Somebody mentioned this in another thread - it sounds intriguing.
Thinking of ordering “smell unseen”. I like citrusy, woody perfumes - currently using Jo Loves white rose and lemon leaves which I love!
How much of a risk?

Try a sample first!

I blind bought a penhaligons perfume and didn't like it, don't make my mistake!!

I believe they do a decent sample offer, and if not you could find samples on eBay.

It is gorgeous, but I would recommend buying one of the sample sets on ebay first to see what a range of their scents smell like on you

LazyMareofEastown · 21/02/2022 12:24

SIL was wearing this on Xmas day and I couldn't stop sniffing her - it's seriously divine 😍.

Very very intense and oud-y though - I can imagine it would be quite divisive. I think you'd definitely be better trying it first given the £££ involved.

SpiderVersed · 21/02/2022 12:28

Definitely test first - it's not for everyone. I really it but I usually choose from the men's range myself.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 21/02/2022 13:16

It's gorgeous but I certainly wouldn't spend even half that much on something I hadn't smelled first. Maybe order one of their sample sets.

Housewife2010 · 21/02/2022 15:39

I got a 10ml bottle from the Feel Unique sample service before Christmas. I was very disappointed with it and sold it on eBay.

LookdeepintotheParka · 21/02/2022 15:53

Maybe try the Perfume Parlour dupe first? I've bought a Penhaligons dupe from PP as I wasn't sure if I could justify the price. I loved the fragrance in the Penhaligons shop but after getting the dupe realised it was too intense for everyday wear. I'm so glad I didn't spend £210 on it!!

Classica · 21/02/2022 16:31

I'm all for splurging on something luxurious but with perfumes in this price range it seems a bit foolhardy not to sniff it first. Such a waste if you end up disliking it or even just being a bit meh about it.

whatsinaname2 · 21/02/2022 16:36

I like it but don't love it. It feels a bit too much like something my nan would have worn. Get one of their sample sets maybe? It's a lot to spend on a perfume you don't really enjoy.
Penhaligon's fragrances are all overpriced to my mind. None of them particularly wow me. I currently have three sitting on my bathroom shelf and they're all gathering dust.

LazyMareofEastown · 21/02/2022 16:37

I would steer clear of Perfume Parlour and similar.

Whilst Penhaligons is clearly silly money, there's a reason they charge those prices. Their perfumes are top quality. The cheap knock off companies just cannot provide even an iota of what makes high end fragrances so special. I bought a dupe of Hypnotic Poison recently after someone on here swore blind it was almost identical. It smelled like a Primark body spray. Am still bitter 🤣.

They're not all bad. I have a dupe and the real thing of a couple of perfumes and they're virtually identical Wearing a baccarat rouge dupe today and it's lovely
Defiantly41 · 21/02/2022 16:53

I treated myself to a bottle of Halfeti for my last birthday.

It's lovely, very oriental. I hate sweet smelling perfumes and most florals.
Although it's not like any of these, these are my other favourites to see if we are on the same page

Jo Malone English Oak and Hazelnut
Clinique Aromatics Elixir (applied very lightly, definitely one to spray in the air and walk through )
Chanel Cedrat
My Burberry Black
Clarins Eau Dynamisante
Jimmy Choo original only (the rest smell of furniture polish on me)
Jo Malone Orange Bitters

WhereAreWeNow · 21/02/2022 17:15

Definitely try it first. I adore it. But it's a very powerful oriental and it won't be everyone's cup of tea. They do samples by post if you can't get to a store.

bluepeacock · 21/02/2022 17:50

I've just ordered samples of Halfeti and Luna- the samples were free and it was £5.50 for delivery. Will report back!

SpiderVersed · 21/02/2022 18:20

`i feel the opposite - obviously try it first! The one bottle I chose smells as good 4 years in as when I first bought it, lasts for ages and so often gets commented on positively.

They have sales, so I waited until then to buy my chosen perfume.

Rainbowshit · 21/02/2022 18:23

It's very overpowering. Definitely get a sample first.

TiddleTaddleTat · 21/02/2022 18:24

Can somebody let me know what the Halfeti dupe on Perfume parlour is called please ?

Inspirationpending · 21/02/2022 18:26

Luna is my absolute favourite
Well worth the hefty price tag

Minnie747 · 21/02/2022 18:29

Love it!! Although I think has not as much staying power on me, which is wild as it’s strong when first sprayed. Still one of my most worn favourites. Also check out Cairo.

Gribbit987 · 21/02/2022 18:34

You can get a sample direct from Penhaligons. Either buy one of their mixed sample packs or choose 2 individually and just pay delivery (£5.50).

DedalusBloom · 21/02/2022 18:35

The PP dupe is called Rumkale. It's pretty good and lasts longer than the original on me. The initial blast is not great and a bit harsh but after half an hour ( on me) the dry down is the same as the Penhaligons. And as it's the dry down that everyone smells, it seems daft for me to spend the extra £200 on something that smells virtually identical after 20 minutes.

Don't forget that yes of course the big names spend money on getting a 'nose' in to create their scents and use slightly better quality oils but a huge chunk goes on advertising and packaging. You're simply not paying for that when you use a dupe. I give you any Molecule perfume as an example. ISO E Super is cheap as chips but Escentric Molecules charge 4 times as much for the 'original' even though there is literally one ingredient in the perfume.

Everyone's mileage varies of course, and some people are more sensitive than others to scents. But I would never dismiss dupes until you've tried them and compared to the original.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 21/02/2022 18:35

Order it from perfume parlour first. I was sure I'd like it but didn't.

Puppylucky · 21/02/2022 18:38

@TiddleTaddleTat it's number 1942 - called Rumkale

Gatekeeper · 21/02/2022 18:43

I love Halfiti...
Was walking past their shop in bath and they were pumping it in wafts outside. I floated in the shop sniffing like a Bisto Kid.

TiddleTaddleTat · 21/02/2022 18:49

@Puppylucky thank you !
