What jeans for apple shape?

I've always found it very difficult to get jeans that fit, even worse now with a bit of lockdown weight!
I'm about a size 14 waist, no hips, skinny shortish legs. I'm trying to lose weight so only want two pairs for now. One casual ish pair, (bootcut shape suits me but i'm unsure if they even sell those now)! One going out pair, skinnyish, to wear with boots or sandals when the weather gets better. Most i've seen are high waisted but i'm unsure about those, i'm pretty large up top and dont want to look squashed in the middle.
What type and/or brand I should go for? I think whichever ones I get need to be stretch to fit my strange shape properly.

Next do bootcut - I liked those when carrying a few extra pounds (weight go onto my belly not hips).

I like Levi 501s now - they work perfectly for a less hippy figure as they're a unisex jean. They're not skinny jeans but straight cut. I find them incredibly comfortable and practical. I got my first pair new (fairly expensive) but 4 subsequent pairs in different shades on Vinted and they're almost all I wear now. I have a 30 inch waist and only 38 inch hips - they don't work for pear and hourglass women with much bigger hip-waist ratios but they fit me perfectly.

Good luck!

Next slim and shape - I am very apple shaped abs I like these.

ChristinePerfect · 23/02/2022 07:20

I like Next slim leg, or Levi's 724 they are high rise though.
M&S Sienna also worth a try

AuntieStella · 23/02/2022 08:47

Legs aren't supposed to get wider at the bottom, so I think bootcut could make you look sturdy, but if you have willowy thighs and love the look, then keep hunting for them - there seem to be plenty available if you Google, and places like Damart never stopped selling them

My first choice wouid be the sort of narrowish tapered (called mom or relaxed fit?) jeans, and other choice would be straight leg

DrNo007 · 23/02/2022 08:53

I am almost the same shape as you and also size 14 but have longer legs. I find Brax Raphaela fit perfectly but if you order, do check length.

DrNo007 · 23/02/2022 08:54

Forgot to say they are fairly straight cut.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 23/02/2022 08:59

I find Next cut more for pear shaped, narrow waist and generous hips. They really don't work on my apple shape. I tend to buy jeans from somewhere with a more boyish shape so the hips to waist ratio works better for me. H&M work really well but I sometimes find mens jeans actually fit me better.

Following, size 16 apple here! I am short, and don't get on with anything other than high waist. I find jeans fit initially, but during the course of the day slide down as no hips or waist! So I'm forever pulling them back up! If anyone can advise how to overcome this, I would be very grateful!

Wear a belt Wink
IsolaPribby · 23/02/2022 09:09

@CeeceeBloomingdale I would be concerned it will add bulk in an area where this is not a good idea! But perhaps I should give it a go Hmm

CeeceeBloomingdale · 23/02/2022 09:20

I always look slimmer with a belt, particularly a chunky one as thin ones don't hold my jeans up in the afternoon slump. I don't tuck tops in though so don't think it looks more bulky but the lack of sag definitely makes me look more streamlined. The problem with us apples is we can usually take our jeans off without unfastening them so we definitely need something to hold them up.

IsolaPribby · 23/02/2022 09:24

@CeeceeBloomingdale I think I will add a belt to my shopping list. Any recommendations as to where does good ones?

CeeceeBloomingdale · 23/02/2022 09:32

My favourite is a 20 year old one that belonged to my husband, I think it was from Zara or Mango. Asos are good for belts, I like a simple wide one like this: www.asos.com/asos-design/asos-design-leather-wide-belt-in-black-with-antique-silver-buckle/prd/24148561?clr=black&colourWayId=60542853&SearchQuery=belt

IsolaPribby · 23/02/2022 10:55

@Chikasan wow those look just the ticket! Have ordered! Thank you 😊

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 23/02/2022 11:04

Uniqlo Ultra Stretch Leggings Trousers are great for an apple shape, but I've just had a look at their denim versions and they seem to have moved over to high waisted for all of them. Which is a shame.

BringMeTea · 23/02/2022 11:16

As little or no elastene as possible Stiff proper denim has holding in properties. Style wise wide or straight leg?

Nitgel · 23/02/2022 11:17

i like levi shaping slim jeans, they give a nice shape, what is your inside leg size?

Musmerian · 23/02/2022 11:21

I’m a size 14 Apple and find the M and S magic jeans very flattering and comfortable. They are high waisted but hold me in and are very slimming.

BlackCoffeeInAPoolOfSunshine · 23/02/2022 11:52

I agree with BringMeTea on avoiding elastic and stretch - you'd think its a good idea but it really isn't because stretchy material is exactly the thing that sags after a few hours. 501s seriously - real, thick denim like mens jeans (because they are). 97 million times better than stretchy crap women are fobbed off with.

PurpleSapphire · 24/02/2022 02:49

Thanks, going to look up all those suggestions. I'm so with you on the falling down thing, I always have to wear a belt otherwise they will literally fall down as I walk. Some jeans and leggings i'd ordered online came today, awful, all of them. I'd ordered leggings with a thick waistband, didn't help, and since when did ski pants get in again? They were advertised as leggings! I couldn't stand them the first time around, scratchy, vile things..they never did and never will look good on me. I hate clothes shopping, with a passion!

I find it difficult even with a belt - or used to, my body has changed but a belt was no use there was no hips or bum to keep it up!

Teenagehorrorbag · 01/03/2022 22:15

The only ones that fit me are Gap - they used to do a fantastic style called real straight which sadly they don't now - but almost all their jeans are perfect for people whose waist and hips are about the same size......Grin!

I'm straight up and down and have no hips but a biggish waist, and slim legs - so we sound similar. I am also short and large up top.

Problem with Gap now is all their shops have closed and their sizing is weird so it's hard to buy online - but you can buy several sizes and send them back for free.

Unfortunately they do a lot of skinny styles now which I hate, and a lot of cropped ones - but they do add/remove lines all the time.

I like a high rise (or mid rise at a push) otherwise they fall down due to me not going in at the waist. But I would never wear anything tucked in so it doesn't matter from that point of view.

I recently bought their sky high straight leg jeans (as they didn't have anything else suitable) despite the fact that reviews all said they were a bit tight around the waist - and they were, although still wearable. So worth reading the reviews.

pinkpudding82 · 04/03/2022 11:15

So please to read I’m not alone in this! I’m a 5’3 size 14 with average bust. Was told I was a pear/slim hourglass years ago (narrowest part under my boobs) but my stomach is now so big that I have to size up for comfort and am left yanking my trousers up constantly. I have ruined so many pairs from grabbing the fabric at the thighs to pull them up and worn holes through! I have big calves so my legs are the same thickness all the way, and a big bum! The stylist I saw years ago as a slim size 12 recommended belts to give the idea of a waist but I found them too uncomfortable round the tummy. Maybe I will take the advice here and try belts to keep the trousers up!

Men's jeans?
