@Lovinglife45 I'm similar to @Sickoffamilydrama in that I have been buying clothes monthly for the past couple of years. For a good 10 years before that my money was going on the house or I was too busy with small children/a different shape and size/younger.I could do with a summer wardrobe as all my stuff is ancient or the wrong size then I'll feel sorted. If I stop buying things because of this thread that is.

Sooverthemill · 25/04/2022 09:02

@Lovinglife45 I buy most months and have done for around 18 months now but for the previous 22 years I only bought essential stuff for myself. I made a conscious decision to spend money on myself and to wear things I love for mental health reasons. This thread definitely helps. But you shouted to spend loads. When I was at uni I had a true capsule wardrobe of one pair of jeans, one dungarees, 2 jumpers, a shirt and 2 tee shirts! Plus one pair of kickers and a pair of boots. Summer sandals were jellies. I had a duffle coat. And that was genuinely that for those 4 years I think. Oh a pair of cargo trousers bought from Wallis in 1978 and worn for around 10 years

WestrayWife · 25/04/2022 09:56

Love today's cardi @Sooverthemill

I do tend to buy a couple of things per month, but, like the others, I'm doing it for me and my self esteem and to reflect an ever-changing body shape and lifestyle away from corporate office and towards WFH and mum life. Over the last 5 years I have been everything from 13st to 8st 7lbs. Currently sitting in the middle, between about 10st 7lb - 11st, and seriously need to get my act together so I can fit into my summer wardrobe but life stresses keep getting in the way. The two big Ps have been the main causes of fluctuation though - pregnancies and pandemic!

Today is cold again here.

WFH today. Michael Kors harem pants (v old), with Anthropologie boots, and a couple of tees - the long sleeved one underneath is an All Saints one, also old.

Hello all, first time of trying to upload photo using the new platform, so it will either work or it won't in which case I will swear roundly and go off in search of gin!

Chilly here today and WFH but having been in comfort zone of jeans and t-shirt over the weekend thought I would throw a dress on. Am now freezing so am bundled up in dress with the addition of indoors cardi (which doesn't go with anything), fluffy socks and slippers. Thank god I haven't got any meetings today.

Anyway, here goes:

Dress - Tu (Sainsburys) - ancient
Flats - Primark

@Purplecatshopaholic you look awesome! You always do, but today in particular.

And @WestrayWife I love your outfit today - your system clearly works because you always look beautifully stylish and put together.

@Lovinglife45 I'm the thread outlier as I am always buying things. However, I am lucky enough to live close to some amazing charity shops. I've developed quite a good eye.

What I wore to the physio today

Top - hush
Gilet - mulberry (both charity)
Leggings - Amazon
Trainers - ASICS

What I came back with as there are 2 great charity shops near her (sigh)

Dress - seasalt £1.99 and actual vintage silver apple pendant £1.99
Jumpsuit- I will not wear it like this! Just grabbed err one of DDs T-shirts from the washing pile - Zack £1
Grey top - mint velvet £1.99
Hooded jacket - vintage air walk for when I'm forced to go and watch DD at the skate park (she'll no doubt nick it) £1

@Shannith fab bargains as ever! I'm planning to have a look in your charity shops on Saturday 😁

Shannith · 25/04/2022 19:19

Ohh @NeedWineNow how exciting!

my tips are… look for ages - in all the books and crannies, up and down (on the floor and above your head)
spend ages just looking with soft eyes (this sounds mad but hopefully you know what I mean)
flip through looking at labels
don’t be restricted by your size - I’ve got all sizes from a 12 to and 8. - different brands are widely different and vintage is always smaller
look inside bags for the brand
feel the quality of the materials as you flip through

enjoy!

Nooks!

Sickoffamilydrama · 25/04/2022 19:48

Thanks @EnoBaby yes it is nice to have the disposable cash to spend on myself now @Lovinglife45 I do think a lot of fashion/brands a re missing a trick in that they often seem to target younger women but if you look on this thread most of us I would guess are between 40-70 with some in their 30s but usually it's only as you get a bit older you have more spare income.

Been meeting customers today
Blazer M&S
Dress Sainsbury's

Has anyone seen any decent shift/Pencil /business appropriate dresses I want some with ruched around the waist to flatter my stomach as well. I really don't want to pay The Fold/ Hobbs kind of prices I'm thinking more £40/50 I have loads of work events coming up and dresses are so easy to look smart in.

Greyhairwarmheart · 25/04/2022 20:11

Thanks @Sooverthemill and @Sickoffamilydrama . My skirts are nearly all from charity shops as are most of my clothes. Hope you enjoyed the birthday @Purplecatshopaholic . You looked great. Great new dress @Sickoffamilydrama . Love the Monki trousers @WestrayWife . Some fantastic bargains there @Shannith . Top mint velvet, culottes toast.

EllaPaella · 25/04/2022 21:16

Just popping in to say hello. It was my birthday this weekend so I have been super busy - trying to catch up with the thread but it keeps crashing! Super annoying!!

I really hate the way photos are displayed now. I can't maximise them and mainly I can just see everyone's tummy!

OublietteBravo · 26/04/2022 08:51

I seem to have drifted away from spring colours. And I’m really struggling to see everyone’s outfits properly as new MN seems to be all about teeny tiny pictures surrounded by a huge amount of white space.

Blouse: Boden
Trousers: Cos
Trainers: Jigsaw

NeedWineNow · 26/04/2022 08:57

@Shannith Great tips, thank you!

As an aside, what's the parking like in Oxted? We haven't been there in years, ever since we lived in Croydon (when we used to drop down on the train) and I'm pretty sure Morrisons wouldn't like us taking up a space while I trawl the high street for bargains Grin Any suggestions or recommendations would be gratefully received!

Shannith · 26/04/2022 09:09

Definitely do not park in Morrisons - they are brutal about giving tickets. You want the Ellice Road car park. Hospice of the Weald is right at the bottom of the hill - if you come out the bottom of the car park it will be right in front of you.

It’s next door to the Salvation Army (good designer/high end but near the changing rooms) has a £1 rail - sensible prices

st Catherine’s hospice and Barbarossa are great too. The o family is not bad at all. Cancer research and and Sue Ryder (right at the opposite end) massively overpriced - but does have a designer rail by the tills.

Just go to hospice on the Weald - it’s ruined all other charity shops for me
