I’m 44, and in the past year all my shoes give me sore feet. Not blisters/rubbing kind of soreness, just a general pain and ache in my bones type pain.
Could be because I’m getting old and I’m fat… but the only shoes that don’t hurt me at the moment are my Birkenstocks!

I am 41 and have lupus so my joints / feet are always painful and to be honest I’ve just gone back to wearing trainers all the time. I used to wear boots and smarter shoes but they just hurt my feet and are so heavy. I really like my New Balance trainers at the moment but the most comfortable trainers I’ve ever had have been Reebok classics, I’m just not overly fond of how they look.

These are amazing! They are real "walk all day and not feel it" shoes. I've got two pairs in two different designs. They're not sold by the shop any more, but new pairs are always coming up on Ebay:

(That's the Ebay item number)

RishiRich · 28/02/2022 13:21

Toms shoes with marshmallow soles are extremely comfortable.

gingerhills · 28/02/2022 13:27

Everything Skechers ever made. From trainers to gorgeous oxblood leather ankle boots that get complimented all the time and no one knows they are uncool Skechers. Skechers really are like wandering around with feet wrapped in duvets all day long.

jeaux90 · 28/02/2022 13:50

I'm 50 and live in my Carvela trainers (I have 3 pairs of the same in different colours) but also my Uggs with the slight heel built in.

Birkenstock's in the summer but realised they sell boots too which I'm curious about.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 28/02/2022 13:53

Blundstone boots in the winter, and my equivalent of Birkies in the summer

nearlyspringyay · 28/02/2022 14:16

DMs, Nike air max and flip flops as soon as it's warm enough.

RelentlessForwardProgress · 28/02/2022 17:01

OK I hesitate to suggest this in style and beauty but ...

Recovery shoes (made for runners after looong runs) are awesome.

Try Hoka One One Recovery Shoes or
Oofos Recovery Shoes

Sometimes after a 50 mile race I literally can't manage to stand barefoot my feet are so knackered but can walk around in these no trouble.

RampantIvy · 28/02/2022 17:07

I'm not sure that buying shoes off eBay is the best way to buy shoes if you have awkward feet TBH.

I find that I need to try on about 20 pairs of shoes before I find any that are comfortable so I recommend going to actual shops to try them on.

Skechers are a good call so are M and S. Also, if anywhere near you has a Pavers concession they are good for comfortable shoes. I go to Boundary Mills as they have a huge selection of Pavers shoes.

bigbluebus · 28/02/2022 17:08

I've been wearing my Moshulu chukka boots through the winter. They are so comfortable and I can walk miles in them.

nordica · 28/02/2022 17:13

I recommend reading about barefoot shoes. anyasreviews.com/benefits-barefoot-minimalist-shoes/

I've worn them exclusively for about 5-6 years now and never suffer from foot pain even after a long day on my feet. I can't imagine going back to "normal" shoes again, everything about stiff, thick soles and narrow toebox shapes feels wrong now.

Duopingu · 28/02/2022 17:14

My karrimoor "mount mid" walking boots (permanently on discount at 39 quid from Sports Direct)- didnt need any breaking in, straight onto the fells and not one blister) or my son's size nine trainers. I am a six. Seriously, just get some cheap supermarket trainers a couple of sizes larger than you usually would and it's like walking on air. I honestly think a lot of women wear shoes that are too damn small.

RampantIvy · 28/02/2022 17:19

Or shoes that don't fit properly because they buy them online.

BaileysBreakfast · 28/02/2022 17:29

Another vote for barefoot shoes. I rarely wear anything else

coodawoodashooda · 28/02/2022 17:34

Pavers. I bloody love them. And i think they are reaaonably stylish.

SilverHairedCat · 28/02/2022 17:36

I'm living between two pairs of Vivobarefoot shoes. One pink, one black, same design. Not a single bruise, blister or mark. I've WFH for two years and did 4 days standing at a trade fair last week, and my feet barely ached. Love them.

I've got some Birkenstock Chelsea boots, they are very comfortable on my quite wide feet.
Classicblunder · 28/02/2022 17:45

All birds!

Haleliwia · 28/02/2022 18:29

Vivo Barefoots...I wear these probably 90% of the time, and have done for several years now. (The exception is the odd outing in ballerina pump FitFlops or my ancient Uggs, Birkenstocks in the summer when I want sandals, and uniform boots for one of my jobs.) One thing to bear in mind if you do transition to barefoot shoes is that you suddenly realise how much work your feet haven't been doing previously...it's best done slowly. My husband did a long walk the first time he wore barefoot shoes and ended up with extremely tight calves for a week as a result.

riverpebbles · 28/02/2022 18:30

I went to a posiatrist when I noticed foot pain and I'm so so glad I did. Orthotic insoles mean I have much less pain.

riverpebbles · 28/02/2022 18:31

Podiatrist!

Quite interested in the all birds - I think they have removeable insoles so I can put my orthotics in?

samsalmon · 28/02/2022 18:33

Kennel & Schmenger, I never wear heels but bought some low heeled ankle boots for a special occasion, honestly the most comfortable shoes ever. Proper old school shoe making.

gogohm · 28/02/2022 18:34

I have brogues from M&S that are super comfy. I use them for work. I have Clarks heels (2.5inch) that I can walk around for hours in
