Moustache removal - is it time, and how?

I’m mid forties and my downy ‘tache has started to be more obvious. I think the hairs are darkening, just at the corners of my upper lip.
I asked my DH if he thought I should start removing it and he said he hadn’t noticed it until I pointed it out, and he now didn’t know what to say!
So who removes their ‘tache and what do you use? Does it create more of a problem when stubble comes back? And who just lets their facial hair be natural?
I’m not a high maintenance sort of person, so it would have to be a quick and easy part of the routine and preferably not something that needed revisiting more than weekly.

Laser, but I had a lovely thick tache (ethnicity a big factor here plus hormonal thing). It didn’t get rid of it completely but regrowth is so fine it can be shaved off if I can be arsed. I used to have waxing accidents , or spent ages tweezing. Imo laser is the way to go.

@Hoporific

As a heterosexual man, I had a girlfriend who shaved her top lip, rather off-putting I found, as it was always a bit stubbly/ rough (even if just recently shaved). Not sure I'd recommend.
Well you know MP, if we didn't live in a patriarchal society that deemed women should remain hair free in certain places at all times, so as to avoid being "off putting" to men....then I guess your girlfriend, along with the rest of us, wouldn't have had to bother! 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

With laser you will get the best results with dark hair and pale skin. Yup you have to shave it but tbh it’s a short time, I had very very think hair so the intial bit was distressing. But I think I saw significant results by the third session, hair just started falling out (I had my face and neck done). It was a massive relief. Tbh though i think how fast you see an improvement really will be on the basis of how thick your hair is, the colour or your hair and your skin colour.

I get mine threaded every 2ish weeks when I get my eyebrows done and tweeze any very noticeable ones that pop up in between. It hurts but is cheap, over very quickly and doesn’t give me spots which waxing does. I’m 36 and my tâche has definitely gotten more noticeable in the last couple of years.

I've been doing it years and this is exactly what I do, it works a treat every time:

1 Joleon Beach the tash (it comes in a small teal box can get from places like Sainsbury, Savers, Superdrug, Boots, Tesco and there will be instructions inside)
2 using sewing scissors trim the tash.
3 sit back and enjoy your new youthful upper lip.

Bleach** not Beach 🏖

WeirdlyKind · 19/03/2022 10:34

I have PCOS so have a lovely full moustache. I shave mine with an eyebrow razor and pluck the thicker hairs. Doesn't feel stubbly. The spring thing was the single most painful thing I've tried to remove the hair!

Wow you're a brave man coming into this conversation, hold onto your hat!

Good on you for giving your informed opinion though, I hope they go easy on you 🤞😄

I don't know how to get the spring thing to work the instructions are in Chinese

LesLavandes · 19/03/2022 11:36

It lies though - it really fecking hurts!

SnipSnipMrBurgess · 19/03/2022 18:08

I'm thinking of trying a Hollywood browser/ razor thing and will report back.

I didn't know I had a moustache till I turned 41 this year and sprouted sideburns, which seemed to accentuate the rest of the hair.

Every couple of months I get one long random black hair that sprouts from the middle of my chest. That gets plucked. I don't know where the little shit comes from.

I use the Veet gentle facial wax strips. Effective and quick. I used to bleach but if you have more hair it just looks obvious.

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 20/03/2022 12:29

If it isn't too bad tweezers. If that takes too long epilate

TheChosenTwo · 20/03/2022 18:14

Jesus the spring thing was an instrument of pure torture on my face!
I pluck, once every three or so weeks. Probably 4/5 hairs on the upper corners of my mouth but I’m dark haired so I noticed it when using my magnifying mirror to pluck my eyebrows. Takes seconds. It does make the area feel strangely numb though Confused

Gonnagetgoing · 20/03/2022 18:37

I don’t have this issue but it get the area permanently lasered if I had the money.

Snailhaterz2 · 20/03/2022 18:58

I have a mixture of thick white hairs and wiry dark hairs on my upper lip, chin and increasingly my neck - I'm 60+. I use a mini epilator thingy - basically a tiny razor with an angled head - especially for the upper lip and neck. Especially in the summer when they show up so brilliantly in the light!

MisterMeaner · 20/03/2022 22:01

Soooo I took the plunge and got myself one of the little lipstick-shaped shavers. It definitely looks better, but I can feel a very fine bristliness where it was. Might try wax strips when it grows back, and see if I prefer those (although I hate all hair-pulling-out things with a passion. No way would you persuade me to use that springy thing!)

Laser hair removal. Probably cheaper than other methods longer term and less faff

FluffyFluffMonster · 20/03/2022 22:37

Did the man come back? I wanted to ask him how to change a light bulb!

Gwenhwyfar · 20/03/2022 22:41

"Jesus the spring thing was an instrument of pure torture on my face!"

Hurts a bit the first time, then your skin gets used to it. Less painful than wax I'd say.
Definitely cheaper than laser long term.

Snoopsnoggysnog · 20/03/2022 23:05

OP honestly try the springy thing
