Thoughts on this coat?

I've been looking for a light trench style coat and think this fits the bill. I'm quite short at 5 ft 3 and a bit and I hate long line swishy coats.

I thought this one was unfussy, streamlined and hopefully not clingy. Needs to go with a very dressed down look as I live in casual gear with Vejas or NB trainers

Thoughts?

Might help if I add it

It's fine, looks like it'd do the job without turning any heads. I am a cheapskate so would except great quality at that price.

FlorencePKettle · 15/03/2022 23:09

Definitely don't want to turn heads - just want to look relatively put together and not all ' look at me in my trench coat!!!'

Are you looking for a coat or a raincoat?

If it's a raincoat it's quite short- even on someone 5'3".

Also if it's a raincoat , it's very slim fitting. If I were looking for a raincoat I'd look for one that looks equally ok over a summer dress or layered winter clothes.

If it's just a coat , then agree- it's fine but not head turning.

FlorencePKettle · 15/03/2022 23:17

Just a lightweight coat that resembles a short trench. Not looking for a raincoat no. Or anything exciting

I have loads of camo jackets, north face raincoat, long padded coat, denim, all sorts. I'm just missing something nicer

It's nice but £200 is a bargain price. If that's what I was budgeting for I'd want to make sure none of Hobbs, Jigsaw, LK Bennet or Jaeger at M& S had anything nicer.

KimikosNightmare · 15/03/2022 23:26

Isn't a bargain price....

Zinnia · 15/03/2022 23:34

I have stumbled across something similar in M&S as it happens: https://www.marksandspencer.com/cotton-rich-stormwear-longline-car-coat/p/clp60528139

Franklyfrost · 15/03/2022 23:36

It’s not my style. The sort of people who wear those coats well you have to tread that fine line between well put together (ironed clothes, blow dry hair, we’ll fitting clothes, good sunglasses etc) while remaining casual (jeans, trainer etc). It’s hard work.

Milomonster · 15/03/2022 23:37

Very bland.

EmmaH2022 · 15/03/2022 23:58

It's very nice. I must admit, I've never bought at that price point bit presume you get good quality for it. Looks lovely.

ChickenStripper · 16/03/2022 00:30

Barbour similar

Wiredforsound · 16/03/2022 05:44

You can’t really go wrong with a coat like that.

Mercurial123 · 16/03/2022 05:53

I have a similar one from Jigsaw. It's made in the UK and was around the same price as the Whistles. I wear mine all the time. If you love it buy it.

I bought this trench yesterday. Im 5 foot 9 so maybe it would be a bit long at 5 foot 3 but i do think it looks really good quality and should last years. Plus its cheaper than the Whistles one!

chocopuffs · 16/03/2022 06:32

I have a similar style to you and I like it, and to be honest I would buy it at that price if it's the one you like, because if you buy a cheaper one you'll be very aware you've compromised and might wish you'd just gone for that one! Though I do have a very similar JL own brand one, let me see if I can link to it.

Sorry … Columbo comes to mind 😬

weekend2021 · 16/03/2022 06:50

I love it and think it sounds perfect for your style and height! Definitely an ‘investment’ piece.

2DogsOnMySofa · 16/03/2022 07:09

Not sore in the length, it's kind of inbetween and it looks a bit 'odd'

CaMePlaitPas · 16/03/2022 07:11

It's nothing to write home about but it'll do the job.

Aspergirl77 · 16/03/2022 07:15

I’d go for the M&S one and save a few quid as I can barely tell the difference!

FlorencePKettle · 16/03/2022 07:20

@TheRealHousewife you say that like it's a bad thing! Grin

OP posts:
FlorencePKettle · 16/03/2022 07:24

Well I ordered it and it arrives tomorrow. If I don't like it, I'll just return it so no harm done I suppose

I don't like the M&S one much. Do like the Barbour one but not as much as the whistles. The Cos one is lovely but would look so silly on me

I need uncluttered and plain. Something that won't look silly with my usual slim cut joggers , t shirts and trainers .. sometimes wear wide leg jersey trouser things and sometimes jeans. Always trainers. So just needs to elevate that sort of style (ha, style!)

TinaYouFatLard · 16/03/2022 07:29

I really like it OP. I’m the same height as you and hate the way lots of smart coats are so long they look a bit dressing-gown like on me. Especially those with a tie belt 😂

Let us know how it looks in real life!
