Piercings- same on both sides

HappeeInParis · 11/03/2022 07:51

When I was a teen, back in the mists of time, it was the thing not to have symmetrical ear piercings. So I had 3 lobe piercings on the left and 2 on the right.

As an adult I’ve only really worn earrings in the first holes and the others nearly closed up. However, I love pretty piercings and yesterday decided to have my helix done on the left and to start wearing tiny studs in all the others.

So now I have helix and 3 lobes on the left and 2 lobes on the right.

DD tells me that this is unusual these days and generally people get the same on both sides. She’s planning a second lobe piercing and will do the same on each ear.

Obviously it’s personal taste but I just wondered what other people did, if you’re someone with more than just one lobe done each side. If it makes a difference, I’m not a very alternative person in my look overall.

I think we must be a similar age.

I used to work for Claire's so have tons of piercings. At one point I had 4 in one lobe, 3 in the other with one at the top of that ear.

Pretty much after my second holes I had them in an uneven pattern.

I've let all but the first holes and top hole close up now. I'm still lopsided I guess as I have 2 in one and 1 in the other.

I still love the look of uneven piercings though.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 11/03/2022 08:01

I have a standard lobe piercing on both sides plus a high lobe on one side. Most people I know have asymmetrical piercings but that could be a age thing.

Orangesox · 11/03/2022 08:33

I’m 33, I have two lobe piercings each side, and then on the left have daith, forward helix, top helix and two helix. I like having one “feature” ear - incidentally my nose piercing is left nostril… maybe it is a thing of a certain vintage!

BovrilonToast · 11/03/2022 08:38

I’m 45 and have 5 on one side and three on the other. Totally differently placements too…(I have big earlobes!)

For years I had three and one, but had some more piercings in the last few years.

HelloChompy · 11/03/2022 11:24

I'm 45 and have 8 piercings in 1 ear and 10 in the other, all different placements. I follow a lot of piercers on Facebook and apart from matching 1st and 2nd lobes, the majority of pictures I see feature asymmetrical piercings and the people in the pictures are a lot younger than me!

daisyjgrey · 11/03/2022 12:07

I'm 34 and have had a lot of piercings over the years. Symmetry has always been a thing in my world, for ears or faces.

StarlightLady · 11/03/2022 13:12

Early 40s, 3 on one side, 1 on the other.

FunnyTalks · 11/03/2022 17:28

Early 40s. Uneven. Definitely prefer it that way. I got them all very young and I guess I feel a bit more connected to the young me than to today's young people, if that makes sense? They're a reminder of my wild past. I have been considering another, but will definitely keep it uneven.

mynameiscalypso · 11/03/2022 17:32

Late 30s and so have 2 + 1. It was definitely the thing to do when I was in my early teens and most people I knew had the same. I assume, by definition, that means it's not what the youth of today do!

I know loads of pierced teens, my Dd is one, none of them have the same on both sides
Imsittinginthekitchensink · 11/03/2022 17:41

Late 40s. 2 in left ear, 10 in right.

JudgeRindersMinder · 11/03/2022 17:41

Until this week I had one lobe double pierced and the other single, amd it’s been like that since I was 14.

I now have one single and lobe treble pierced, tragis and cartilage 😂
I’ll get another in the single lobe, but that will be all for that side. I plan more for the other side. I can’t STAND the idea of matching sides 🤷🏼‍♀️
I’m 51 😂

HamCob · 11/03/2022 17:51

I struggle to sleep on the side with my helix piercing so I dread to think what it would be like with symmetrical ears!

MrsDeaconClaybourne · 11/03/2022 17:59

Mid 40s 2 lobes on each side and 1 helix. Thinking of having another lobe done but will do both sides for that.

speak2me · 11/03/2022 18:00

Mid 30's, I have 1 in lobe on one ear, and 3 in lobe, and 1 in helix on the other side. Plus a nose piercing, which I took out at about 25 and put back in a few years ago!

JemimaMuddledUp · 11/03/2022 18:10

Early 40s, I had 3 in left lobe, 2 in right lobe, right helix and left nostril in my teens.

In my late 20s and 30s I just wore one in each lobe. But have now started wearing 2 in each lobe, so technically still symmetrical. Pretty sure helix and nostril have completely healed over now, but I could likely still wear 3rd in left lobe if I tried.

thenewbride · 11/03/2022 18:43

I'm mid 20s. I have 3 lobe and 1 mid up my ear top of my ear in 1 ear and my tragus in the opposite ear.
I use the middle hole in my lobe- others have healed but the others aren't matching !!! Iv never actually known any other piercings on the ears to match unless it's lobe ! X

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 11/03/2022 19:15

55
Had a 2+1 for many years ( since 18) then got a daith on the single stud side . It'll be a while till it heals , so at the moment I'm even .

Anjo2011 · 11/03/2022 19:18

4 in one ear and two in the other. Every earring is different. Have whatever you fancy. I prefer non matching.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 11/03/2022 19:44

I quite like ear piercing on a man , but only a single ear , a small gold hoop ( like David Essex Grin ) not keen on both with the huge blingey CZ square studs .

thedarkling · 11/03/2022 19:49

Buffy had three on one side and two on the other so that's good enough for me 😀

I think lobe piercings it's usually the same now but I think for other piercings it's weird to have the same. I have two on each lobe and a helix on my right ear and thinking of getting the tragus done but will get it on my right ear too. I think it's weird to try to match it!

evilharpy · 11/03/2022 20:30

Interesting thread! I have four in each lobe but tend to wear 4+2. I'm planning a helix and forward helix on the side I wear the 4 (but it's just occurred to me that that's the side I sleep on so I hope that doesn't cause problems).

I think people often get matching lobes but anything beyond that tends to be asymmetrical.

MoreRainbowsPlease · 12/03/2022 02:17

I'm 41 and have 2 holes in one ear and 1 in the other as when I was a teenager I liked the different numbers in each ear (although at one point I had 4 in one ear, but left the top 2 to heal up). I have spent the last 25 years with well meaning people telling me I have lost an earring from my right ear! They seem surprised when I say it is deliberately like that.

scrivette · 12/03/2022 02:42

Age 40 and have 1 in 1 ear and 5 in the other.

psuedocream3 · 12/03/2022 07:11

Curated earrings are on trend currently, I have three lobe peircings in each ear, one daith and one helix in one ear. I will be getting a conch piercing, and probably flat helix and forward helix in the other.
