I mean in recent years, as she has grown older?
I wasn't particularly a fan of her younger style, not my thing really, and her recent choices wouldn't really work well on me personally - but what I DO notice and admire about her is how comfortable she looks in herself.

Does anyone know what I mean?
Her recent approach to dressing is obviously leaning towards the oversized, slouchy, etc and yet it is quite atypical and particular to herself, which comes over as really genuine and interesting. I think she really stands out in this sense.
I love that she hasn't tried to reappropriate the stereotypical 60's look that she was famous for and just does her own thing. She is neither super on trend nor dated.

Pic for one example!

Well, her face looks nice, the trousers are so oversized they are falling down and would not be comfortable to wear.

Floisme · 01/03/2022 12:03

Yes I've been a fan ever since she did a collection for La Redoute back in the days when it was still a catalogue.

I admire her attitude to ageing and also the way she must tweak what she wears unobtrusively over the years so that she always looks herself but also looks current. I've never been able to manage that signature style thing myself but she's nailed it I think.

@DeadWeightLifted

I do like this at all. The trousers are so unflattering, and everything looks like she stole it from the Withnail and I set.
Weird! I am a huge Withnail and I fan and adore that slouchy, artist-on-a bender look Grin. I can't see this silhouette in Withnail though, that's more wool, tweed, thespian stuff really. Her trousers are very 90's to me, i love the look but don't suit them myself.

I just admire her sense of self really, how she seems to bloody comfy in her skin. I could be wrong though, who knows!

She looks amazing. I wish I could pull off something like that.

I saw her performing years ago and she looked just as gorgeous then - androgenous and casual, but barefoot.

She doesn't seem to age!

Same!

WhoppingBigBackside · 01/03/2022 12:32

10/10 apart from the trousers. Trousers 0/10

You know, I've been thinking about this - your last paragraph - myself. As i get older i've found that how we perceive ourselves has a lot to do with it, and I think this is something that grows with us (as we age) rather than something we 'lose'. (I do believe it is a myth that we lose our style as we get older, In fact i would say that we are better placed to find it!)

It's sort of like being kind to yourself in a way (for want of a better expression), allowing yourself the luxury of choice whilst also giving in to what you love and are drawn to, having learned what suits you (or alternatively thinking sod that, I don't care a hoot if it suits me!) I think she definitely has this! Sort of not letting outside forces or rules define you, sort of thing.

Perhaps a lot of people 'search' for style instead of intuitively giving in to what pleases them the most. I used to have so many odd rules (must emphasise small waist, don't want to look tired, worry about looking dated, too dressed up, etc etc). And it's all restrictive bollox really. I wonder if those who seem to have nailed it have removed those obstacles and simply trust themselves more.

Interesting stuff.

I think she looks comfortable, happy and beautiful!

irregularegular · 01/03/2022 12:46

She's 75!!!

sarahtalkstoomuch · 01/03/2022 12:51

She’s so beautiful. I love what she’s wearing, bar the trousers but possible I’m just not cool enough

DameHelena · 01/03/2022 13:17

Most people would look like a bag lady in that outfit but she always somehow looks chic.
More power to her.

I'd think it was an off-day.

ChaToilLeam · 01/03/2022 13:21

I’m not mad on the trousers but the rest looks great. She looks happy and comfortable.

SirVixofVixHall · 01/03/2022 13:31

75 !!! She looks 50 there, tops.
She has a lovely face, very nice hair, and looks as though she is still flexible and agile. So she is going to look good whatever she wears. I like that outfit too though.

Floisme · 01/03/2022 13:34

I will concede the trousers - but I still love it that she's pushing it to see how far she can take them. I hope I'm still doing that if I make it to 75.

Really interesting posts op, and I agree with you about not being hidebound by style rules. I'm aware of them and I think they can be a useful tool but that's all they are for me.

Jansobieski · 01/03/2022 13:41

I like the first photo but this is the same outfit minus the lovely bright scarf. Close up it just doesn't look as good

She is tall, very thin and often buys mens clothes (I read in an interview years ago). She can carry anything off I reckon.

Earlydancing · 01/03/2022 13:45

Honestly, this is what the old guys wear to work at a local farm. Baggy old cords with a shapeless overall coat. I'd never thought of them as being stylish!

Floisme · 01/03/2022 13:47

You see I often think old guys look really stylish!

Earlydancing · 01/03/2022 13:54

All old guys? Or just pig farmers?
Branleuse · 01/03/2022 13:55

She looks fab. Id wear that

Moonstruck67 · 01/03/2022 13:59

Floisme I know exactly what you mean and I agree.

moita · 01/03/2022 14:08

I think she looks amazing. On me that outfit would look ridiculous but she is still such a beauty.

WhoppingBigBackside · 01/03/2022 14:13

Chanel made her name in making fashion out of working men's clothes
