How many days before going on holiday do you get a manicure/pedicure?

Do you always go the day before travel or will a couple of days before be fine?

Struggling for time day before travelling abroad. Travelling on a Wed, do you think Saturday for nails will still be fine?

I don't

BelleNoir · 16/03/2022 13:50

I always try to go the day before I travel

NeedWineNow · 16/03/2022 13:54

I have done the weekend before we travel but I have to say that now I try and go the day before we go. If you are going on Wednesday is there any way you could get a late night on the Monday or Tuesday if you can't get in during the day?

Boood · 16/03/2022 13:59

Doing mine today, flying out on Saturday. I find pedicures generally last pretty well, but I always take the polish away in case it chips. Top tip- if you use a glittery polish it’s much easier to repair invisibly than a smooth shiny colour.

Amelion · 16/03/2022 14:01

Gel or regular polish? And how long are you going away for? Gel lasts better but if i was going for a couple of weeks or so I’d still wait until as late as possible as it’ll show regrowth on me within 10-14 days on my nails.

MsMiaWallace · 16/03/2022 14:26

Gel polish.
Away for 2 weeks

Gel polish pedis normally last me about four weeks, so a few days before departure should be okay.

Amelion · 16/03/2022 16:24

Gel polish pedicure also lasts ages on me. But a manicure would be looking quite outgrown by 2.5 weeks so I’d get it as close as possible to the day I was leaving. Mine is usually great up to about 10 days then after that I can see regrowth and by 2.5-3 weeks it definitely needs redoing. Depends how fast your nails grow though.

Gonnagetgoing · 16/03/2022 17:42

a couple of days before should be fine. Just get a gel one if you're not doing so will last for 2-3 weeks.

Concestor · 16/03/2022 17:44

I do my own and usually do it the first day of my holiday while sitting enjoying a glass of wine.

FelicityFlops · 16/03/2022 17:44

Never, ever. Off in about 3 weeks' time. Why would I?

gogohm · 16/03/2022 18:00

2-3 days usually

Nnique · 16/03/2022 18:04

Ideally 3 days before, so that if I change my mind or something goes wrong, I have a day free and a chance to rectify it. That’s for a 2 week trip. For 1 week, anytime in the week leading up would be fine.

My nails only look good for 2 weeks with a gel manicure (my nails grow quite quickly, I guess), so I wouldn’t want to have it done earlier than that.

Justmuddlingalong · 16/03/2022 18:07

Sort to bob in with a question, but does sun tan lotion knacker a gel manicure the way it does normal nail polish?

linerforlife · 16/03/2022 18:09

I try to get it done the day before I travel.

Nanalisa60 · 16/03/2022 18:12

Day before I leave

Evoll671 · 16/03/2022 21:25

@FelicityFlops some people like to, have you not heard of people getting a pedicure or manicure before?

peanutbutterandbananas · 16/03/2022 21:59

Gel doesn't get spoilt by suntan lotion. I take a nail file for any chips.

peanutbutterandbananas · 16/03/2022 22:00

And you can also put "normal" nail varnish on top if you want a colour change

NeedleNoodle3 · 16/03/2022 22:00

The day before , I get gel finger nails and the same colour for my toe nails but normal polish.

MsMiaWallace · 17/03/2022 07:24

Managed to book an appointment Monday. Travel Wednesday early morning so should be good to go.

Nnique · 17/03/2022 09:44

@NeedleNoodle3 why no gel on your toe nails? It’s great and you get to have a perfect pedicure for weeks and weeks (much longer than finger nails - I get about six weeks out of mine!).

@MsMiaWallace Show us your holiday manicure when it’s done! 🙂

@Nnique - before gel polish was a thing and used widely, one of my first pedicures (approx 25 years ago!) I told them I was off to Crete for 2 weeks and the beauty therapist chose a lovely colour with a bit of sheen/light glitter in it - it lasted really well including swimming pool/beach stuff and for about 2 weeks after I returned home.

ChickenStripper · 17/03/2022 09:56

No one cares.
MsMiaWallace · 17/03/2022 12:43

Daft question. Do you get the gel on your toes removed as you would your fingers or do you just let it grow out?
