Moustache removal - is it time, and how?

I’m mid forties and my downy ‘tache has started to be more obvious. I think the hairs are darkening, just at the corners of my upper lip.
I asked my DH if he thought I should start removing it and he said he hadn’t noticed it until I pointed it out, and he now didn’t know what to say!
So who removes their ‘tache and what do you use? Does it create more of a problem when stubble comes back? And who just lets their facial hair be natural?
I’m not a high maintenance sort of person, so it would have to be a quick and easy part of the routine and preferably not something that needed revisiting more than weekly.

I just use the veet facial wax strips. Does the job perfectly and no stubble.

Beamur · 18/03/2022 08:22

I get mine waxed professionally ever 2 months. Not expensive, regrowth is very fine. Takes a couple of minutes.

fedup2017 · 18/03/2022 08:29

I use a £1 spring hair remover from primark.. dont have a fully tashe but occasional thicker hair started appearing after 40 .

Once you get yhe hand of it its really quick.

SilverHairedCat · 18/03/2022 08:35

No way am I doing that. Have you tried just bleaching it? Try a tub of Jolen. Not expensive, kinder to the skin and hair can't get more coarse etc. Start there maybe - I've done that for years.

WandaThePanda · 18/03/2022 08:43

I just pluck mine, and have done since my early teens

ElvisPresleysSideburns · 18/03/2022 08:56

I use one of these https://www.wilko.com/jml-finishing-touch-flawless-usb-rechargeable-facial-hair-remover/p/0476314?gclid=Cj0KCQjw29CRBhCUARIsAOboZbJ79wGDFmWbPEQ8tN5JPlstSVqBZ0A6nDDEswUUbCjnSD7hirHI1EaAt2FEALwwcB&gclsrc=aw.ds seems to keep it at bay! Painless and doesn't need doing that often.

HotSauceCommittee · 18/03/2022 08:59

I shave mine off. It's fine and I don't want to pull at my 49 year old skin with wax strips; not on the old face.

Teaforme123 · 18/03/2022 09:04

I use the jml hair removal pen. I use the eyebrow one just on my top lip but they do a facial hair one which is a bit bigger. It's quick and painless and the hair doesn't grow back all stubbly I love it.

GoIntoTheLight · 18/03/2022 09:06

Electrolysis for me. Painful and expensive as it is!

PeterPomegranate · 18/03/2022 09:09

I get a nice lady to wax mine. She threads my eyebrows too. I find threading too painful for upper lip. Depending on where you live (an area with a big south Asian population) there may be loads of places that offer this.

DuckyNoMates · 18/03/2022 09:09

Don't bother with the bleach it doesn't look great and somehow looks worse than if it was just left to be itself. I'd try a springy thing or wax strips.

DuckyNoMates · 18/03/2022 09:09

Ooh or threading.

PeterPomegranate · 18/03/2022 09:09

Oh, and I tried waxing my own but I didn’t get all the hairs and I tended to get spots.

Burgerqueenbee · 18/03/2022 09:13

Yes the problem with bleaching is when the sun hits it and you have a golden halo illuminated over your top lip Blush
I wax, it is the quickest and easiest solution.

psuedocream3 · 18/03/2022 09:16

tweezers

SilverHairedCat · 18/03/2022 09:21

Ah, I bleach all my lower face at the same time so no halo any more than a blonde woman would get. Facial hair is natural, so I am loathe to start the painful plucking.

What about a Philips Lumea?

Iseeyoulookingatme · 18/03/2022 09:24

I use hair removal cream, takes a couple of minutes and is pain free. Make sure you use one for sensitive skin. The nair one is great and doesn't smell funny.

Time40 · 18/03/2022 09:27

Just shave it off, OP. Water, a bit of soap and a disposable razor. Takes about three seconds.

Ow! Ouch! Noooo!

MisterMeaner · 18/03/2022 09:53

Shaving I genuinely had not considered - do you not end up with manly stubble by the end of the day?

Hoporific · 18/03/2022 09:55

As a heterosexual man, I had a girlfriend who shaved her top lip, rather off-putting I found, as it was always a bit stubbly/ rough (even if just recently shaved). Not sure I'd recommend.

QuantumHypothesis · 18/03/2022 09:57

Waxed every couple of months and a springythingy in between until it gets out of hand again. Tweezers for the two random thicker hairs that usually appear overnight.

turquoisebaby · 18/03/2022 09:58

I used to wax with facial wax strips, quick and easy, but you have to have to wait for it to grow long enough to wax.

Now I am having it lasered. Its a permanent solution and not too expensive as its a small area and its not painful.

I used to use Veet but it makes my skin red. One time I did it and looked like Homer Simpson.

These days I shave it, perhaps once a month. Easy.

Freshprincess · 18/03/2022 09:59

Also an epistick. Takes 2 minutes and you can do it whenever.

I used to do it every 2/3 days, but I’ve got a Lumea now so much less often.
