Help! Have to wear heels again on Sat, Tried them this morning...

...and already my feet are in bits!!!

Throughout lockdown I have been wearing trainers as I've been working from home.

Knowing that I have to wear heels for an event I'm attending on Saturday, I decided to wear a pair this morning around the house. I got up at 7am and by 7:30 the balls of my feet are aching already.

I went out looking for suitable alternatives (i.e. low heels/kitten heels) at the weekend and was unsuccessful. I don't think getting stuff delivered at this point is an option (in case of delays with postage/customs/whatever) so I'd need an actual shop if I was to try something.

Failing that, do you have any suggestions/remedies that help when your feet are just killing you in heels???

Op I wore heels for the first time in about 4 months on Friday. My feet are still aching now Grin I love them though, and I won’t be giving them up any time soon for fancy occasion. Strictly car to bar though, when there’s any amounts of walking to be done I go with something lower and more comfortable.

Fairislefandango · 07/03/2022 18:31

If they hurt it’s because they don’t fit properly.

They hurt because they put your foot at an unnatural angle and place a lot of pressure on the ball of your foot. I have never worn a pair of heels that didn't hurt, and I wore plenty of different ones when I was young.

Coffeepot72 · 07/03/2022 18:55

Definitely try block heels

Laiste · 07/03/2022 19:00

Out of interest i've just googled 'most comfortable high heels' and clicked on a site with The 10 Most Comfortable Heels UK'.

They're nearly all over £600 Shock Hmm

as you were.

eyeoresancerre · 07/03/2022 19:09

I've become a convert to Hobbs high heels. Around £100 but sooooo comfy. I can't bear high heels anymore but wore these happily for 6 hours and no foot pain. It was bliss. Worth a go?

EngAng · 07/03/2022 19:11

Glad you may have a solution OP. Clearly it doesn't take much to get the heel police out. What happened to having a choice what to wear? I like heels and I don't care if they are unfashionable and make some posters froth at the mouth.

ronjobbins · 07/03/2022 19:15

@Dontfuckingsaycheese

Have to? ie job? voluntary sex slave? or choose to? ie party? wedding? Why are you being forced to wear something so uncomfortable that causes you pain??
This Crikey wear something comfortable
ChiefWiggumsBoy · 07/03/2022 19:16

I was just thinking to myself that wearing 'proper' shoes for practically the first time in two years of living in slippers was the reason my heels were lacerated. And they weren't even heels!

If you can, I'd go for a large platform wedge type shoe.

Garman · 07/03/2022 19:30

Next in Ireland do next day delivery if they have the item in stock in Ireland, if it has to come from the UK it takes longer, and unfortunately after Brexit there's no way to know which it is until it doesn't show up next day!

Coffeepot72 · 07/03/2022 19:31

I totally get where the OP is coming from though, some dresses and occasions just need heels!

I have a pair very similar to these, they have got me through many formal occasions

SageRosemary · 07/03/2022 19:46

Flatforms, high enough?

My old flatmates used to fill up little bags with water and freeze them in the heels to stretch them out a bit so they didn't have to break them in. I've never done it but they swore by it.

IvorCutler · 07/03/2022 19:52

Op I’m in Ireland, I ordered some jeans from next today and they’re coming tomorrow!

CiderJolly · 07/03/2022 19:53

Causing yourself discomfort and the inability to walk properly for the sake of ‘fashion’ or whatever you want to call what you’re doing is really silly. And yeah I know, you didn’t ask, but it’s such a ridiculous, easily solved ‘dilemma’.

itsnotdeep · 07/03/2022 20:06

I had to wear heels to an evening event recently too, my feet just aren't used to them!

OP I always found the LK Bennett Florets the most comfortable high heels. Used to wear them all day at the office back in the day (2 years ago).

FadedRed · 07/03/2022 20:19

The most comfortable shoes I have ever worn are from Pavers. They do flats, low and high heels, and wedges. They are good quality and reasonable prices and, while not extensive, a decent amount of choice.

Goldengoosey · 07/03/2022 21:25

I feel for you. After wfh for almost 2 years and wearing slippers, trainers or just bare feet, I wore pointed flats into the office last week. I felt as if I had shoes on two sizes too small. So uncomfortable and they were flats. I’d get a platform strappy sandal to go with your dress. Enjoy your night x

LookItsMeAgain · 08/03/2022 08:35

Once again, thank you to everyone who has suggested ways that I could manage to wear heels.

I'm not sure many of you read that I'll be wearing an evening dress (as in a full length gown) and that the gown has a split to the knee/thigh and that whatever shoes I wear will be on show, based on some of the suggestions being made on the thread. I do appreciate the thought but very very few would be suitable to wear with an evening dress, in my opinion.

The shoes that someone posted from M&S that are the wide fit and strappy, would be something like what I think would work but unfortunately they are sold out in my size and they are not even showing up on the Irish site anymore for me to order.

I will persevere here. I will not let this defeat me!

Teddybearen · 08/03/2022 08:47

Hoping you get sorted op. I would be in exactly your situation if I was going to an event like that. Some dresses just look better with heels. I hardly wear heels now but I would with an evening gown. Some of the comments on here are ridiculous.

I went to a black tie do a few months ago, and hit a cheer when I pulled my Converse out of my bag at about midnight. The assembled masses were largely middle sfrd male engineers who were impressed with my ingenuity! I realise that this doesn’t help..,

Laiste · 08/03/2022 11:00

Good luck OP!

I've got a wedding to go to at the end of the year and i fear i'll be where you are!

I've always had slightly tender feet but i actually panicked a little bit at the end of last summer when i started to need to wear anything more than flip flops or nothing.

EVERYTHING hurt my feet! Even my old Clarks suede 'comfort sole' ankle boots which are years old and have done about a thousand walks to school and back. Previously i could have worn them round the house like slippers but when i put them on last Autumn even they were rubbing!

I thought i was going to have spend the winter in flip flops Shock

I bought myself a pair of very soft generic white trainers from M&S and wore them for a while. They rubbed a tiny bit but i coped. At that point i could wear my old knackered Clarks ones.

Then i ordered loads of ankle boots from Next and had a massive try on and kept a pair from Hobbs which were very soft. I still had to stretch with shoe stretchers across my toes a bit. Kept going with them and now they're 99% ok.

I have not tried any of my heeled courts or sandals yet. Although i'm dying for flip flop time again i feel i must keep my feet a bit toughened up and wear some heels through this summer or i'll be back to square one in Sept Hmm

I wore white trainers after the first set of dances at my own wedding. The difference there was that my wedding dress hid my shoes so it really didn't matter what I was wearing after the ceremony.

This isn't as easy as hiding trainers under my wedding dress though Grin

OP - pain killer before you go, get drunk while you are there. Those decrying ‘high heels’ as unfashionable - there are models on the catwalk in some kind of high heel at this very second, so this is a totally daft thing to say. Its like saying ‘skirts’ or ‘trousers’ are unfashionable or something equally vague.

Seriously? Women should take painkillers and get drunk just to tolerate agonising footwear? Men don't, Why the fuck should we?
