I’m 44, and in the past year all my shoes give me sore feet. Not blisters/rubbing kind of soreness, just a general pain and ache in my bones type pain.
Could be because I’m getting old and I’m fat… but the only shoes that don’t hurt me at the moment are my Birkenstocks!

Skechers, but they are so ugly. Before the pandemic, I wore www.chaussures.fr/chaussures-basses-skechers-gleam-136404-bbk-black.html these ones to work on days when I was in foot agony, and they really, really helped.

I have orthotics too, but by themselves they don't make us much difference as when worn with very ugly Skechers.

Trainers are some of the worst shoes to wear unless you are actually exercising (not walking).

WellTidy · 28/02/2022 18:36

Sketchers Go Run (which j don’t wear for running, just for walking around) are just amazing for my poor feet - moderate to severe bunions, thin skin (so blisters very easily), awkward heels and ankles. I don’t have any other shoes (and I am massively selective) shoes that are as amazing as these. I can walk 8+ miles no problem at all in them.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 28/02/2022 18:37

Uxgo and Fair Comfort are the shoes my operated on and wide feet now live in - no pain, no blisters, no swellings

TottiePlantagenet · 28/02/2022 18:42

Camper shoes are the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn. DH also loves them and only ever wears this make now.

cdba88 · 28/02/2022 18:43

Clarke's unloops. Ugly but comfy

iwantmyownicecreamvan · 28/02/2022 18:45

Hotter.

I know I take a size 6 and I know the styles that fit me best, so I can buy them off Ebay if I see them. Have got dozens of pairs now. Blush

Coffeepot72 · 28/02/2022 18:52

Apologies in advance but Clark’s and Skechers are the comfiest I have ever tried

NorthernTights · 28/02/2022 19:07

If you like Birkenstocks wear Birkenstocks! They do loads of other shoes and boots, I’ve had the white leather trainers for about 5 years and wear them from spring to autumn and they’re still amazingly comfy. Their baseball boots are great too.

ThreeLocusts · 28/02/2022 19:56

Mephisto or Arche brands. Not cheap, but worth the money. I limp and have a bunion developing on the stronger foot, don't know what I'd do without these brands.

FartNRoses · 28/02/2022 20:28

People will hate me if I say this but my standard Crocs are heaven on my feet. If I could, I would wear them all day, everyday.

DuckonaBike · 28/02/2022 20:31

You can’t beat Ecco in opinion. I have two wonderful pairs of boots and some hiking sandals for the summer. I walk a lot but they still last ages as well as making my feet happy.

ScrambledSmegs · 28/02/2022 20:32

Hoka Speedgoat trail running shoes are the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn. I will happily wear them all day. I've even got to the stage that I think they're nice looking shoes - it's like the footwear version of Stockholm Syndrome.

I know they're strange looking but I don't care

downtonupton · 28/02/2022 20:34

I love Birkenstocks... have sandals, slippers, closed toe mules and now a pair of shoes

Have been looking at the boots too

Oblomov22 · 28/02/2022 20:38

Sketchers Air Fit.

handmademitlove · 28/02/2022 20:39

Hotter boots with orthotic insoles. I have arthritis in multiple joints..

PermanentTemporary · 28/02/2022 20:44

Hotter, because I have bunions and generally wide feet. If my feet were a bit narrower I would be able to wear Ecco too but I simply don't bother with anything but Hotter now. Whisper boots are what I wear every day at work, and everywhere outside work until it gets warm enough to wear their multistrap sandals which they do in several colourways.

quirkychick · 28/02/2022 20:47

Another vote for barefoot shoes, but you do need to train your feet into them. I had plantar fasciitis and orthotics and within two years could wear barefoot shoes. It's how our feet are supposed to work. Vivo Barefoots are great, their Revivo website are cheaper, reconditioned shoes, so sustainable too.

FoldedCard · 28/02/2022 20:50

Another vote for Allbirds - I have two pairs of these: tree breezers . They're like walking on air, and machine wash really well.

NotImpossible · 28/02/2022 21:03

Another vote for barefoot shoes, and taking time to adapt to them (I also wore Birkies for my first two summers after switching to barefoot brands but find them a bit restrictive now). My feet got stronger and wider as I adapted and like a PP, I find that 'normal' shoes feel far too narrow now - my feet need to move!

Vivobarefoot are a good starter brand, though I think a lot of people outgrow then as they are still on the narrow side for 'barefoot' shoes. I have two wide-ish pairs and still wear them a lot.

purplesequins · 28/02/2022 21:09

ecco, gabor for formal shoes.
birkenstock for sandals/slippers.
hiking boots/shoes for walks.

skechers, especially the memory foam ones hurt my feet.

JingsMahBucket · 28/02/2022 22:46

So glad you asked this @flipflopson5thavenue. I need to get three or four new sets of shoes and these are all good recommendations. Brooks are also good for sneakers and running.

Cheekyandfreaky · 01/03/2022 05:38

Those recommending barefoot shoes; are there any ‘office’ type/ more formal womens barefoot shoes that you know of please?

PAFMO · 01/03/2022 06:25

ECCO (last season's often on Zalando) are my go to. Last for years. The ones in the pic are the last ones I bought.
As others have said, also Hotters, Pavers and Gabor, some M&S. Skechers trainers cured my plantar fascitis after spending a fortune on orthotics and other treatments didn't. Tried a pair on in Sports Direct and literally saw the light. Fitflop white leather sneakers in the summer.
You'll get people (on here) pointing and laughing, and yes, some models are not particularly trendy, because thankfully, these are all reputable companies who cater for all ages, tastes etc.

Gabor and Vionics

GeneLovesJezebel · 01/03/2022 06:49

Get something really ugly from Clark’s, they’re the comfiest.
And I get ‘crunchy’ bones in my feet as part of peri menopause.
