in a lot of aesthetic clinics-done by cannula. My really good guy (dr) charges 450.

Then it's about skin care routine and prep. The area needs do be moisturised so that product doesn't sit in lines or cakes. It's easier said than done when you're battling against health issues or allergies.

I use kheils powerful strength line reducing concentrate in morning and evening. I also really rate the viola eye cream for moisturising properties. Then I use cetreban moisturiser.

As for products, I struggle to find stiff that doesn't settle or cake. My go to is bobbi brown corrector, followed by Estee lauder foundation and topped off with shape tape concealer or rodial banana lowlighter. It feels like I have tried every concealer ever made and I've found that so many of them do more harm than good as they dry out the area and you end up with product separating and caking.

Covering my under eye circles has been my life's work.
!

Tarte shape tape seems to work for me.

Also using highlighter on the brow bone, no mascara on bottom lashes and sometimes I'll put beige concealer along my bottom waterline. It seems to wake my whole face up and redirects the eye.

BigButtons · 23/03/2022 08:33

My tear trough filler cost about 259. The results last about 18 months . I am very very happy with the results. It has stopped me looking like the undead.
I have high cheekbones and a had a deep hollow under eye which was causing terrible shadows .
No more- will have it topped up without hesitation.

Mrbay · 23/03/2022 08:36

The only thing that truly helped but wasn't a 100% fix is filler.

Had mine down in the first lock down and haven't bothered again, it was only a minimal change.

Do you only pop the concealer in the inner and outer corner? I have found this application to be the best

Fishtankerous · 23/03/2022 08:55

I agree with the sunglasses suggestion.....

I've had dark circles my whole life, they are genetic. I used to constantly apply concealer underneath and wouldn't leave the house unless I'd done this, however, I've tried every concealer under the sun and they either settle into lines - or if you set with powder to avoid settling, it becomes crepey instead.

Fishtankerous · 23/03/2022 08:57

Pressed "post" too soon by accident.....

Anyway...
No topical treatment has worked. Nothing. It's just been wasted money.
Now I try and ignore them. I want to get tear trough fillers but I can't afford those and my lip fillers, so lips have had to take priority, haha

However it's hard when people ask if you've been punched in the eyes and you have to answer no, that's just what I look like.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 23/03/2022 09:03

I don't get dark circles but do get bags under my eyes when I'm tired and the best thing I've found is the old teaspoon trick. Keep a couple in the freezer and use the back of the spoon to massage little circles under your eyes when the bags appear. The cold reduces the swelling.

Might work for dark circles too and it's free so worth a try.

BusterGonad · 23/03/2022 12:34

For dark circles that are NOT puffy you can use your usual foundation and then use a high lighter such as Yves Saint Laurent Touché Eclat, or similar, there are loads of dupes out there. For puffy bags you need a non highlighting concealer in a shade slightly darker than your foundation, this will make the bags look slightly less puffy by giving the appearance that they sunken rather than protruding. For very dark circles you could use a thicker concealer like Benefit Boi-ing then lightly go over with highlighting concealer

Teacake40 · 23/03/2022 13:02

Thanks, this has made interesting reading.

I’ll try not to worry so much about my dark circles. I may try a different shade of YSL Eclat, as it used to do the trick a few years ago but now not so much.

I always preferred the Dior one in a silver pen style.
INeedEvidenceMum · 23/03/2022 19:07

I got taken in by a Facebook advert for an under eye concealer by Il Makiage but it’s actually surprisingly good and I’ll buy another one when it’s finished. You don’t need to use much of it so it lasts for ages.

Squidgoals · 23/03/2022 19:43

I have really dark circles and have spent nearly 40 years trying to hide them. Liquids and creams do not work without powder. They don't have the pigment and they settle into creases. But using concealer and powder is a faff and can get claggy.
So - powder. Lily Lolo concealer is really good, as long as you get the right colour and a nice light moisturiser to go under it.

There are lots of all-in-one powder foundations that work really well. I like Estée Lauder double wear matte powder foundation and the Fenty powder foundation. You can just bung it on with the sponge provided, with minimal blending. Again, you just need to find the right moisturiser for it to adhere to

BaconAndAvocado · 23/03/2022 20:06

Revolution peach colour corrector, Dior Forever foundation then either Lancôme Teinte Idôle or Revolution Infinite concealer depending on level of coverage I need (the Revolution is fuller coverage and the Lancôme is more radiant).

I have very dark circles and hollows and have spent loads on trying to find a concealer that 100% covers them but still haven’t really found it!

Orangeslemon · 23/03/2022 20:38

I gave up trying to cover mine! I now just use the Origins Ginzing eye cream in the morning which really brightens them up, then the Ordinary Caffeine Solution overnight.

MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 28/03/2022 13:37

Nothing (other than a light tan).

Even tear trough fillers ( 😮) didn’t work

dipdye · 29/03/2022 02:20

A tan, as pp's say. Also, wearing colours that suit you, next to your face.

Obviously sleep helps

Delatron · 29/03/2022 08:53

Tear trough fillers worked well for me. So much so that when I lost my concealer on holiday and couldn’t buy another it wasn’t a disaster. Whereas previously I would have had very dark circles to cover.

They’ve lasted a good 17 months too. I suspect filler lasts longer than the companies say they do as they want you to go back and get them redone. Though I was told they’d last up to 18 months.

sweepeep · 29/03/2022 08:56

Honestly...more sleep 🤣

WeRateSquirrels · 29/03/2022 10:08

Another vote for ignore/sunglasses. I've got sensitive/runny eyes and any product I put right under them migrates into them, then I get gunky concealer at the corners which looks worse than the circles.

Never once have I looked at someone and noticed anything about their undereye circles/bags etc.

EvelynBeatrice · 29/03/2022 12:03

I just bought dr Denny's Gross LED light eye mask on sale and as with my previous much loved cheapie and sadly discontinuedNeutrogeba LED mask, it has taken away the discolouration under my eyes. Depends how comfortable though you are with LED light therapy near eyes though.

Leftbutcameback · 30/03/2022 16:42

So I think after reading this, and watching Killing Eve where I noticed the lovely Helena had dark circles and obvious tear troughs, I'm going to accept I can't cover them completely and trying to do so looks rubbish. So today I'm just using a bit of concealer to brighten and minimise.

Quite keen to hear any recommendations for moisturiser to wear under concealer though.

Gwenhwyfar · 30/03/2022 19:51

Nothing.
Least worst is my L'Oreal concealer, but the shadows are still visible and it makes my wrinkles worse :(

Gwenhwyfar · 30/03/2022 19:54

@Jamboree01

Does ‘dark circles’ mean ‘bags’? I am always confused by this and end up wishing I had dark circles rather than bags lol
No, not the same thing.
Gwenhwyfar · 30/03/2022 19:57

Oh really? How disappointing? Is it because you have pigmentation rather than hollows? I'm wondering whether lazer or PRP would be better.
Gwenhwyfar · 30/03/2022 19:58

"Never once have I looked at someone and noticed anything about their undereye circles/bags etc."

You would with me.
Sunglasses is hardly a real solution, is it?
