Body shop White Musk has changed, alternatives please

Hi everyone, I have used the Body Shop White Musk perfume for many many years now(maybe 30) and it has recently been reformulated so it is vegan. It does not smell the same anymore because the "musk" smell was partly due to an ingredient called seedlac which is a sticky substance produced by some sort of insect. Body shop were satisfied that this was cruelty-free but because it did not meet vegan label requirements have stopped using it. It is now more of a floral smell and has completely changed. So I am rather pissed off that they didn't keep a non vegan version as well so that customers like myself had a choice. I have not got a problem with vegans or vegan products but this is not the same fragrance at all. Can anyone else recommend an alternative please? I have a lot of problems with most other perfumes causing me to have headaches, which is why I stuck with this one for many years. I am hoping this is the right place, as I think there is a perfume section on here ?

I'm sure a lot of other people will be in the same boat as you, White Musk is a classic, and even though I don't wear it anymore, I'm sad they've reformulated it. It was so popular when I was in school and college, along with Dewbury.
I've never smelt anything quite the same. Perfume Parlour do a dupe but I've just checked and it's out of stock. You could message them to ask if they are getting it back. Their dupes are normally very good.
I've had Jovan Black Musk before and remember that being nice and I think they might do a White Musk version on Amazon.

White musk is a classic fragrance for Arabian oils. Have a look on eBay. There are decent white musks at all price points.

I just thought I would bump this thread to see if anyone has found anything like the original Body Shop white musk? I’ve not got much money to try lots of different fragrances in the hope I find one unfortunately

Just stumbled on this thread while searching for reviews of White Musk - I was going to buy some but heard it had been reformulated.

For those still searching for an alternative that matches the WM oil we remember from our youth, Arabian Opulence do a pretty much exact version for about £4 from Amazon or their own website. Judging by the reviews of the 'new' BS version I've read I think I'll swerve it and stock up on that instead!

@SomeDizzyWhoreI804 thank you for that will check it out. I’m sure I’m not the only one who is gutted by the change with Bodyshop WM. They shouldn’t be calling it white musk imo should have renamed as it’s nothing like the original !

I emailed b s but not much satisfaction just told the white musk is now vegan! NOTHING like the non vegan 😡

These are 6ml bottles which are teeny tiny.

I totally agree, it is not the same. I use the white musk oil and have for years. It used to stay with me through the day and people would ask me what the scent was because it smelled so nice, now the scent is gone in a few hours and doesn’t smell the same at all. I’m really disappointed in the new version of the white musk oil and I would really appreciate them bringing back the original

I have the Blue Musk from the Body Shop and it is gorgeous! Only problem is it just doesn't last. I'm not sure if they do an ADP but would be interested.

I am remembering the Dewberry and peach from my schooldays now...they came in little plastic bottles and we would put a few drops onto our wrists and felt fabulous and exotic!

Juliette Has a Gun, Musc Invisible. It's not cheap though.

You only need a tiny bit and the bottle actually lasts for ages. The small bottles of TBS WM from the olden days were only about 10ml iirc and they lasted forever! Did you try it in the end?

Fresh & Pretty White Musk Body Spray (can be found on Amazon).

It’s Perfume Oil White Musk oil (mallofoils). Even the 1/2 ounce bottles look like those round 90s style Body Shop perfume oil bottles.

I am in the same situation as you! Headaches and all.. I used this for many years as well but agree why not a non vegan version. The original smell. Ridiculous

I have used al rehab from amazon and found it lovely but had to reapply a lot, it is cheap, I decided to treat myself to the real thing, I was confused by the vegan on the label, was not cheap but looked forward to it as I still have a little of the original left. I am to say the least disappointed, it is definitely not the same lovely perfume I remember will not buy vegan again

I found this discussion because the perfume I just bought smelled nothing like it used to and I was trying to see if it had changed, very disappointed

I like Alyssa Ashley - I just chucked out two empty bottles of the shower gel!! Not sure where I put the perfume!!

I have just recently bought some and I do not like the smell of it at all. I also have been using white musk for ever. So disappointing. I'm going to ring them. The roll on one smells exactly the same but not the WM L'EAU

FWIW the Body Shop in Australia is still selling white musk and it smells like the original. Maybe it will come back in the UK?

Hi I bought what I thought was the original White Musk, anyway I contacted the Body shop to complain it didn't smell like the original one, she said bring it back and we can change it. Well who knew there was a new kind of WM l'eau so I'm wondering if some of you have bought that as the bottles are very similiar and it is def easy to pick the new one up. I have been using WM since the 80s and it has def not changed x

@Karenjoywilliams there may be a difference in smell with Eau de Toilette and L’eau but the Body Shop have told me directly that the formula for White Musk has changed, they have stopped using an ingredient called Seedlac which is a substance made by an insect of some type, and this is what gave the “musk” smell. When this was first used by the Body Shop it was revolutionary as was seen as a cruelty free way of producing musk smell which previously had been obtained by using animal glands. Obviously though the insect excretions were not vegan friendly so they stopped using it. Basically this means it is a more floral perfume now without the bottom musk notes as before. They should have renamed it or made this known.
