Don't look if you are of a nervous disposition. They're just wrong ... and so expensive, too.

Yeah all of these are worse

LaMarschallin · 03/03/2022 22:21

Not earrings, but I lived in South America for a while in the 1970s and saw several people wearing these brooches:

My mind had gone to someone’s gallstones as ear bobs, to be honest. Whilst the scarabs wouldn’t be my choice, I can imagine worse

Yup.

People trying to claim the earrings are fine are such attention seekers 😂 they're grim as

I mean, they’re grim but they’re not ‘nervous disposition’ needs a sensitivity filter grim
LaurieFairyCake · 03/03/2022 22:39

I've got a scarab ring, brooch and bracelet Grin - I've never worn them but they were really fashionable in Edwardian era

Left by my great grandmother

Burgerqueenbee · 03/03/2022 22:46

I saw these on etsy years back, I was disappointed to miss out on them to be honest, got a bit of a thing for weird (ugly) jewellery Grin

@WestendVBroadway those properly made me guffaw with laughter. Grin

TheMarzipanDildo · 03/03/2022 23:24

Yes not for me thank you very much.

Anonmousse · 03/03/2022 23:28

I'm a jeweller and we receive worn earrings to repair/alter or match to a new one. Loads of them have so much wax/dirt in them. that is super-gross!!

Time40 · 03/03/2022 23:52

@WestendVBroadway

Yes, those three pairs are bad. Really bad. But worse .... hmmm. Personally, I think we have a tie.

But a scarab, is not a stone. Surely it is saying that the scarabs are made from natural stone

Exactly - scarab is not a stone. So if they were natural stone, the seller wouldn't have said "scarab".

But worse than all our non-living earrings - live insect jewellery!! What?? That's horrible I'm going to have nightmares now. It reminds me of the film Cronos - a great film with a very disturbing piece of live insect sort-of jewellery.

@Time40, I have to admit that having looked at the link that @LaMarschallin provided, it does it indeed look like there are real beetles in the jewelry . My apologies to you. I still think my examples are worse though 😌

Lavender24 · 04/03/2022 10:20

Oh god. Well that was way more gross than I was expecting. The foot ones are also pretty grim.

JaneJeffer · 04/03/2022 12:49

Surely live insect jewellery wouldn't last long?

LaMarschallin · 04/03/2022 13:54

WestendVBroadway

The ones I saw irl were indeed live black beetles - cockroach-sized - with a jewel glued to their backs but not so ornately decorated as the ones in the link. The jewel was connected to a small gold safety pin by a gold chain. Whoever was wearing it fastened the pin to their top and the beetle crawled around on them.

Surely live insect jewellery wouldn't last long?

A friend of my mother had one and it lived in a small box with a small piece of something that looked a bit like cotton wool that it fed on, apparently. I saw her wearing it a couple of times a week or so apart, but don't know how long it lived altogether.

Holy moly they are shudder

DartmoorChef · 04/03/2022 15:38

I like antique jewellery and I think they are really fascinating and look good.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 05/03/2022 00:46

I didn't think rats' feet were as hairy ?
I don't think my guinea-pigs would've wanted their paws imortalised forever from my earlobes ........

Though seriously , the teeth ones are The Worst !

Greenmarmalade · 05/03/2022 01:02

Oh this is hideous!! I have some very old Egyptian scarab jewellery… made from turquoise and gold, not an actual scarab!! Too gross.

Nezuko · 05/03/2022 01:04

This thread made me chuckle out loud, thank you OP Grin the look of those earrings alone give me the heebie jeebies shudder

Loservilla · 05/03/2022 06:24

Can I interest anyone in some earrings made from dog penis bones? Or maybe a dead crow's claw necklace?

Sad There’s using found dead animals parts to make jewellery (which I don’t agree with) but then there’s the nagging possibility that these animals are farmed Sad

Westend are they squirrels' feet rather than rats ?

I haven't kept pet rats but I've seen some and marvelled at their little paws . The claws look too long and point-ey too .

Squirrels are classed as rodents too , but it's quite sad they look like red squirrel , but could be ancient ones .
(Still wouldn't wear them though )
