What do you thinking this coat?

I'm looking for a classic coat but just can't settle on one

I want classic yet modern, nothing frumpy (whatever they actually means), something that doesn't make me feel all 'ooh look at me in my POSH coat' and plain. Want it to go with everything

As for me - I'm really fussy about my coats. I wear either a Bird+Wolf camo jacket, or a sweaty Betty hoodie. Sometimes a north face reign jacket

But they're all super casual

I suppose I want casual yet also smarter

Does this fit the bill?

Oh and I'd get it in black, if I was getting it

It's a lovely coat but still casual.
You already have lots of casual coats. Bite the bullet and buy your statement formal coat. It will last you for years.

CharlotteTuesday · 28/02/2022 22:47

Oh god but I don't even wear shoes! Only Vejas, New Balance and some boots.

If you don't have a requirement for smart clothes then there isn't much point in spending £££ on something super smart that you won't wear.

I like that jacket BTW.

Purplecatshopaholic · 28/02/2022 23:23

Lovely jacket, really like it

EmmaH2022 · 28/02/2022 23:29

I think it fits the bill perfectly
Really like it too.

Now I have coat envy!

I recently ebayed my posh coat. Reality for me is I have no use for it. I think the coat you've linked is good for smart and every day.

LondonQueen · 28/02/2022 23:38

I have a very similar coat that I wear on nights out, It's lovely and I always get asked where it's from.

CharlotteTuesday · 28/02/2022 23:42

Hmm maybe I'll go for it then.

Much as I'd love the statement coat, I'm the Queen of loungewear - which I try and smarten up by buying higher end pieces. However the effect is probably the same

I think I'll purchase and see what I think when it arrives

I really like it!

I'd say so - it's a lot smarter than the other jackets you mention (camo, hoody and rain). And 'go with everything' - if you look at the different colours they're with a mix of other trousers/skirt/shoes

CharlotteTuesday · 28/02/2022 23:59

Well I've ordered it so will see what it's like when paired with yoga pants and trainers!

I think it’s an awkward length, it doesn’t really do the job of a coat. But it’s really nice.

CharlotteTuesday · 01/03/2022 00:19

I'm short if that matters?!

I knew you'd say that I often find coats are too long!
Aria999 · 01/03/2022 04:06

It's really nice. But I'm not sure I would wear it with yoga pants and trainers.

I mostly wear something a bit like this with my yoga pants and trainers. athleta.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=350851

I have a really nice Italian leather jacket for classier occasions (I suspect leather jackets are so... last century but 🤷‍♀️)

crispsarny · 01/03/2022 04:59

I’d go with a trench coat, can be worn with everything from smart to casual, look good with trainers etc.

Monty27 · 01/03/2022 05:08

No. It's not casual enough and you can't throw it in the washing machine plus it'll get fluffy, and it's the wrong look altogether. And the price 😮

labyrinthlaziness · 01/03/2022 05:09

I think it is a very good option.

RampantIvy · 01/03/2022 06:43

Not getting the MN love for trench coats TBH. They aren't very warm.

Amelion · 01/03/2022 06:47

I don’t love it. It’s a bit too structured to go with more casual clothes and too work-wear style - it’s a little boring and conservative.

What are you looking to wear it with? I wear classic wool coats to work but also casual with jeans and trainers, but they’re oversized/ovoid sort of shape. I’d go for an oversized or cocoon shape as it lends itself better to being more relaxed yet smart and I think would look more modern. This one looks a little dated to me.

CharlotteTuesday · 01/03/2022 07:44

I have a Ralph Lauren padded jacket which I wear from time to time. Wouldn't wear a trench coat ever as I'd feel really silly in one. No idea why!

Cocoon or oversized is out. I'm a good size 12-14 - actually let's call that a 14 - and anything oversized makes me look enormous

If you're short a trench (and quite a few other styles) would definitely need to be a petite size, and 'oversized' usually looks daft, like a kid dressing up.Grin
hihellohihello · 01/03/2022 08:46

If you still really hanker after a formal coat why not look at pre-loved sites / shops? That way you don't invest as much but you still have a coat which you can wear to more formal events.

ItsRainingTacos · 01/03/2022 09:01

The length makes it awkward to wear with dresses in my opinion. Most occasions where you want to dress more formally you'll probably wear dresses/skirts. If you went for something knee length or below it will look smarter, timeless and will look good with trousers, dresses, even jogging bottoms and trainers. A belted wool wrap coat or a looser straight cut longline wool coat will serve you well.

CharlotteTuesday · 01/03/2022 09:25

Don't have to consider dresses thankfully. Wouldn't wear one

I always just wear ..

Yoga pants
Wide leg pants
Sweaty Betty black leggings
Joggers. Loads of these. Usually slim fit from Hush or whistles
Plain black or white or grey tops
Sweatshirts
Vejas or uggs or new balance or grenson boots

So very casual indeed really. But I just feel a bit scruffy sometimes as my coats are something I always feel weird in
