I've never brought from this brand before, but I've seen a animal print shirt in the sale, it's still £55 down from £69 , the only thing is it's polyester, now i know I could buy from newlook a similar item for a under half the price, is it worth it.

It used to be great, but I find it to be very overpriced for a lot of polyester these days.
I bought a cardigan from there in the sale last Christmas and it looked incredibly shabby in no time. I couldn’t wear it out of the house now. Sad

KirstenBlest · 24/02/2022 17:14

Get the one from New Look

evilharpy · 24/02/2022 18:06

I agree it isn't what it used to be. I have stuff from Whistles that's years old and still looks like new, but it all just feels flimsier and less well put together these days.

viewsoftheshard · 24/02/2022 19:56

I used to shop there a lot but the recent collections are too polyester for me, especially at that price point.

indiesearcher · 24/02/2022 21:44

Used to LOVE it. Now it's a bit samey and cheaper fabrics.

Gonnagetgoing · 24/02/2022 23:05

Some of their stuff is nice eg their sparkle sweater. But the rest very hit and miss and if I do buy it’s in sales.

Rotherweird · 24/02/2022 23:08

I went in last week and thought it was all horrible, plastic-y and not particularly stylish.

BusterGonad · 25/02/2022 10:39

I've never bought from Whistles, but fabric aside, it might be cut beautifully and make you look amazing. It's not just about the fabric but the fit and finish? Try them both on and compare.

lindyloo57 · 25/02/2022 11:22

This the thing, I ordered the size 12, when it came it was too big, but I think the ten will fit OK so have ordered that size, it was a great length for me being a petite, which is hard to find, and I like the fact that it doesn't have a cuff so when pushing sleeve up there is no bulk, if you know what I mean, so here's hoping it will fit, sometimes the bust is a problem with shirts as I am DD and normally shirts doesn't fit me well.

Sizing is mad big, prices are just mad for what you actually get, but the clothes are often very stylish - lovely prints, good colours, generally quite chic.

Well if it fits you better than anything you'd get in New look and it makes you feel great I'd say it's worth the extra expense. Clothes that don't feel 'quite right' on are not worth whatever you paid for them, whether it's £20 or £60.

So true, BusterGonad

I buy whistles dresses on ebay. I love the cut and fit of their clothes.

I don't find that they size big - I wear a 12 if the dress is fitted around the waist or a 10 if it is unfitted.

itsnotdeep · 25/02/2022 13:04

I haven't bought anything from there for the last few years. It's all manmade nasty fabric for too much money.

it's on the big side I think.

Buy it if you love it, but otherwise stick to New Look I think.

Doanythingforlove · 25/02/2022 13:06

I ordered a pair of whistles black jeans and when they arrived they were faded and very ordinary. More like a Primark look and not worth £90.

PurpleDaisies · 25/02/2022 13:07

Nothing ever fits me in there. Looks lovely on the hanger but totally unflattering.

bluejelly · 25/02/2022 13:16

I like their style. Quality is decent - sizing slightly large.

DetailMouse · 25/02/2022 13:19

I've fallen for Whistles sale stuff a few times. I'd say it is nicer than New Look, but still over priced, even in the sale.

The whole polyester thing is really frustrating. Almost everything, regardless of the price.

Floisme · 25/02/2022 13:26

I used to save up for Whistles and buy in the sales. The fabrics were never the best but I made allowances for them because there was definitely something about the cut and the way the clothes hung on me that marked them apart from the rest of the high street. But they pushed it too far and I gave up on them when a jumper - which was a really nice shape - bobbled after one wash. (Should have taken it back but I hadn't bought it locally.) This happened around the same time that Jane Shepherdson left which I don't think was a coincidence.

thanktor · 25/02/2022 13:28

There are rubies in the dust in my experience

Vohgue · 25/02/2022 13:30

I have silk blend dresses and quality polyester, and other bits from years ago which I still love but these days I agree, very samey (look at M&S for similar styles) and sooooo badly cut. It used to be big for size, but flattering, now it seems all over the place

lindyloo57 · 25/02/2022 14:22

As some have said, it's the cut, it seems to be made for a petite, the length was great, even the sleeves length ended at my wrist, instead of half way over my hands, so no need to fold back the sleeves.

BusterGonad · 25/02/2022 15:57

Hopefully the smaller size fits you and makes you feel good. If it does, keep it and enjoy it. Polyester isn't all bad, it will wash well, not crease much and last for years. 😁

Gonnagetgoing · 25/02/2022 16:08

Agreed about rubies in the dust! They did seem to be better years ago and manmade fabrics too now but they’re on the better side and fit well and designs good.

I do recall about 7 years or so I got a gorgeous beige synthetic jumper and quality was appalling so went straight back.

In sales (shop in street in St Christopher’s place London has good sales discounts in basement a lot) you can get a bargain or on eBay.

MidnightMeltdown · 25/02/2022 16:11

Agree with others. It used to be good but now most things are made with nasty cheap fabrics and sold at premium prices.
