Help me whiten my awful yellow teeth

MrsCornelius · 26/02/2022 08:23

Am feeling shit about myself and trying to deal with some of the surface issues at least - teeth, nails, skin, hair etc. Am on teeth atm 😬.
Can anyone advise best products for home dental whitening?
I’ve done lots of research and US Crest strips sound best, but can’t find answers to all my questions.
If I order Crest strips from US, will I be charged tax and duties and if so how much? I can’t afford £££. Is there any way to buy them in the EU? (Or UK)?
What about water flossers? Do they help whiten?
Do Sonic toothbrushes help? Or is there any toothbrush that’s really effective for whitening?
Thank you 🙏🏼

Just use the crest strips. They're fab. Will find the link. Hang on.......

My own experience may not be typical but for my teeth, no whitening toothpaste or home whitening kit bought over the counter worked. I don’t got a home whitening kit from my dentist (cost £80) with much stronger bleaching agent and this did work a bit for a few weeks; you have to keep repeating it. But I don’t use it any more because finally I had veneers put on my front teeth, for reasons not related to colour (one was chipped, another a bit misshapen). So now they are always nice and white. But the cost was not cheap. I think the whitening chemicals damage the teeth as well. Sorry I can’t suggest a cheap and effective solution OP.

Sorry should say I finally got a home whitening kit from dentist!

collieresponder88 · 26/02/2022 08:34

Crest strips are good you can buy from Uk easily online

gunnersgold · 26/02/2022 10:31

I had mine done at the dentist , it was £300 and the best money I've ever spent !

Me too

The guy shields are the most expensive bit and after you get them made you can order the gel each time which is much cheaper

Same. It is worth the investment.

I'm using Snow whitening gel with a cheap UV mouthpiece I got from Amazon and my teeth are slowly whitening up. So far about half a shade (after 2 weeks).
Snow do have good consumer reviews and they do strips and toothpaste as well as the gel.

Campervangirl · 26/02/2022 11:22

Same.
I've tried all sorts of home whitening products and nothing worked.
I bought a kit from the dentist, they made a mold of my teeth and 2 weeks later I picked it up from the dentist with the whitening past, put a drop of paste the size of a grain of rice on each tooth shape in the mold and wear it over night, did this for 7 nights and boy are my teeth white, not Hollywood white but definitely white, people have commented on how much better they look.
Now I just do a top up, when they start to look a little dull / yellowy, maybe once a fortnight.
I bought the kit before Xmas and
Igot 3 syringes of whitener and still have one left.
What I bought was Philips Zoom! Night white.
It cost £200 but I would highly recommend it, you can just buy top up whitener from the dentist once you have the mold but you can also buy it on line slightly cheaper

Campervangirl · 26/02/2022 11:24

To make it clear, the mold and the whitener was £200, buying the whitener on its own is about £45

SpinningTheSeedsOfLove · 26/02/2022 11:29

Do veneers make your teeth look bigger? I'm thinking about giving them a go but I don't want to end up looking like Rylan, lovely though I'm sure he is.

Dumblebum · 26/02/2022 11:31

Another vote for crest white strips. They aren’t sold in this country at the strong level Ie 14 percent hydroxide, it’s in the us. You can buy them on the us Amazon site, takes four days for Amazon to deliver.

gunnersgold · 26/02/2022 12:52

@SpinningTheSeedsOfLove they file down your original teeth so you can't give them a go . It's all or nothing!

SpinningTheSeedsOfLove · 26/02/2022 13:04

Thanks, @gunnersgold. I'll do a bit of googling!

gunnersgold · 26/02/2022 13:05

@SpinningTheSeedsOfLove you may mean composite bonding which goes over your original teeth . Much cheaper and not permanent

Bickles · 26/02/2022 13:11

My advice would be to firstly have a check up and then have a thorough scale and polish.
Buy a decent electric toothbrush (currently trialling the Oral B IO and love it!). Use twice daily and use floss/ tepe brush/ water pik at least once a day.
After that for the dentist to take impressions for well fitting bleaching trays and supply either 6% hydrogen peroxide (day white) or 10% carbamide peroxide (night time gel).
Use bleach daily along with a sensitive toothpaste until you are happy with the results. This may take a while and you may need to buy more bleach.

ballerinaqueenie · 26/02/2022 14:53

I personally find the whitening products from the dentist leave my teeth quite sore, as do the crest strips, is the anything else?!

mum2jakie · 26/02/2022 14:58

[quote Imabouttoexplode]I get them from here with zero issues.

@Imabouttoexplode there's a few different types of that link. Which ones did you use? Thanks

MrsCornelius · 26/02/2022 15:37

Thanks so much to all of you for the advice, really helpful. My dentist advised against veneers for me, I don’t really know why. And I’ve heard a few people say the dentist (home) treatment was really painful as caused continuing sensitivity, and I’m a total wuss, so think I prefer the Crest. I’ll check out the links posted, thank you so much @ImAboutToExplode
Has anyone tried a Sonicare toothbrush? Do they help keep teeth white after whitening?

Go to the dentist and get a retainer made. Then use the zoom gel that you put in the retainers. Wear retainers overnight. Transformed mine and very easy

Saffy321 · 26/02/2022 17:25

I've tried Crest Pro strips, Zoom laser at the dentist and the gel trays - Crest strips were best for me.

Imabouttoexplode · 26/02/2022 19:30

The more expensive ones at the top of the page. OH has had a few from them. All arrived quickly and have made a noticeable difference. I've also used crest strips but years ago and I bought them whilst in America.

YouSetTheTone · 26/02/2022 20:35

Would also love to know which of the Crest strips to use from the link kindly provided by @Imabouttoexplode
I’m too much of a wuss to do any of the dental treatments so the Crest ones sound the best bet for me! Thank you.

YouSetTheTone · 26/02/2022 20:36

Ps really sorry @Imabouttoexplode - read your post above mine AFTER I posted. Mustn’t MN with a glass of wine…
