I'm in love with the idea......should I step away from the dungarees in case I lood pregnant at 50?? Or can i rock them in my own unique way?

And if it's a yes....style ideas from you lovely people who know how to dress (unlike me...iniform for work and jeans every day for home)

@everybodystalking

love the reponses.....men are not a priority! I dress for me (and also try not to embarrass the teens too much too often).

Off to order some forest green dungarees........and break out of my blue jeans rut.

I have forest green cord dungarees from Lucy and Yak. And maple cord ones (wearing these today) And ones with cats wearing berets…and another 3 different pairs.

Fat and fast approaching 60.

Love my Yaks. Great quality, fun designs, super customer service. I’ve never had so many compliments as when I’m wearing them.

So go for it!

TrashyPanda · 18/02/2022 17:21

Footwear - I wear DM Chelsea boots with the cord ones, and got these loafers, which look incredible with them

In the summer, it’s gowalks or fitflops. In bright colours. I only wear shoes that are incredibly comfy.

Thoosa · 18/02/2022 18:25

I suspect it was written by the dungaree marketing board!

It certainly seemed to prompt some sales.

I wish there was a dungaree marketing board. I’d go and work for them. Grin

@Armadeus

Tbf I have a pair but rarely wear them now. They're a bit 2020 and seem to be what women in their 50's wear to look 'zany' along with the floral headband and whacky hair colours. And I say that as a 50 odd year old woman GrinWink
How can something be “a bit 2020” and therefore too old to wear? Most of us were still shut up in doors, WFH for at least half of 2021. Do you replace your wardrobe annually?!

@Reluctantadult

I got some blue cord ones the other day, I looove them but I'm struggling what to wear them with. Short or long sleeve tees is the obvious one but I'm too cold a person for just that at the mo. Any suggestions for something warmer over or, even better, under?
Thin merino jumper or bae layer . Warm and not bulky.

@WineGetsMeThroughIt

Personally I find them dreadful and particularly ugly. But I prefer more of a classy feminine style which I understand also isn't everyone's style. But if I saw someone wearing them, I'd probably secretly judge them and think to myself WTF 🤷🏼‍♀️ Unless they pulled them off in a particularly stylish way with appropriate accessories to tell me they actually made an effort with their outfit.

I don't know whether to just be grateful for the fact that I don't give a fuck about other peoples' opinions of my clothing choices, or to be more grateful that I'm not the kind of woman who actually thinks like this about other women. Fucks sake.

As for the "bit 2020" Hmm I well I have just changed into PJs but earlier I was wearing a shift dress bought from M and S in 1994, and a cardigan I inherited from my Grandmother so possibly made in the 60s? Cashmere and apart from a teeny hole under one sleeve, still in excellent condition. Oh and my DDs are also wearing my original 90s clothes (I keep everything) and one was out before in my ribbed skinny flares, a crop top and a velvet hat. They think it's great (and the quality is so much better than todays Primark/BooHoo polyester shit.

So "looking 2020" used as an insult has really made me laugh. I fucking love dungarees as well as all my other clothes. People judging other womens' clothing are depressing, have you passed that attitude on to your DDs? I'd like to think it would have died out by now.

LittlePearl · 18/02/2022 19:13

I have never and would never dress to 'look sexy for men.'

But it so happens that my OH is desperate for me to get some dungarees because he really likes them. And I'm late 50s.

FavouriteFortnight · 18/02/2022 19:26

My (male) postman complimented me on my bright Lucy & Yaks. I don’t know whether he thought they were sexy Grin

crosbystillsandmash · 18/02/2022 20:38

Wtf is a bit'2020'
Putting on fresh joggers and dry shampooing your hair to clap for the nhs I presume?

TrashyPanda · 18/02/2022 23:31

I prefer more of a classy feminine style

The image of Maggie Thatcher this conjures up just won’t go away.

JofraArchersFastestBall · 19/02/2022 14:09

My new dungarees arrived - don't bother to lock up your men GrinGrin

Thoosa · 19/02/2022 15:02

They’re lovely. Black is exactly the right colour to set them off.

Love them!!! 😍😍

Ejk1990 · 19/02/2022 20:15

This thread has shown me how horrific women are to eachother.

Way to make everyone who wears dungarees awful about themselves.

I have a belly and wear them. I wear what I want and I feel blooming good in them!

Thinkle · 20/02/2022 10:30

Here is my thread inspired purchase with ‘proof’ you can be sexy in dungas 🤣

Thank you OP this thread was the final nudge I needed to get this long coveted pair.

(Love them @JofraArchersFastestBall)

Very nice @Thinkle . They fit you really well and look great with the orange. Is that the Easton style?
MrsMigginsCat · 20/02/2022 14:28

I've been wanting a pair of dungarees for ages. I'm a short 14-16 and have just taken the plunge on a pair of Lewes dungarees from Fat Face with 20% off.

Thinkle · 20/02/2022 16:37

@JofraArchersFastestBall they are the atlas.

Kasiaaa · 17/10/2023 19:40

Run and Fly are better than Lucy and Yak IMHO, better styling, better fabric and around 48£ rather than 69£. No contest.
they have huge variety too, loads of plain colours if you can’t with the patterns!

Fleetress · 18/10/2023 06:47

@JofraArchersFastestBall - love your furry accessory!

Fooshufflewickjbannanapants · 18/10/2023 07:52

I prefer the cut of run and fly and their straps over Lucy and yak I also like
Jambats designs. I live in my run and fly's, a pair for every occasion!!

Princessfluffy · 18/10/2023 20:17

I like the Free People Ziggy ones that come in 20+ colour ways

Flat stomach not required.

I look great in mine! And so comfortable as no waistband. I prefer dungarees that are pure cotton with no stretch and I don't like the ripped ones either.

I roll them up at the bottom and wear with Teva sandals, trainers or lace up ankle boots.

I also like wide leg and flare versions.

Dungarees...dare I?
Princessfluffy · 18/10/2023 20:27

In the 1970s Barbara in the Good Life aka Felicity Kendal was probably THE most fancied woman in the UK. Always in dungarees. So clearly men do find dungarees pretty hot, whatever they may say 😆
