Help! Have to wear heels again on Sat, Tried them this morning...

...and already my feet are in bits!!!

Throughout lockdown I have been wearing trainers as I've been working from home.

Knowing that I have to wear heels for an event I'm attending on Saturday, I decided to wear a pair this morning around the house. I got up at 7am and by 7:30 the balls of my feet are aching already.

I went out looking for suitable alternatives (i.e. low heels/kitten heels) at the weekend and was unsuccessful. I don't think getting stuff delivered at this point is an option (in case of delays with postage/customs/whatever) so I'd need an actual shop if I was to try something.

Failing that, do you have any suggestions/remedies that help when your feet are just killing you in heels???

Next do next day delivery. That should give you loads of time? Ditto ASOS.

What do they need to go with, do you want some ideas?

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 07/03/2022 07:38

Have to? ie job? voluntary sex slave? or choose to? ie party? wedding? Why are you being forced to wear something so uncomfortable that causes you pain??

LivingDeadGirlUK · 07/03/2022 07:38

How much standing at your event? I had similar last week, wore a strappy block heel with gel pads for the balls of my feet.

If they arent open toe shoes I think there is a trick where you tape 2 toes together, not tried it though!

jay55 · 07/03/2022 07:39

Can you get some of those gel inserts for the balls of your feet.

Scholl do them so should be in boots/Superdrug.

purplesequins · 07/03/2022 07:39

those gel cussions from the sholl's aisle?

ecco, gabor, hotter have comfortable formal shoes.

LovelyRita1 · 07/03/2022 07:40

Those gel pads work if you don't have to stand or walk too much. Bring a pair of flats in your bag?

Wonderwoman333 · 07/03/2022 07:40

Why do you have to wear them? Surely they are not mandatory?!

ShirleyPhallus · 07/03/2022 07:41

I find those gel things not much help tbh.

I think different shoes will have to be. Best for me are a platform at the front so it looks like you’re wearing heels but there isn’t much pressure between front and heel.

What’s the occasion?

TottersBlankly · 07/03/2022 07:44

You don’t have to wear high heels.

If your employer is insisting, refuse. Take them to court if they persist.

No one has the right to make you wear them.

A backbone might be useful here …

TottersBlankly · 07/03/2022 07:46

Also they are deeply out of fashion right now.

So why are you so keen to be uncomfortable and unfashionable?

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 07/03/2022 07:46

Also, you have plenty of time for next day delivery. Next, M&S, John Lewis. If your feet are no bigger than a 7, look at Esska, they usually have pretty, low heeled and block heeled shoes.

AuntieStella · 07/03/2022 07:52

What outfit do you need the shoes to go with? How formal is the occasion?

I hate buying shoes online with a passion, but as you've already looked locally and found nothing you like, then it's your only option really -unless you have a bigger citynwith more shops within reach and time to make a trip.

Do you have any friends with Amazon Prime? Plenty of time for deliveries from them, and good returns policy

LookItsMeAgain · 07/03/2022 08:50

@Wonderwoman333

I'll end up nutting myself on my evening dress because of the length of the dress if I don't wear heels.

I realise they are not mandatory but if you go to the effort of buying and wearing an evening dress, you would expect to wear heels of some height with them, right?

OP posts:
ShirleyPhallus · 07/03/2022 08:51

I think in that case you can go for a platform heel which will be really comfy and no one will actually see under the dress

ShirleyPhallus · 07/03/2022 08:52

Grin

I assumed that no one is literally making the OP wear heels!

I don't think Next do next day delivery in Ireland. I know they do in the UK which is why I mentioned I would need an actual shop to get something that would work as an alternative.

I have a feeling that I'll be the one bringing a big rucksack to be able to take the heels and have a spare pare of low/flat shoes ready. What a look! Instead of just being able to carry a small evening bag. That's what I was trying to avoid too.

I never mentioned it's a work event. It's not. I'm not planning on taking anyone to court.

I have a back bone. I use it quite regularly actually.

Perhaps you should find a moment to calm yourself and not jump to conclusions...it might be quite useful here.

Unfortunately, I don't know how much standing but even in the half hour I was making my breakfast and walking around downstairs this morning, it really made my feet ache.

Block heels are comfier than stiletto , zara have some reasonable ones at the mo .

EngAng · 07/03/2022 08:58

Shoes that actually fit well are the best answer unfortunately. Gel inserts etc never really do the job. Although prophalactic plasters work if there is rubbing. If they will be covered by your dress could you try some more comfy styles like wedges? Personally I am only comfortable in heels, but absolutely refuse to have feet which hurt.

TwigTheWonderKid · 07/03/2022 09:01

Sounds like it might be better to get your dress shortened so you can wear flats?

If not, in my experience M&S and Clarks do really comfy high heels.

LovelyRita1 · 07/03/2022 09:01

I don't think you can realistically wear the ones you've got if even trying them on indoors hurts. You'll look a bit silly if you cannot walk after the first half hour! Even my biggest stilettos (back back they weren't horribly unfashionable) were fine in the house. I used to wear them before i put on my lower heels because wearing anything compared to them felt like walking on air 🤣. Don't really wear heels now as I do find them a bit dated on me. Like I'm back in the nineties, borrowing my mum's shoes to trot around in.

I mean, maybe the gel pads, but since you might end up standing a lot, I'm not sure how much good they'll do. Is it an all day event? I don't think I'd risk retraining myself in heels for a whole day thing. I'd honestly wear flats, but if not then a block heel or even a wedge (no they don't look amazing, but if you have to be in heels then needs must)

Leftbutcameback · 07/03/2022 09:06

How high are they? If very high then shorter ones might help (block ones or platforms) but if they are only a couple of inches it seems unlikely

5128gap · 07/03/2022 09:06

@TottersBlankly

Also they are deeply out of fashion right now.

So why are you so keen to be uncomfortable and unfashionable?

Not in my major city they're not. Out on Saturday in my flats and felt very much in a minority. Other than pre twenties women who were in big boots or trainers, I hardly saw anyone not in heels. Not that it matters as comfort is important, but its not true that its more fashionable, certainly not in all parts of the country.
FolornLawn · 07/03/2022 09:13

What about Amazon, OP?
