Help! Have to wear heels again on Sat, Tried them this morning...

...and already my feet are in bits!!!

Throughout lockdown I have been wearing trainers as I've been working from home.

Knowing that I have to wear heels for an event I'm attending on Saturday, I decided to wear a pair this morning around the house. I got up at 7am and by 7:30 the balls of my feet are aching already.

I went out looking for suitable alternatives (i.e. low heels/kitten heels) at the weekend and was unsuccessful. I don't think getting stuff delivered at this point is an option (in case of delays with postage/customs/whatever) so I'd need an actual shop if I was to try something.

Failing that, do you have any suggestions/remedies that help when your feet are just killing you in heels???

@TottersBlankly

Also they are deeply out of fashion right now.

So why are you so keen to be uncomfortable and unfashionable?

My god this is a thread about heels, why is everyone so aggy about everything here Confused
Wiredforsound · 07/03/2022 09:17

Why on earth do we put ourselves through this? Imagine asking a man to stand around for 4 hours in crippling shoes just so his arse would look sexier for the ladies.

choppolata · 07/03/2022 09:57

No need for a rucksack OP, get a nice gift bag to hide your emergency shoes in. Events requiring evening dress usually have a cloakroom as well, so you can stash the bag in there until needed.

MrsSkylerWhite · 07/03/2022 09:59

A wedge or block heel?
I’d have the dress taken up and wear flats. Life’s too short for painful feet.

High heels are never out of fashion.
Wonderwoman333 · 07/03/2022 10:15

Wear a different outfit or shorten your dress.
High heels are dated and unfashionable.

Trunumber · 07/03/2022 10:29

How high do they need to be? Does ASOS deliver to you?

OvOvO · 07/03/2022 10:31

I quite like those Clarks ones linked above Blush

TristesseDurera · 07/03/2022 10:34

@5128gap I'm in London and if I see women out in heels I assume they're here on a hen weekend Grin

Samanabanana · 07/03/2022 10:37

Gel insoles?

thewreckofthehesperus · 07/03/2022 10:46

Clarks, M&S and Next are my go to when I need to factor comfort into my footwear. Even New Look usually have a good selection of mid height block heels.

I suppose it depends how rural you are if you still have time to shop but could be worth a look? What colour is your dress?

TheDoveFromAboveCooCoo · 07/03/2022 10:50

Get the dress shortened and embrace the flats.

Life is way too short to spend 4-5 hours in pain just because you feel it's the "cultural norm" to kill ourselves in heels

I'm not in London but a big city nonetheless. I was actually surprised as last year it was all white trainers, but there's definitely been a swing back to heels. I saw a few cowboy style ankle boots with chunky heels which looked more wearable.

TristesseDurera · 07/03/2022 11:03

I think there's a huge difference between London and other cities in the UK. People do walk a lot more here which no doubt affects choice of footwear.
I've never worn heels for this reason. Have loads of lovely shoes and boots though.

DouglasCrood · 07/03/2022 11:04

I don't think heels are out of fashion as a blanket rule. I do think the big stilettos, especially those of the red sole, are looking very dated even when they go with an outfit. To me anyway and personal taste yada yada

threecupsofteaminimum · 07/03/2022 11:08

M&S have always done really good comfy heels at reasonable prices.

ExConstance · 07/03/2022 11:50

Can you turn up the hem of the dress and wear flatter shoes?

BitOutOfPractice · 07/03/2022 11:55

@FolornLawn

Not hugely attractive, but if they're hidden by your dress: ]]
That has to be the understatement of the year! I actually gasped in horror at those! And with an evening dress?! I think I might have to stage an intervention Forlorn! Grin
NotMeNoNo · 07/03/2022 12:01

I find high shoes with a strap much more comfortable than slip ons.
This kind of thing. Plus all the gel pads etc. www.marksandspencer.com/wide-fit-stiletto-heel-court-shoes/p/clp60509399?color=BLACK#intid=prodColourId-60509399

Fairislefandango · 07/03/2022 12:12

Perhaps you should find a moment to calm yourself and not jump to conclusions...it might be quite useful here.

Pretty reasonable conclusion to jump to though. Your OP literally said that you 'have to' wear heels, which made it sound as if someone was making you. Whereas in fact it's now apparent that nobody is making you, you just want to wear them.

I just do not wear heels, whatever the occasion, but I can see your problem wrt the length of the dress. Any way you can turn the hem up?

pussycatunpickingcrossesagain · 07/03/2022 12:50

Get the dress hemmed up by 2" then you'll be comfortable and won't fall over and flash your arse. Grin

FolornLawn · 07/03/2022 13:45

Sorry @BitOutOfPractice, I should have put a trigger warning. Grin

JaneJeffer · 07/03/2022 13:49

@LookItsMeAgain Next do deliver next day in Ireland
