Somebody mentioned this in another thread - it sounds intriguing.
Thinking of ordering “smell unseen”. I like citrusy, woody perfumes - currently using Jo Loves white rose and lemon leaves which I love!
How much of a risk?

I thought I’d love it but I found it a dead ringer for my son’s lynx (black bottle, can’t remember name), still a nice smell but ruined the magic for me!

LunaTheCat · 22/02/2022 07:42

Thank you lovely people - I have maybe avoided an expensive mistake.I will try and get a sample.

Get a sample of the real thing though. I hate dupes & they never smell like the actual perfume.

I've had friends swear blind that you can't tell the difference but you can! You really can..

My mother was very liberally dousing herself with a Jenny Glow dupe of Jo Malone pomegranate noir over Christmas (despite having a dressing table full of bottles of the real thing) & I had to say it to her. It's hideous stuff that bears only a passing resemblance to the actual perfume

Same goes for the Aldi Jo Malone rip off. O bought a candle & a hand soap once. Never again.

If I have a perfume I'm interested in but not sure about I get samples. I buy them & I ask for them at beauty counters & I wear them a lot until I grow tired or realise I do actually love it.

Agree with recommendation to get a sample of the real thing (eBay?)
I got the dupe from PP and it’s nice but quite 1 dimensional. I’m starting to find that with their perfumes.

I came to search Mumsnet for a friend's referral code and couldn't find it(but found this thread). Ended up just ordering samples, however they send me a referral link (£20 off first purchase though you might need to spend over £100, it's not clear)

However I have to say, I did have a sample of Halfeti before @LunaTheCat did you ever try it in the end??? I am absolutely bewildered that it's their most popular scent(apparently) and that women would buy it!
To me it was not only 1000% male, it also smelled of a gentleman out of an Agatha Christie mystery boarding Oriental Express or something like that! Bygone era in the South of France and totally male, plus the smell was eternal on me. I could smell it after two showers and had to wash all my bedding and nightclothes after spraying a little before bed! I gave it to my DH to try and he found it too strong and formal to wear.

Comefromaway · 27/07/2022 21:21

My husband loves it and it does smell really nice on him but I wouldn’t buy it for myself.

Shakeitshakeitbaby · 27/07/2022 21:36

I ordered a sample, hated it. Far too overpowering for my taste.

LunaTheCat · 02/01/2023 11:03

Update… holidaying in UK so tried it and loved it! Completely different to what I usually wear.
the £199.00 price tag made me gasp!
I see it’s in Manchester Duty Free and I could pre order for £139 which sounds better but it’s so much cheaper I wondered if it was dodgy!

I love the smell of it and finally cracked and bought a bottle last year. Unfortunately it just doesn’t seem to last on my skin, but smells gorgeous on clothes. I wouldn’t buy it again.

NegroniLover · 02/01/2023 12:23

That's a great price in the airport OP I'd buy it!

Deathraystare · 04/01/2023 08:40

I bought a dupe of Hypnotic Poison recently after someone on here swore blind it was almost identical. It smelled like a Primark body spray. Am still bitter

I am not surprised that you are! The original is gorgeous! So,e people recommended a lot of dupes from mazon - A company called Milton I think? Hated everything I bought. Would not even use it as room spray!

The Aldi clove and pomegranate handwash is lovely! And I'm a bit of a perfume snob.

I've stopped buying from PP - all their dupes smell the same. I hate those heavily masculine incense styles they seem to specialise in. I imagine Halfeti to be another one of those.

I crave Rose Prick by Tom Ford but cannot afford it 😭😭

ThisOrTha · 04/01/2023 09:27

My friend bought me a Penhaligons purse spray bottle as a Christmas gift. What they don’t tell you is that if you buy the purse spray, you can refill it for free up to 6 times with any of their perfumes within 2 months of purchasing. So that’s 5ml x 6 (30ml) included in the £25 price of the purse spray. A really good way to try their perfumes. I’ve loved their ‘ Helen’ perfume most. Though at £215 I won’t be purchasing after my purse spray is finished!
