Moustache removal - is it time, and how?

I’m mid forties and my downy ‘tache has started to be more obvious. I think the hairs are darkening, just at the corners of my upper lip.
I asked my DH if he thought I should start removing it and he said he hadn’t noticed it until I pointed it out, and he now didn’t know what to say!
So who removes their ‘tache and what do you use? Does it create more of a problem when stubble comes back? And who just lets their facial hair be natural?
I’m not a high maintenance sort of person, so it would have to be a quick and easy part of the routine and preferably not something that needed revisiting more than weekly.

I'm much younger than you but just naturally have tons of dark thick hair. When I keep on top of it my preferred method of removal is getting threaded every month or so by a competent threader. I get my full face done though so it's definitely the best option for that kind of mass hair removal haha. In between or when I don't have time for the appointments I use a JML Flawless to remove hair from the main trouble spots like upper lip.

thisplaceisweird · 18/03/2022 10:02

wax with the small veet strips or go and get it threaded

Forshorttheycallmecomp · 18/03/2022 10:06

I like the Sainsburys own wax strips, and a bit of tweezing.

Spudlet · 18/03/2022 10:08

What does the JML thing actually do? Is it a trimmer or a plucker or what?

I definitely have a few hairs on my chin (-ny chin chin) that I’d like gone - they’re blonde but they show up sometimes if I wear a black polo neck. HD selfie cameras have left me really paranoid about them, and my ‘tache 😣

Blueuggboots · 18/03/2022 10:08

I use a tweezie spring thing. It's quite satisfying!!
I did used to get it waxed and tweeze in between.

ImAvingOops · 18/03/2022 13:37

I use my leg epilator. Painful but effective

Mimijamroll · 18/03/2022 13:56

Years ago I had a spell of electrolysis. I gave that up and wouldn't go back, it was rather painful.

Since then I've bleached it , use Jolen at the moment, some also used the facial wax strips and also tweeze the occasional hair that stands out.

@Hoporific

As a heterosexual man, I had a girlfriend who shaved her top lip, rather off-putting I found, as it was always a bit stubbly/ rough (even if just recently shaved). Not sure I'd recommend.
Lucky we women can make hair removal decisions on what suits us best then, rather than doing what we think the men in our life will prefer Wink Smile
AnotherPoster · 18/03/2022 14:07

I'm miles older than you, dark haired and genuinely low maintenance. I shave it off with a bic razor and a smear of soap suds whenever I notice it which is probably once a month. There isnt stubble by the end of the day!

EatSleepReplete · 18/03/2022 14:19

I don't have upper lip hair, but I do (did) have rather a lot of chin hair, plus quite a few under my jaw too. Am currently getting weekly electrolysis. It's not a quick fix & it's distinctly uncomfortable, but not as much as botox (which I get for migraines, have done for years). It's definitely starting to make a difference, the hairs on my chin are much fewer, I've only had 4 sessions so far. Going to get my sideburns done after the chin is finished. So nice not to have to pluck daily.

A580Hojas · 18/03/2022 14:24

Have it waxed or threaded. Then buy yourself a x 15 magnifying hand mirror in Superdrug or Boots and a pair of pointed tweezers. Tweeze them out when they start to grow back, clean where you've tweezed with a reasonably astringent toner. It takes me about 2 x 5 min sessions a week to keep on top of my tache like this.

Ponypizzy · 18/03/2022 14:27

I had my eyebrows and top lip threaded this morning. Hair is very fine and not hugely noticeable but I find my make up sits on better and it improves my complexion. Lip doesn’t need doing as much as eyebrows and thank the lawd because it bloody kills Shock

Christmas1988 · 18/03/2022 14:40

I’m very very dark I’ve had a tache most of my life, the best advice I had from the woman in my family was not to touch it, I took their advice until about two years ago, now I’m plucking and all sorts throughout the day, it’s a nightmare, maybe if your pale and have fine hair it’s not a problem but dark thick skin, dark thick hairs it’s awful hair removal creams don’t work on my hair 😭

As a heterosexual woman, I’d find it rather off-putting if my H was found hanging around Style and Beauty on Mumsnet…

Anyway OP I have a Braun facial epilator and I also tweeze. Mine are totally fair but you can still see them in the sunlight. The facial epilator thing has to be done before bed as it leaves skin very red.

WeRateSquirrels · 18/03/2022 15:49

I just shave it. Mine's too blonde for Lumea and anything that pulls it out by the roots gives me loads of little irritated pimples a couple of days later. Always mystified by the bleach thing as mine is very fine and blonde but still very noticeable.

BennyTheWonderDog · 18/03/2022 15:51

I get mine threaded when I get my brows done.

Oh thank goodness a Man has arrived to tell us what to do

@Hoporific
Okay, what was the thought process you went through before posting your bon mots here, pls, could you talk me through it, pls? Thank you.

FlibbertyGiblets · 18/03/2022 18:04

Nb tweezers. Car mirror is best, I am not joking.

Itsnotover · 18/03/2022 18:07

Wax your upper lip. Professional is better than Veet strips because the wax gets all the very fine hairs out. I would not shave them as they will grow back thick and blunt. Removing at the root is best as the hairs weaken and grow back finer.

15x magnification? Are you mad?!

Quite frankly I don’t give a fuck what any man thinks of what I do to my facial hair.
Ruthietuthie · 18/03/2022 19:50

Electrolysis here. Got rid of the hair permanently - much of my hair was really pale (with the odd dark one) but some were really wiry. I go every few months to treat any new ones that grow through. It does hurt, but it works.

BeanStew22 · 18/03/2022 19:55

Get it waxed at a salon (only a few pounds) as a start & get a epilator/trimmer to use at home in case you can’t get to the salon

If it gets worse do IPL (laser)

I am really offended by this, @Hoporific. Really.

Should we little women only do what our Menfolks recommend? Really?

I don't believe your input in Style & Beauty adds value, to be honest.
