Size 16-18 apple
my gorgeous daughters look amazing (not apples!!)
I'm in love with the idea......should I step away from the dungarees in case I lood pregnant at 50?? Or can i rock them in my own unique way?

And if it's a yes....style ideas from you lovely people who know how to dress (unlike me...iniform for work and jeans every day for home)

i have a pair but i cannot get the footwear right for winter, so I only wear them in the summer

I am a 16 at least, but the dungarees are giant, medium blue denim, primark I wear them with stripey fitted t shirts, the gappy sides show where my waist goes in and the bib and front hides the potato middle, and I have converses on my feet.

KirstenBlest · 17/02/2022 14:00

I'm a size 8 and wear them and get lots of compliments.

The baggy ones are comfortable. Tighter ones less so when you sit down and bend over or similar

SexLiesAndStereotypes · 17/02/2022 14:02

"Sexy to men" fucking hell. I hope you aren't passing any attitudes like that on to any younger people Hmm

Yep, that post made me buy another pair which just arrived Blush Funnily (and ironically) enough I was showing them to DH as I needed the buttons adjusting, I didn't have anything on underneath as I had just got out of pyjamas and he seemed to find them very sexy Grin

KirstenBlest · 17/02/2022 14:03

@JofraArchersFastestBall

The description of not wanting to look sexy to men has made me immediately buy some more dungarees! I suspect these jazzy L&Y ones will be particularly unsexy 🤷‍♀️

I love dungarees, but sometimes find it difficult to find the right tops/shoes to go with them. Easiest with t shirts and sandals in summer.

Tops - plain and neutral with colourful dungarees, colourful or stripy with plain.

Shoes - DMs or hi-tops

Thoosa · 17/02/2022 14:04

Ive dusted off my ancient DMs. It’s the combo we wore in the 90s and still works. My grandad used to tell me I looked like a plumber. Suits me fine. Smile

Luredbyapomegranate · 17/02/2022 14:05

I think you need a flatish stomach is all

Unless you want to look like Diana pregnancy-wear c 1983

SexLiesAndStereotypes · 17/02/2022 14:08

Yy footwear can be tricky though. I usually have to roll the legs up (or hem them) as I'm really small which seems to make footwear easier, big DM style boots in Winter and any type of sandal in Summer. My new pair are a black cotton loose fit so I will wear them with a tight fitted top. I have tighter dungarees which I wear with loose tops, eg a broderie anglaise blouse. I am also very fond of a pussycat bow collar (now they definitely aren't sexy to DH as he thinks of Margaret Thatcher Wink but I like them)

KirstenBlest · 17/02/2022 14:16

I'd be quite happy to look like Princess Di c. 1983. - she wasn't pregnant then

Yes I always feel I should accessorise with some hammers and spanners if I wear a jumpsuit. I absolutely have to have belts with any jumpsuits or I look like General Zod from the Superman films

(I actually thought Terence Stamp was very sexy Wink but I don't want to look like him myself)

Thoosa · 17/02/2022 15:31

I love TS but I can’t remember Zod.

Will look for a clip.

Snog · 17/02/2022 15:38

I'm a huge fan, I'm a 14-16 apple in my 50s. I find plain colours easier to wear than prints.
I like to wear with a thin turtle neck sweater or polo neck in cold weather or a long sleeve tshirt or button up if it's not as cold.
I generally wear with fly boots and stripy knee socks.

I think they look great and I enjoy wearing them. If men don't like them I'm not fussed, I'm not trying to look "sexy".

KirstenBlest · 17/02/2022 15:57

@SexLiesAndStereotypes, yes you can

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 17/02/2022 20:54

Curse you all, I now fancy some dungarees.

But - are the tied straps annoying? They look like they might be.

Craftycorvid · 17/02/2022 23:15

I regularly bewilder men with my dress sense. Grin. And I love me a dunga’.

No, once they are tied that’s it, you slide them off your shoulders to get out of them
WineGetsMeThroughIt · 18/02/2022 15:04

Personally I find them dreadful and particularly ugly. But I prefer more of a classy feminine style which I understand also isn't everyone's style. But if I saw someone wearing them, I'd probably secretly judge them and think to myself WTF 🤷🏼‍♀️ Unless they pulled them off in a particularly stylish way with appropriate accessories to tell me they actually made an effort with their outfit.

crosbystillsandmash · 18/02/2022 15:11

Personally I think I look well sexy in mine, although the compliments I get tend to be 'aww so cute' Which obviously irritates me!!!

I'm very slim but had a hysterectomy when I was younger so dungarees are perfect for my 'middle'

I have baggy ones for lounging around in etc and more fitted 'smarter' ones for going out. Bloody love them all!

I look extremely feminine in mine! I always wear them with a skinny fit (quality) long sleeved top and my hair, nails etc are always immaculate.

How silly to immediately assume dungaree wearers lack class or style!

WineGetsMeThroughIt · 18/02/2022 15:20

@crosbystillsandmash I've not assumed all wearers lack style and class. But that is what their overall look conveys to me as 90% of women I've ever seen wear them look dawdy and mumsy, and in a bit of a style rut. Like they threw them on because they didn't care to put more effort into what they were wearing. The only time I've seen them look decent is on Instagram when an influencer has worn them and managed to pull off the look. Even then I'd never wear them because they're just not me.

As long as you have sufficient bladder control to get in and out of them quickly then go for it.

Bipbopbee · 18/02/2022 15:50

I have a few pairs of the Lucy and Yaks, have had many compliments on them. Including from random men. So would beg to differ that they are deemed “unflattering” and “unsexy” Grin
Not that I particularly care… I’m dressing for myself not to please “the menz” Hmm

Clarice99 · 18/02/2022 15:57

always strike me as a firm statement that the wearer is not interested in looking sexy to men.

The above made me feel so 🤮 I've just bought a pair of dungarees to ensure that I do not look sexy to men.

Who gives a shit what men think. It's 2022, not 1940 🙄

I suspect it was written by the dungaree marketing board!
Armadeus · 18/02/2022 17:11

Tbf I have a pair but rarely wear them now. They're a bit 2020 and seem to be what women in their 50's wear to look 'zany' along with the floral headband and whacky hair colours. And I say that as a 50 odd year old woman GrinWink
