Moustache removal - is it time, and how?

I’m mid forties and my downy ‘tache has started to be more obvious. I think the hairs are darkening, just at the corners of my upper lip.
I asked my DH if he thought I should start removing it and he said he hadn’t noticed it until I pointed it out, and he now didn’t know what to say!
So who removes their ‘tache and what do you use? Does it create more of a problem when stubble comes back? And who just lets their facial hair be natural?
I’m not a high maintenance sort of person, so it would have to be a quick and easy part of the routine and preferably not something that needed revisiting more than weekly.

@Hoporific

As a heterosexual man, I had a girlfriend who shaved her top lip, rather off-putting I found, as it was always a bit stubbly/ rough (even if just recently shaved). Not sure I'd recommend.
Get lost

Does the epilator work. I find wax strips good and spring thing

What about sides of face. Would epilator work

I worry about making it worse

After many years of shaving tache and beard once or twice a day (very dark haired 😒) I finally went for Electrolysis….best thing I have ever done in my life.
Been going for a year and now down to 10 mins every 6 weeks to weed out the occasional wispy, colourless hairs. So angry with myself that I didn’t do it years ago!

Reluctantadult · 18/03/2022 20:08

Ah maybe it's an age thing, I'm 39 and have just had to start doing something about my moustache. The main tash is OK with just shaving it really. But I've got coarse and dark chin hairs, so got a philips lumea ipl but actually not seen any change. I've just started a course of professional ipl to zap them good n proper I hope.

Felicity42 · 18/03/2022 20:15

Start with Jolene bleach and see how you get on. For small amounts of top lip hair it's absolutely fine. Takes 10mins every 2 or 3 weeks depending.

Gwenhwyfar · 18/03/2022 20:17

Count yourself lucky you only have it now. I've had a moustache since my teens. I used creams then, but now I use the springy thing.

Hoppinggreen · 18/03/2022 20:28

@MisterMeaner

Shaving I genuinely had not considered - do you not end up with manly stubble by the end of the day?
I do it every other day, along with the ones on my chin
Toddlerteaplease · 18/03/2022 20:33

I'm having laser treatment on mine, and on my chin hair. Had 4 out of 8 treatments and noticed a huge difference. It cost £127 for eight sessions from a high street clinic. Worth every penny.

Toddlerteaplease · 18/03/2022 20:34

Much less painful than waxing!

Ohyesiam · 18/03/2022 20:36

I have done all types of hair removal on my tache, including laser and IPL. I now shave daily and have done for almost 20 years.

ParkheadParadise · 18/03/2022 20:49

Years ago the girl that was threading my eyebrows asked if I wanted my top lip threaded too.
The word Yes please was hardly out of my mouth when I was screaming GET TO FUCK I have never felt pain like it.
She looked alarmed as I wrestled her to get off the chair.
She told me as I haven't finished I won't charge you😂😂
I've had 2 kids and I'd rather have a 3rd than have my upper lip threaded again. I was fucking traumatised for days 😂😂😂
I stick to waxing now.

MadameDragon · 18/03/2022 21:02

Another vote for Jolen. I have been using it for about 25 years. Yes, you can see the hair but I’m not trying to appear hairless, I just don’t want to look like my dad.

Metabigot · 18/03/2022 21:16

6 sessions of laser treatment and it went completely for 2 years. Just had another 6. So for £25 a session works out t around £75 a year to be completely tache free

Time40 · 18/03/2022 21:56

No. I can feel a tiny bit of something after 2 or 3 days, but I can't actually see anything.

WineGetsMeThroughIt · 18/03/2022 21:57

Depending on how much time I have when I realise it's got so bad I will either wax it with face wax strips - literally takes a few mins and the results lasts for about a month. If I'm want a quick fix I'll use a ladies facial razor. They're great! I do my whole face and I love the results because it takes all the fluff and dead skin off as well. My makeup goes in so nice the next morning after!

I use these ones. Cheap but great! amzn.to/3qiDtBw

Wallywobbles · 18/03/2022 21:58

electrolysis and laser. If you wait until they go grey electrolysis is your only option.

MisterMeaner · 18/03/2022 22:57

So many options, but I still can’t decide if I “need” to do it. It’s not the sort of thing anyone would actually say if they thought it looked unsightly, cos everyone is too polite.
I think I’ll need to actually get rid rather than bleaching as I’ve developed a habit of poking at the hairs with the tip of my tongue, whilst I contemplate them!
Might try that little lipstick shaped thing as a first port of call - it looks quick.

Another concern is that I’ll end up wanting to do the whole face, and just create another weekly half hour job for myself!

Braun epilator thing.

Hurts like hell initially (took me 3 days and do not do it when due on). After that if you go over it daily it just sort of tickles and keeps the hair at bay.

I'm genuinely confused about Laser Removal. Some people say its amazing and some say they did it and now use something else. So I guess it is not permanent then? If you stay on top of top ups does it ever grow back? Is it totally smooth?

Mindgone · 19/03/2022 00:23

I honestly think I wish I had left mine alone!

I had thick black hairs think daily plucking of chin.... 6 x laser removed it all (chin, under lip, upper lip) 2 years later saw a little re growth but nothing like before had another 6 sessions now all gone again.

Happy to continue every few years but the laser doesn't lke white or grey hairs only dark ones which is why fair people may not get good results

goodjoujou · 19/03/2022 08:19

Veet strips are fab but just make sure you warm them up by rubbing them sufficiently before applying or you can end up with a red patch. I’m brunette and have used for about 10 years, since late thirties and I think they’ve even made the hair much sparser hurray and never had stubble.

If you're poking at it with your tongue I would say it's time personally but it's your moustache.
Dontfuckingsaycheese · 19/03/2022 08:49

These are fab. I do my tache once a week - I’ve done it this morning actually and maintain my whiskers and eye brows with a quick pluck with tweezers 🤗

Snoopsnoggysnog · 19/03/2022 09:49

Threading and those springy things.

Be warned though my hand luggage got searched at the airport last week and the offending item was the springy thing Blush

I have a question about laser as well. I really want to do this but am put off by the fact that you have to shave it first? Is that true.

HoliHormonalTigerlilly · 19/03/2022 09:54

@fedup2017

I use a £1 spring hair remover from primark.. dont have a fully tashe but occasional thicker hair started appearing after 40 .

Once you get yhe hand of it its really quick.

This.
