I’m 44, and in the past year all my shoes give me sore feet. Not blisters/rubbing kind of soreness, just a general pain and ache in my bones type pain.
Could be because I’m getting old and I’m fat… but the only shoes that don’t hurt me at the moment are my Birkenstocks!

Hotters (and I’m not apologising for suggesting them!) or Pavers.
I have very painful feet (arthritis and injuries), narrow fitting with high arches, very blister-prone but I have never had a single problem with these makes 😊

LivingDeadGirlUK · 01/03/2022 07:28

Clarks and Sketchers as PP said.

I've also taken to putting memory foam insoles in less comfy shoes.

FinallyHere · 01/03/2022 07:29

Another vote for transitioning carefully to zero drop, wide toes box minimalist shoes

I have bunions and flat arches so I have to wear comfy shoes. I was pleasantly surprised how comfortable Vans are. They don't look very supportive on your feet but they really are so comfortable.

evilharpy · 01/03/2022 08:20

Three pairs spring to mind:

  1. A pair of tan leather brogues from Hotter. I bought them in a charity shop (unused) thinking they looked like Clarks hamble oaks. They don't seem to sell them anymore and they look nothing like the rest of Hotter's offerings, but if they brought them back I'd buy them in black.
  1. A pair of Fit Flop suede ankle boots that look a bit like uggs with a buckle. They are the only pair of Fit Flops I've ever owned and I bought them as I could get them on easily after surgery, no laces/zips to have to bend down for. I walked miles and miles in them while I was recovering and they are amazing. They are absolutely not stylish in any way.
  1. Skechers. Sorry.

Also a shout out for my big chunky-soled Grenson boots which I assumed I'd have to break in but were perfect straight out of the box.

linerforlife · 01/03/2022 08:29

Fitflop Rally's! In white leather they even look quite stylish (I'm 35 so not ready for sketchers yet Grin)

ExConstance · 01/03/2022 08:50

Maybe myfeet are a bit less awkward than some but i do have fairly wide and bumpy feel that protest if my shoes are not right. I couldn't wear trainers all the time and tend to go for Ecco, Dune boots and Chie Mihara if I need heels or something really stylish. Hotter are good but I seldom find anything I'm happy to wear from a style point of view there. Moshulu are similar - if you can find something you like they are very good. I have some Moshulu heeled laceup shoes in a dark blue that I'm still wearing after 4 years .

@PAFMO

ECCO (last season's often on Zalando) are my go to. Last for years. The ones in the pic are the last ones I bought. As others have said, also Hotters, Pavers and Gabor, some M&S. Skechers trainers cured my plantar fascitis after spending a fortune on orthotics and other treatments didn't. Tried a pair on in Sports Direct and literally saw the light. Fitflop white leather sneakers in the summer. You'll get people (on here) pointing and laughing, and yes, some models are not particularly trendy, because thankfully, these are all reputable companies who cater for all ages, tastes etc.
Those are actually beautiful!
TaffyandTeenyTaffy · 01/03/2022 11:03

Clarks Unstructured or Air ranges are usually good. I also used to have a very comfy pair of reiker sandals (although the next pair I bought the leather was not as soft)

RampantIvy · 01/03/2022 11:09

I had forgotten about Rieker.
I have two pairs of Rieker sandals and an ancient pair of Rieker biker boots - all incredibly comfortable.

KalaniM · 01/03/2022 12:41

@FartNRoses

People will hate me if I say this but my standard Crocs are heaven on my feet. If I could, I would wear them all day, everyday.
Love crocs.! Trying to get the ones with blue sky and fluffy white clouds on at the moment can’t find my size. Also but besotted with the tie dye clogs!
PacificState · 01/03/2022 13:10

I second whoever said Blundstone boots - I have pretty wide feet (I think around G fitting) and have given up on most British shoe shops. Was amazed how comfy Blundstones were and unlike most wide foot options they're fashionable as well (though fully understand many won't care about that). Absolutely indestructible as well.

Joysutty · 01/03/2022 17:43

These days I buy HOTTER. Which my mother in law would always buy herself or ECCO shoes. Not seen Ecco on the high street. I got few pairs of Hotter shoes on half price when Debenhams was sadly finishing/closing down, and have now found them inside a few garden centres in nearby areas. Myself have got a swollen left ankle due to oesteo-arthritus and they always fit well and also a physical shop think called think "Shropedy" has some interesting makes in and does wider fittings.

CanYouHearMeGroundControl · 01/03/2022 18:57

All Fly London boots.

mylifestory · 01/03/2022 19:00

Anything by ASH.
You will never wear a different brand again.
Expensive at full price but great in sale like now.
buy a size smaller if ur in between, they are very big.
Trainers r the best, sandals also, boots, even bags.
Try 1, i dare u 😊
I just bought spider studs for @£50

NannaKaren · 01/03/2022 19:50

I think I should rename my username to NannaFitflop!
I have 2 new knees and have had two of my toes straightened and had terrible ankle/heel pain; I swear my Fitflops.
I wear Fitflop boots, trainers, loafers, beach sliders, party shoes, flipflops - they make footwear for any occassion - I have no pain in my feet now !

quirkychick · 01/03/2022 20:25

FinallyHere it was Katy Bowman's barefoot/foot pain book that got me on the barefoot wagon. It completely cured my plantar fasciitis, I still have a slight bunion, but no pain. Pain free, orthotic free feet are the best.

mylaptopismylapdog · 01/03/2022 21:31

My pink Ecco lace ups which I’ve had for several years very comfortable but no longer available in the same style / colour unfortunately.

PenOrPencil · 01/03/2022 21:41

It has to be ecco for me, the leather on ecco shoes is so very soft! And ASICS trainers, I barely wear anything else.

Clarityiskey · 01/03/2022 21:57

Funnily enough I vote for Ecco and Aasics trainers. Also Hotter are ok and Clark's unstructured range. Gabor sandals too.

valerianaofficiana · 01/03/2022 22:05

Lanvin ballerinas, socks, basically. Tod's, get the size right and you'll forget that you're wearing shoes.

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 01/03/2022 22:07

I came to say Birkenstocks but I see you are already a fan.

I like fit flops too so they might be worth a try.

For winter Ariat.

wellerhugs5 · 01/03/2022 22:16

Nike Presto. They are like slippers.

KateRose · 01/03/2022 22:16

Bought some Clark’s pewter lace ups with extra comfy soles - wearing them today with the London Tube strike and walked 10 miles without any prob. Will check out these other great recommendations above but don’t overlook Clark’s & Eco.

Ihaveoflate · 01/03/2022 22:24

Strive - British brand whose sister company supply orthotics to the NHS

strivefootwear.com/

I've just discovered the brand and I doubt I'll buy a different shoe brand ever again!
